SYN flooding / pipe() failed: Too many open files
Hello *,
I've the following problem with dovecot 1.0.7:
/var/log/messages shows

Disconnected: Shutting down:
Hello,
dovecot-1.0.3 on Fedora 6 works perfect in general but sometimes the system
becomes unresponsive and the log file shows tons of messages like this:
... imap-login: Disconnected: Shutting down: 127.0.0.1, secured
... pop3-login: Disconnected: Shutting down: aa.bb.cc.dd
Restarting dovecot helps, but what's behind?
What can I do to prevent this?

Virusscanning
Hello list,
I use currently a non-dovecot pop3 proxy which has the ability
to scan all passing mails for viruses. And I like dovecot.
I have to combine both.
One (and the only) idea is to call a virusscanner a shellscript,
installed as PostLoginScript.
But I see multiple disadvantages:
1. it's a shellscript which tents to be slow.
2. it's called *on* the mailbox-host, not on a dedicated

[LLVMdev] XMas Cambridge LLVM Social
Hi guys,
We're doing a special XMas social next week (12th Dec), same time,
same pub (Tivoli) and same time. Why special? No idea, just because
it's December.
Anyway, not many people will come, we know, but we're going to go
anyway, since the beer is cheap and we have nothing better to do on a
Wednesday evening. Oh, and folks have discounts on beer, to make them
even cheaper.

Convert plugin mbox to maildir has no effect
Convert plugin seems to have no effect with dovecot-1.0.rc26 and my settings.
When a user log, maildir creation is successful, but no mbox conversion occur.
New incoming mails are dropped into maildir, but I cant access those
in Mbox file.
I set the following in dovecot.con as describe on wiki.
mail_location: maildir:/var/mail/Maildir/%u
convert_mail: mbox:/var/mail:INBOX=/var/mail/%u

How to pull /var/mail mbox leftovers to Maildirs?
I just got my preferred postfix+dovecot(-1.1.1) configuration working on
Ubuntu 8.04 server. Users and Maildirs migrated, etc.
I wasn't seeing inbound mail (in the email client) until I set:
sudo postconf -e 'home_mailbox = Maildir/'
Which I hadn't needed in the previous server's main.cf
I have a few hours worth of inbound mostly-spam in /var/mail/(username)

Disabling users whilst still allowing logins with a 'master password'
Hi,
I'm having trouble coming up with an authentication configuration that
does what we want with dovecot, and thought it would be worth passing
it by the list in case anyone can spot an easy fix, or confirm my
suspicions that code changes are required.
You should probably be aware that this is to support a migration away
from Dovecot to a certain Microsoft-provided mail platform, so if
