M3U is just a playlist file, and can actually specify different types of streams: MP3, AAC, OGG, for example. The Logitech Squeezebox Product Family plays these streams nicely, although you will need to create an account on the Logitech Squeezebox site to add custom/favorite streams which are not in their Directory.
