IMAP vs system username logging with checkpassword auth
Hi After upgrading to dovecot 1.0.7 I noticed that the actual username is no longer logged, but rather the system user (in my case 'vmail') under which my virtual set-up runs. Now I'm unable to see which virtual users log in. Any pointers on how to configure dovecot to log the actual username given during the IMAP dialogue would be appreciated. My dovecot.conf includes the following:

Dovecot under daemontools
Hi there I'm having difficulties in getting dovecot to run under daemontools. Also, from a sysadmin perspective, so far, I find dovecot's config rather complex - I suppose that's what happens when one attempts to appease all authentication methods... anyway, I digress. System details, to set the scene: OS: Slackware Linux Linux Kernel: 2.4.29 GCC: 3.2.2 Dovecot version: 1.0.rc6

dovecot and imap session forwarding
Hi, I was trying to install a qmail-ldap cluster. I have successfully setup dovecot to authenticate against ldap directory. But what I need is to enable imap session forwarding for qmail-ldap. For example when a user connects to a imapserver if the real mailhost of this user is different than the one that is connected so session is forwarded to real mailhost. Normally we can do that with

dovecot/vpopmail lastauth
Hi All, I have dovecot working wonderfully on a qmail/vpopmail, but I've noticed my 'lastauth' is never filled in.. If I use vpopmail's pop, and auth to that, then 'lastauth' is updated. It just seems weird that if dovecot is using the vpopmail lib, that lastauth wouldn't be updated. Has anyone else run into this? Thanks Rick

lda and home directory
Hello, I am using qmail and lda configured such that lda should not have to do a lookup for delivery. I set my defaultdelivery like so: |HOME=/home/mail/$USER /var/qmail/bin/preline -f /usr/local/libexec/dovecot/dovecot-lda Given that the email address being delivered to is bob.miller at computerisms.com, I expect $USER to be equal to bob.miller and $HOME to expand to /home/mail/bob.miller/.

dovecot and vmailmgr
hello now that dovecot supports authentication with checkpassword-compatible modules, I tried to get it working for IMAP on a qmail + vmailmgr server. For a subtle detail, while claiming to be "a drop-in replacement for the standard checkpassword", checkvpw (auth module for vmailmgr) is not "drop in". It actually expects 2 args on its command line, not 1. So, a wrapper

regarding dovecot.index.cache
Hi, This is regarding updating dovecot.index.cache. I have few backup ids configured. these are used only when old mail needs to be retrieved. usually these mailboxes contains more then 9,000 mails. while login to webmail, imap consumption is high, which creates performance related issues for regular mailboxes. to resolve this i have to move heavy mailbox to dedicated server. before doing

Dovecot auth username mapping
I have an interesting case here ? Virtual mailboxes, domain/username/aliases stored in MySQL, authentication done using PAM. PAM authenticates through Kerberos, which are internal realms and not the email domains ? for example, my username would be laz at PARAVIS.LOCAL <mailto:laz at PARAVIS.LOCAL> and my email address would be laz at paravis.net <mailto:laz at paravis.net>. 1.0.rc23 tomorrow
http://dovecot.org/nightly/dovecot-latest.tar.gz Would be nice to get some testing before the actual release. I've now finally gone through all the "TODO" mails in this list and my INBOX and fixed pretty much every problem I know of. There are still some mbox bugs, but I can't really get them fixed unless someone figures out how to reproduce them

Possible to adjust username used to determine the proxy destination?
I'm in a fairly standard cluster environment: shared storage, bunch of servers each acting as both proxies and backends. We do /bin/checkpassword authentication, allowing a great deal of flexibility...protection against brute force, billing mechanisms, but relevant to this issue, I have it set up to allow users to login with either their username (if they are in one of our default

I been noticing that dovecot isn't updating when the user last logged in.. and I can't seem to figure out why. I also can't seem to find anything in the archives about it.. so am I the only one? name:

Headsup on feature removal
So I am on of the many users with qmail, and using vpopmail auth, I guess chatting with some other guys in the other mailing list we will convert to mysql driver but this is a lot of work for many people. I do understand dropping things out but a valid solutions needs to be proposed. Remo > On Mar 18, 2020, at 06:49, Michael Peddemors <michael at linuxmagic.com> wrote: > >
