quota: ignore deleted messages (?)
Hi!
I am currently in the process of preparing a migration of our old
Courier-based IMAP/POP server setup to a Dovecot-based one.
During this process I came across the following problem with the
difference Courier and Dovecot handle deleted messages and mail quota.

Setting for deleting old messages from Trash?
Hi.
Just switched to Dovecot from Courier last week and have been very
pleased so far. The conversion was extremely painless, and I only hit a
few small configuration issues before I was able to get the server up
and running. Since then, I've been quite pleased - Dovecot's been very
stable, and a good bit faster than courier as well. However, there's
one nice feature from

automaticly move expunded emails to trash Folder
Hi
I try to migrate from courier to Dovecot.
Is there a way to get the same behaviour of Courier-imap with dovecot, about
expunged emails ? I though about using the Lazy-Expunge plugin. The problem
with this plugin is the following: messages are moved and set to be deleted
in the Trash Folder. I would like they weren't set to be deleted.
Is there a way to mitigate the behaviour of this

auto move of purged mail to trash
I am moving a courier installation over to Dovecot and I am wondering if
there is a way to set Dovecot to automatically move purged items to
trash (under IMAP). Additionally, is there a way to automatically
delete old items from a Trash folder?

Move deleted to trash
Is there a way to have messages marked to be deleted move to the trash
folder automatically? I have moved from courier-imap (which dovecot
performs muck better) but the one feature I really need is move to trash.
Is there any plugins available for this?

dovecot 2.0rc2 Cannot delete a folder with Thunderbird (delete, not move to Trash)
With Thunderbird 3.1 I can now "delete" a folder which moves it to
Trash. But I cannot remove the folder in Trash.
The following is from the Thunderbird log file:
248[6814c00]: 8103800:imap.kzone.ch:A:SendData: 64 rename "test10"
"Trash/test10"
248[6814c00]: 8103800:imap.kzone.ch:A:CreateNewLineFromSocket: 64 OK
Rename completed.

Automatically deleting Trash a la Courier
Timo Sirainen writes:

Does the above mean one will be able to indicate multiple folders to expire?
That is great!
Any thoughts on having a per mailbox setting?
For ISPs , one may want to give users the option to enable/disable the
feature and perhaps give them a choice of dates.. ie Trash 7 days or 30
days. Spam 1 day or 7 days.

SEGV when user over filesystem quota and "Move to Trash"
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Hello,
I've configured Dovecot v1.0.0 with filesystem quota and to use hardlinks.
Latter I use intentionally to save disk space and to achieve that an user
can delete mails even if over quota and using the "Delete to Trash"
feature.
The following happens, when the directory file of .Trash/* fills up and
would need to be expanded,

Quota and Trash
Hi,
I finally got a grip on our mail guys to try out Dovecot after they
started migrating a ~15k user mailsystem to Maildir+NFS (Netapp)+Courier
and the performance was not as good as expected. So far the results are
impressive, although there are of course a few small issues to be
solved.
One is the current Quota handling, which they use with Courier IMAP and
(still) think it needs to be

Thinderbird+delete+move to Trash folder
hi All,
I have a problem, which makes me headache. I can't find out, what is the
problem.
I have a mail szerver, which works just fine as expected, TB move
messages to trash folder after I delete it, and they are moved.
I have an other server. If I delete a message, it doesn't move to the
Trash folder. As deleted_to_trash plugin is installed, if I only mark
messages as deleted, they

Trash expire plugin
Dovecot will soon have a plugin which allows running a nightly cronjob
to expunge mails from configured mailboxes which have been in there for
a configurable amount of time. For example the configuration could be:
plugin {
# Trash 7d, Spam 30d
expire = Trash 7 Spam 30
}
It also supports using Dovecot's lib-dict to keep track of the mailboxes
and their oldest mail's timestamp, so that

rewrite copy to trash->delete->expunge mail with move??
Hello Everyone:
????? When user got quota exceed and trying to delete mail. Most MUA's
default "move to trash folder" will proceed by copy mail to trash
folder,then by delete/expunge it(copy before expunge). Unfortunately
this will not success due to quota exceed. Is there any way to let
dovecot proceed it by IMAP MOVE instead of "copy to trash

ACLs on Top level mailboxes.
Hello,
I?m in the process of migrating a mail server to new hardware. At the same time, I?ve made the decision to switch from courier to dovecot (v2.2.13) and from what I have seen so far I?m pretty happy.
I have two questions for the list.
I?d like my users mailboxes (Maildir format) to look like this:
Inbox
UserCreatedSubFolder1
UserCreatedSubFolder2

auto expunge trash
Hello,
Can this be done?
configurable number of days?
Like to move from courier, but this is the only thing we really need to
convince us to change, it is no good telling users to periodically
delete trash, they never listen :)

Trash handling?
Hello, all.
I've recently switched over to Dovecot from a long stretch of using Courier
IMAP, and there's one thing I don't have working that I'd quite like. With
Courier I had a magic trash folder in which things I deleted would live for a
specified amount of time, after which they'd be deleted. I see how to get the
expiry behaviour I want, but not the magic saving-to-mailbox

We recently moved from courier to dovecot, and I'm seeing a handful
of errors that prevent people from retrieving email.
Below is a snippet of the log sequence I see when this happens:

trash plugin not doing it's job
I enabled the trash plugin yesterday, adding "trash" to mail_plugins,
and configuring the plugin setting "trash =
/etc/dovecot/dovecot-trash.conf.ext".
But I still see users with lots of files in INBOX.Trash getting
bounced because of quota exceeded:
