compilation and installation of dspam-plugin
hello johannes, i just discovered your wonderful plugin for dovecot. it was pretty much exactly what i was looking for, only that i didn't know that yet :) "Instead of moving mail into special folders, the user has two actions available: moving it out of the SPAM folder and moving it into the SPAM folder. The dovecot plugin watches these actions [...] and tells dspam that it made an

Problems with the pop3 part of dovecot
Hello, I originally just typed up a 5 paragraph essay on my problems but just deleted it all. basically I need to find out where to start looking to find out what is the problem with my dovecot pop3 setup. I switched from courier imap/pop3 to dovecot imap/pop3. I have had super high loads (40+ and overnight one server went to 511) and its been a nightmare fighting with this new setup for the

nfs and pop3
Hi, I'm working with dovecot 1.0.beta2 for pop3 only and have set index=memory, so no indizes are created on the disk. pop3_uidl_format is set to %f. The maildirs are located on an nfs-share. So generally, this setup is very similar to what qmail-popup and qmail-pop3d does. However, everytime I'm switching from qmail-pop3d to dovecot, the system load increases from less than 2 to more

Am I missing something? make all-recursive Making all in src Making all in libsieve if gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I.. -I/mnt/files/dovecot-1.0-test80/src/lib -I/mnt/files/dovecot-1.0-test80/src/lib-mail

Optimizing POP3 performance?
Hello, I recently migrated to Dovecot from Courier-IMAP and i'm very happy with the IMAP Performance and Dovecot in general. The server is running qmail-ldap and i'm still using the qmail pop3 daemon for the POP3 users. Because i want to get rid of qmail completely (switching to exim) i just tried to replace the qmail pop3 daemon with dovecot too. Immediately after the migration the

Delete mails in dovecot POP3 has a bug/feature
When a mailbox has abt 40 mails with 4-5 mb attachments , it is quite common for the pop3 connection to get timed out or disconnected esp. if user has dialup modem. In this case , dovecot seems to REALLY HIT the user hard. Because it simply DOES NOT delete mails , even if user requested so. It only deletes the mails if users succesfully logs out. No other pop3 server has this problem so i would

If so, I could auto-archive them. Yes, they are marked read. See "Flag changes" on

Some POP3 questions
Hi everyone Been spending the whole day on the wiki and in the list archives on using dovecot for POP3 mail. I'd like to present my findings and ask for some feedback. Our current software setup: * Courier-IMAP running POP3/IMAP * Postfix MTA * MySQL backend for user and login info As for the system layout, it looks like this: * NFS server which is the same server that houses single

pop3 and dsync master-master replication issue causing duplicate delivery (resolved)
I had opened a thread a while ago in regards to dsync duplicate delivery issues. Here is an update in case anybody else is suffering from this: https://dovecot.org/list/dovecot/2016-April/103973.html We are using an LDAP backend for userdb and passdb lookups and this is causing multiple replication users to be created. Here is the broken setup: ###############################################

Severe pop3 incompatibility report
Hello, According to our experiences, most recent dovecot incompatible with eudora pop3 client - eudora (5.1, 6), pop3, 'leave on server' enabled: the clients receive the full inbox *every time* they check the inbox on the server. [Users using other MUAs experienced the same once, at switching from uw-pop3d/imapd to dovecot.] That is absolutely devastating, especially for home users

Dovecot LDA and address extensions
I'm converting over a virtual user installation that used Postfix and maildrop with a MySQL back-end for mailbox lookups to use Dovecot LDA. The maildrop setup used a database table like: +-------------------------+--------+-------------+--------------------+ | address | owner | domain | mailbox |

Pop3 hanging up after login.
Hi, I'm trying to implement a second dovecot server on a second machine to try to load balance IMAP/POP3 services. The first machine is already running and is working pretty well with dovecot-pop3d 1:1.0.15-2.3+lenny1. The new machine is running dovecot-pop3d 1:1.2.15-7 and accessing the existing maildirs over a NFS share on /mnt/mail. When I try to telnet localhost 110 on the new machine

Assertion in istream.c::167 in POP3 mode when maildir content has wrong S value (using 2.2.13)
Hi, the affected machine is running 2.2.13 on Gentoo x86_64. For me it looks like the old size is still in some struct or whereever even after the file has been renamed. I see that there are many commits following 2.2.13, is that possibly already fixed or do I need to dig in the code? The original problem seems to be that maildrop uses the file size before piping the mail into spamassassin

new-attrib lost when calling through pop3
Hi, I noticed, that all messages are moved from new/ to cur/ (using maildirs) after the authentication in pop3, even before the list command. I'm working with 1.0-stable-20050426. Why is this done? Shouldn't a message keep it's new-attrib as long as it isn't retrieved? This is how it worked with qmail-pop3d. Through imap, it works correctly. It's just sad if I can't

How to log POP3 events
Hello all, Thanks for your help getting me started. I have Dovecot running now. When I troubleshoot customer email problems, I need to be able to see the number of emails they popped. In /var/log/maillog, Dovecot just tells me that they authenticated, but not what happened after they authenticated. With pop3d, I saw how many emails they popped. Can I set that in Dovecot? I checked the

Dovecots pop3-UIDL command impl. not RFC compliant ?
Hi ! POP3-RFC (1939) speaks about UIDL command: The unique-id of a message is an arbitrary server-determined string, consisting of one to 70 characters in the range 0x21 to 0x7E, which uniquely identifies a message within a maildrop and which persists across sessions. When I issue an UIDL command (dovecot 0.99.10.9) I get replies like 1 1093990148.1 2 1093990148.2 3 1093990148.3 ... . You see
