Optimizing POP3 performance?
Hello,
I recently migrated to Dovecot from Courier-IMAP and i'm very happy
with the IMAP Performance and Dovecot in general.
The server is running qmail-ldap and i'm still using the qmail pop3
daemon for the POP3 users.
Because i want to get rid of qmail completely (switching to exim) i
just tried to replace the qmail pop3 daemon with dovecot too.
Immediately after the migration the

nfs and pop3
Hi,
I'm working with dovecot 1.0.beta2 for pop3 only and have set
index=memory, so no indizes are created on the disk. pop3_uidl_format is
set to %f. The maildirs are located on an nfs-share.
So generally, this setup is very similar to what qmail-popup and
qmail-pop3d does. However, everytime I'm switching from qmail-pop3d to
dovecot, the system load increases from less than 2 to more

compilation and installation of dspam-plugin
hello johannes,
i just discovered your wonderful plugin for dovecot. it was pretty much
exactly what i was looking for, only that i didn't know that yet :)
"Instead of moving mail into special folders, the user has two actions
available: moving it out of the SPAM folder and moving it into the SPAM
folder. The dovecot plugin watches these actions [...] and tells dspam
that it made an

High I/O wait with Dovecot POP3
Hello,
In the past we've had 4 loadbalanced servers configured with courier
pop3 and dovecot handling respectively POP3 and IMAP connections. These
4 servers have a shared NFS storage on a Netapp FAS3220 controller with
SAS disks. This setup is handling 50 POP3 sessions per second without
any problems.
Now we're installing 6 new loadbalanced servers to do the same job on

Questions regarding Dovecot's POP3 implementation
Hi all
I'm considering moving over my POP3 service from qmail-pop3d to
Dovecot for the following reasons:
- Support for Maildir++ which I have yet to implement
- Already using Dovecot for IMAP, so makes sense i.t.o Maildir++
- Support for SQL based user authentication
My primary concerns are performance and security.
Before I go down that route of migrating away from qmail-pop3d, I'd

Is there a way to limit multiple POP3 connections?
Hi all,
Please correct me if I'm going about this the wrong way.
We currently have a 3 system Mail server set up - two machines are the load
balanced frontends running Dovecot and Postfix, and the third machine is
our NFS. Over the past 4 months or so, I've tweaked and optimized our mail
servers, and we receive roughly 3 million emails a day combined through
this setup.

Error using antispam plugin
Hi
When activating antispam plugin in imap protocol, when sending an
email, Evolution/Thunderbirdkeeps infinitely "Sending authentication
information", and Dovecor logs shows "dovecot: May 28 10:14:35 Error:
child 6910 (imap) killed with signal 11"; lots of empty folders in
/tmp are created with names like "antispam-mail-ZvyWeZ".

Mixed Courier POP3 and Dovecot IMAP environment
Hi,
Currently we support Courier POP and IMAP for all our users (users can
use IMAP as well as POP at the same time).
We are thinking about moving to Dovecot; but first moving away from
Courier IMAP to Dovecot IMAP (and maybe later also move to Dovecot POP).
This would create a mixed environment; after some research I have the
following questions.
To not break POP3 Courier and still be

making Dovecot match Courier POP3 UID's
Hi, guys.
I've read the information in the Wiki about making dovecot's UID's match
Courier's UID's in the POP3 server, so that a UIDL command on either
server will return the same UID's for the same group of messages.
However, what I've read doesn't match what I'm seeing in Courier.
Courier appears to keep the UID numbers for messages that it uses for

migration from IMAP/POP3 courier server to a remote dovecot server
Dear all
i'm planning a transparent migration from a courier server that provides
both IMAP and POP3 access to users to a remote dovecot server with both
IMAP and POP3 access.
I have to migrate about 2500 users for 250 GB of space.
I'm using dovecot 2.2.5.4 on debian6 squeeze.
To make a transparent migration i have to maintain old IMAP UIDs and POP3
UIDs, so i've read

Compilation problem - CentOS 4.2 - x86_64
Hi list,
Here it is: I have compiled with no problem courier-imap-4.0.4 on this
arch (x86_64). Now I want to update my install with 4.0.6. I want to do
this because the server is not yet in a production state, so if a major
flaw affects courier-imap in the future, I could react more quickly. And
indeed I'm encountering problems with the make process (Since I initialy

Logwatch
Having FC3 systems and utilizing Dovecot, I have come to rely on some of
the information I get from the daily logwatch run.
Logwatch, by default, doesn't properly recognize dovecot's information
in the messages file, but it is easy to tweak. The patch below will
give you some statistics regarding POP3 and IMAP usage.
I believe I grabbed all of the differences in the unified diff

Some POP3 questions
Hi everyone
Been spending the whole day on the wiki and in the list archives on using
dovecot for POP3 mail. I'd like to present my findings and ask for some
feedback.
Our current software setup:
* Courier-IMAP running POP3/IMAP
* Postfix MTA
* MySQL backend for user and login info
As for the system layout, it looks like this:

I tried the http://www.dovecot.org/tools/courier-dovecot-migrate.pl
script but I still have the re-downloading event.

[PATCH] Pop3 order in courier migration script
Hi,
I found a problem in the courier conversion script
(courier-dovecot-migrate.pl). In some cases, it does not correctly
preserve the order of POP3 UIDLs.
Consider the following case, when courierpop3dsizelist contains:

Benchmarking: Dovecot vs Courier. Courier wins as POP3 server
Hi All,
I have compared Dovecot performance to Courier and it appears that as a POP3 server Dovecot is slower in 2 times but as an IMAP server it is faster in 1.5 times. The same node (16CPUs), testing time is 30 min, please see results and dovecot configs attached.
Benchmark software is MStone used by Sendmail Inc so is is quite reliable.
I do not see anything else to tweak in Dovecot to
