imap dump-capability fails Dovecot 1.1.6
Hi Timo,
Dovecot fails to start after upgrading from 1.1.4 to 1.1.6:
Fatal: userdb didn't return a home directory, but mail location used it
(%h): %h/mail:CONTROL=%h/control:INDEX=%h/index
Error: imap dump-capability process returned 89
Fatal: Invalid configuration in /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf
Adding a fake home directory to args in
master-settings.c:get_imap_capability solved the problem

mail_location and storage type
Hi,
I was setting up a new system for testing Dovecot 1.0. My old one is
using 0.99 and was set up quite a time ago, so I had to consult the
documentation.
I needed several attempts until it worked and that was because the
designated maildir directory /server/mail/jrg/Maildir was completely
empty. Upon login the server exited and wrote the following to the log:
POP3(jrg): Ambiguous mail location

Compound search / grouping
Hi,
Following problem:
We have a tree structure with children and a root element (recursivly)
stored in one table (imagine a threaded forum).
Each of the children has a title which should be indexed by ferret.
Now we want to make a search that returns only the root and searches all
items.
So if one node has "expensive" and nother node has "car" I want to enter

Dovecot and Bogofilter
Hi,
on my small Xen-virtualised server with 48 MiB RAM I use Postfix and
Dovecot, because the Debian administrators dislike qmail [1], which is in
my opinion despite some maintainability and code quality issues a quite
well designed software, because it mostly follows the UNIX principles.
Postfix is not able to sort my E-Mail into different Maildir folders and
after I looked at procmail's

What is the correct way to configure the mail_location option for Mailidr format?
Short version:
What is the correct way to configure the mail_location option for
Mailidr format?
I've long had it setup this way:
mail_location = maildir:/var/vmail/%d/%n
based on this guide:
https://www.linode.com/docs/email/postfix/email-with-postfix-dovecot-and-mysql
Is that correct?

recursive mail_location?
Forgive what may be a newby question, but I'm trying to get a new setup
working, and there are many different things confusing me.
I'm trying for a gnus + dovecot + mbsync arrangement, with mbsync
writing to maildirs, and gnus reading from those dirs with a dovecot
invocation. Fairly standard, I think.
I have multiple email accounts I'm trying to sync, all of them gmail. My

1.2.beta1: expire-tool and 'mail_location' setting
Hi Timo,
Trying 1.2.beta1 with expire plugin currently:
When I set mail_location = maildir:~/.maildir the expire plugin doesn't delete messages.
#: expire-tool --test
Info: auth input: system_user=foo
Info: auth input: uid=1000
Info: auth input: gid=1000
Info: auth input: home=/home/foo
Info: foo/Trash: no messages left
I also noticed that above command creates a new but empty directory

acts_as_ordered_tree
I need an ordered (sortable tree) and I just was thinking if somehting
like this is possible:
class Item< ActiveRecord::Base
acts_as_tree :order => "position"
acts_as_list :scope => ''parent_id = #{self.id}''
end
For my understanding mixing of two acts_as should be p?ssible, at least
in this case, right?
Unfortunatly the :scope is not working, I am not

LDAP schema for mailLocation?
Hi,
I would like to try implementing user specific default_mail_env's as described
here:
http://wiki.dovecot.org/moin.cgi/MailLocation
using the LDAP attribute 'mailLocation'.
However, I have been unable to find any LDAP schema which contains
mailLocation. What schema is this attribute part of?
Thanks,

Dovecot keeps creating info files in mail directory instead of home
I've been trying to troubleshoot this for a while now, and I'm really at a
loss.
My userdb is set up correctly to return home, and mail, and a test with
'doveadm user' verifies this:
# doveadm user user at domain
field value
uid 1000
gid 1000
home /var/domain/user
mail maildir:/var/mail/user at domain
I've reloaded, restarted, stopped and started dovecot

Documentation update
Hi guys,
this page needs to be updated:
https://wiki2.dovecot.org/MailLocation/Maildir#Control_files
(link was from here: https://wiki2.dovecot.org/MailLocation)
Section 'Control files' is mentioning only 2 files but, in fact,
Dovecot will store some additional files in CONTROL location:
dovecot-uidvalidity
dovecot-uidvalidity.*
subscriptions
(anything more?)

LDAP schema ?
Hi,
I am trying to determine the correct LDAP schema I need to use to have either
mailLocation or mailboxPath available ?
Should I be just adding this to one of my own custom objectClasses ?

Dynamic autoexpunge for IMAP folders
So, returning from the LDAP userdb does not change situation.
As I said, I would to set folder names dynamicaly, without setting
up a mailbox in advance.
Here the problem is discussed
http://www.dovecot.org/list/dovecot/2013-August/092023.html
but no solution is found apart from defining the namespace in the
static config, see here

Help with Rails and postgres with sequence numbers (global?)
Hello,
I am building an Rails applications that has to integrate an legacy
system (lxoffice) (schema at:
http://www.lx-office.org/uploads/media/DB_Schema_2.1.1_R_393_17_03_2005_.pdf).
They somehow use global ids (global for some tables). I can not change
the schema and still I want to use Rails to access it and not pure SQL.
When I try to insert a record I get the following message:

Quota plugin creates IMAP folder
Well, I have to scrub most data from the output, but it is what I
would have expected

converting from maildir to mdbox ?
I?m considering moving from maildir to mdbox, but don?t quite see how
I should do the conversion with minimal downtime. Our userdb is ldap,
and the we use this setting to point to the users maildirectory:
user_attrs = mailMessageStore=mail=maildir:%$:INDEX=/indexes/%1u/%1.1u/%u,mailQuota=quota_rule=*:storage=%$
i.e. every user has a "mailMessageStore" attribute in LDAP that points

Seperator
Hi all
I hope to get some help on the separator. I am sure that I hava a wrong
understanding what the separator is.
I thaught the separator is the delimiter within the imap folder structure.
For example:
Imap folder structure: folder Flights, subfolder Lufthansa
If the delimiter is ?.? the ls ?a command should result:
.Flights .Flights.Lufthansa
If delimiter is
