convert plugin created maildirfolder file in root maildir directory
I've noticed that if a user's maildir gets created by deliver or pop/imap without the convert plugin running, the maildir structure is fine (no maildirfolder file). But, if a user gets converted, there is a maildirfolder file in the user's base maildir directory. As far as I can tell, that doesn't cause any problems, but I just wanted to mention it. I've looked at the code

v1.0.13: maildirfolder not being created
Hi, I'm using version 1.0.13 of dovecot. I know it's somewhat dated, but that's the latest that Debian etch offers, and I would like to avoid compiling by myself if possible. dovecot is not creating the 'maildirfolder' in folders that are created via IMAP. Looking at the NEWS file, this was implemented in v1.0.rc7, so my version should have that working already. Is

maildirfolder file created in maildir root during auto-creation with 2.3.4.1 but not 2.2.27
Hello, as the tin says. I have several servers running 2.2.27 (Debian stretch) and am adding new ones with 2.3.4.1 (Debian buster). The configs were upgraded where needed but neither 10-mail.conf nor 15-mailboxes.conf were changed. 15-mailboxes is all commented out (I guess the default is auto-create, which isn't documented anywhere I could find) and the only non-comments in 10-mail.conf are

IMAP creates .userid directory even after pop.
We are currently running dovecot-1.0.10 on Solaris 10 x86. Several users has noticed that they get different emails when using pop vs using IMAP. When I check a user's home directory, I find the following situation: /nfs/mail/1/1/hiro.11/mail/: drwx------ 6 176785 1000 512 Mar 21 07:53 . drwxr-xr-x 3 176785 1000 512 Feb 29 17:01 .. drwx------ 5 176785 1000

maildirfolder file created in maildir root during auto-creation with 2.3.4.1 but not 2.2.27
Can you provide full doveconf -n output? Also how are you delivering mail? move imap mail to new server
I tarred up my Maildir from one server and untarred it on another, I had hoped it would work, It partially does. It has all my messages but doesn't show the subdirectories in Thunderbird. Linking mailboxes
Hi, I am new to Dovecot and I am trying to link an email account folder to another Maildir(its a backup of the older email). I want the email account to be able to access the older emails. I am assuming this is done by creating a symlink? Currently reading instructions on this page:- https://wiki.dovecot.org/SharedMailboxes/Symlinks At the moment I have the folder:-

Dovecot dsync not replicating ".dovecot.sieve -> .sieve/managesieve.sieve" / setactive
Hello, I've ran into problem with Dovecot and dsync replication. Everything works perfectly, including replication of sieve scripts, except fact that if user activates the 'managesieve' ruleset (I'm using currently Roundcubemail) on "mail1" host, it wouldn't be activated on "mail2" host, by creating symlink ".dovecot.sieve ->

v1.1.1: Some files not created with dovecot-shared permissions
Hi, I use dovecot-shared to add read permissions to the group in my mail server, which uses virtual users. This is only to ease backups. However, a few files are not created with the permissions in dovecot-shared. I've seen this happen to 'subscriptions', 'maildirfolder' (when dovecot-shared exists; the change to correctly create maildirfolder in this case is very

Can't access maildir with dovecot
I'm a total newbie regarding imap servers. I'm trying to set up a Offlineimap/dovecot/Gnus system and Gnus complains that it cannot access the maildir... Here is my setup, put together by copying stuff from around the web without any prior knowledge of these tools... * Offlineimap is setup to use the $HOME/Maildir-free/, using --8<---------------cut

dsync not replicating ".dovecot.sieve -> .sieve/managesieve.sieve"
Hi, Currently using dovecot 2.3.2.1 and pigeonhole 0.5.2 on two identical hosts. I recently noticed ".dovecot.sieve" and ".sieve/managesieve.sieve" are not replicating from one host to the other in either direction. Mail is having no trouble replicating on both hosts with dsync, it is only sieve files that are not replicating for unclear reasons. # doveconf -n host 1:

some Maildir files not honoring dovecot-shared
I'm using RC15 on Solaris 9. The wiki indicates that when a dovecot-shared file exists, "Dovecot uses the same permissions and GID when it creates index files, dovecot-uidlist file, new mail files, etc." In my case, Dovecot *is* creating new index files based on dovecot-shared, but dovecot-uidlist and individual message files don't completely match the permissions/group

maildir++ specification compliance.
Hi folks. I was doing some testing this morning and realized Dovecot RC2 isn't fully compliant with the maildir++ specification. Most notably, it appears that Dovecot isn't creating a "maildirfolder" file (0 byte length) in folders it creates. >From http://www.inter7.com/courierimap/README.maildirquota.html "Within each subdirectory there's an empty file,

Linking mailboxes
Hello Kunal, I've done this once, and it was for bakcup mail too :) in this page (https://ychaouche.informatick.net/dovecotsharefolders) I describe how I shared folders between main e-mail account and backup e-mail account with symlinks and dovecot-acl files pretty easily. I'm seeing a crash in 1.1alpha2 when trying to expunge a folder when "lazy_expunge" is enabled: namespace private { separator = . prefix = .EXPUNGED/ location = maildir:/mailstore/%u/Expunged hidden = yes } ... lazy_expunge = .EXPUNGED/ .EXPUNGED/ .EXPUNGED/ Commenting out "lazy_expunge" prevents the crash and mail is expunged. Samba share is not writeable
I am having difficulty with Windows shares mounted with smb on my linux machine. The mount directory will not have write permissions for anyone, no matter what. The mount directory that I use is /home/samba. It has 0700, or drwx------ permissions when it is not connected to Samba. It is owned by the user jhall, and the group root. When I mount it, if I use dmask 0777, I get dr-xr-xr-x. If I use
