Post-migration questions
I just migrated from courier-imap to dovecot and dovecot is a lot
faster. My only client is webmail on the same server as dovecot. Max
~10 users.
Should I still run imapproxy like I did with courier?
Does dovecot periodically empty the trash folder like courier does?
I reduced the number of processes courier was running to save RAM and
improve performance. Are there any performance tweaks I

Problem with seeing mail after Upgrade from Courier
I created a new server for a webmail system because the old server crashed.
When I created the server, I installed Dovecot and the old server had
Courier. On the new server, I'm doing virtual users where the old one
created system users. I moved all the folders over for all the users on to
the new server and ran the Courier-Dovecot migration script. The files were
created successfully with no

IMAP folders sort order
Hi all
We migrated our IMAP server from Courier to Dovecot. The minor problem
appeared: Dovecot LIST command
now shows mailbox listing in some weird order. (I suppose, it is filesystem
directory order) Previously, with Courier,
it was sorted, i.e., the INBOX was the first, followed by other system
folders. This is not a problem with our webmail,
because it sorts folders by its own. But with some

sorting order changed during migration from courier
Hello,
I've been working to migrate to dovecot (debian stable: 1:1.2.15-7) from
courier (debian old-stable: 4.4.0-2). I've setup everything and migrated
a test user over to the new system, and ran the
courier-dovecot-migrate.pl script.
The user is using alpine (the free version of pine) and their sort order
changed on move to dovecot. Originally it was the default in alpine,

considering dovecot
Hi all.
I'm making a case to use Dovecot over Courier and would like some
feedback. I've searched the web extensively and have been unable to
find any hard information regarding Dovecot's IMAP performance. I've
got some pressure to use Courier but my gut tells me that Dovecot
should be much faster. In particular, I will have typical users with
mailboxes exceeding 10,000

converting from courier questions
I currently run postfix and courier on my mail servers with squirrelmail.
The problem with courier is it seems to run so slow. The webmail takes
forever to load if you have many mails. I have this set up in virtual
domains with all longin and path info in an mysql database. I just joined
the list and DID google before asking, hope this isn't a common question.
With courier it looks for a

Some POP3 questions
Hi everyone
Been spending the whole day on the wiki and in the list archives on using
dovecot for POP3 mail. I'd like to present my findings and ask for some
feedback.
Our current software setup:
* Courier-IMAP running POP3/IMAP
* Postfix MTA
* MySQL backend for user and login info
As for the system layout, it looks like this:
* NFS server which is the same server that houses single

Problem migration from Courier-Imap to Dovecot
Dear friends,
My intention is to migrate from Courier-Imap
Dovecot 4.4.1 to 1.1.16, the problem is that I've noticed that when
creating folders using the Courier does not create the file
courierimapsubscribed therefore I doubt if this will bring me problems
trying to perform the migration script by courier-dovecot-migrate.pl

Logwatch
Having FC3 systems and utilizing Dovecot, I have come to rely on some of
the information I get from the daily logwatch run.
Logwatch, by default, doesn't properly recognize dovecot's information
in the messages file, but it is easy to tweak. The patch below will
give you some statistics regarding POP3 and IMAP usage.
I believe I grabbed all of the differences in the unified diff

beta1: how to use quota plugin???
Hi,
After searching gmane.mail.imap.dovecot on the topic, and
wiki.dovecot.org, I'm still clueless on how to use RFC 2087
quotas in dovecot with the quota plugin. How come no wiki
doc?
My setup: Solaris 9, mbox format. Both the filesystem for
INBOXes (/var/mail) and the user's home directories have
filesystem-based quotas imposed. For example:
% quota -v joeblow

Triggering mailbox fetch
Greetings,
I would like to migrate mailboxes into a Dovecot system by using an IMAP
transfer from the old system - and I'd like this to take place automatically
at the time the user first logs into the new system.
I have a script which will perform an IMAP fetch and dump it into the local
maildir.
In courier-imap I could create a '.loginexec' file which is executed when

Problems compiling PHP --with-imap - can't find rfc822.h
I'm trying to add webmail (IMP/HORDE) to my OpenBSD 3.5 mail server
(Procmail/Amavid/SA/DCC/Razor/Dovecot 0.99.10.7), which means adding
PHP and several other libraries.
I'm building PHP 4.3 from the ports tree and, as per the IMP/HORDE
readme files, added --with-imap to the makefile. Makeing PHP barfs
with a "Cannot find rfc822.h. Please check your IMAP installation."

Dovecot performance under high load (vs. Courier)
Hi,
We are building a new system that will support a large number of users (high volume, high concurrent usage, etc).? We have played with Dovecot, but in most serious applications we have traditionally used Courier IMAP.? It's my (lay) understanding that with indexing and perhaps other things in Dovecot, it might perform better than Courier in larger environments like this.? Am I correct or

SV: Looking for a guide to collect all e-mail from the ISP mail server
>>"Never use a browser for email."
I don't agree.
In fact, using a browser for email or atleast initial setup, is actually more secure. This because SMTP/IMAP clients normally don't support 2FA, so you would have to "hack" a solution to enable 2FA for email.
This can be made in 2 ways: Either, you have a full fledged email setup. Whats important, is, to prevent

Merging maildirs
Hi List
How do I merge files from one maildir into another maildir?
Long version:
I've been using dovecot/postfix for a 12 user environment for several years, and today was the first time I ran into an issue I could not solve from reading the documentation.
The server is gentoo running on esxi.
A few times a year I've made a snapshot of the server and copied the files to my home esxi

maildirsize quota does not referred after migration from courier
Dear All,
We would like to migrate our existing courier to dovecot. After reading
document on website and doing some tests, here are some issues we met.
1. According the the wiki, it seems to imply that once migrating from
courier to dovecot, pop3 users may "lost/forget" their download "index/
history" which cause them to download again old mails that are kept on

Mails repopping
HI
I don't know if this is a dovecot issue or a client one. But as Dovecot is the most recent change, I'll start here.
I have a server that's been running Courier for about 6 years and in all that time I think I've only ever had 1 issues where an entire mail box was repopped by a webmail client. However, since moving to a new server and dovecot 4 weeks ago, I've now had the
