anyone using DBMail?
I am currently using Cyrus IMAPd, and been using it for a long time, the
main reason being that I want an IMAP server with nice server-side
filtering, which Cyrus provides via Sieve. Given that Sieve is
integrated with Squirrelmail, all is good.
Or is it?
Cyrus IMAPd is powerful, but it's a complete mess to upgrade, either
when upgrading the software per se, or when upgrading the whole

dbmail benchmarking
I thought I'd try benchmarking with dbmail (v2.2.4) to see how much
slower a SQL backend could actually be. Skip to bottom for the
conclusions.
Originally I ran the tests with the databases being in XFS
filesystem. MySQL's performance was horrible. It went 3-7x faster
with ext3.
MySQL 5.0.30 backend (innodb):
./imaptest clients=1 - append=100 seed=1 secs=30 msgs=1000000 logout=0

setup of dovecot as proxy to dbmail
Can anyone point me in the direction of a detailed how-to for setting up a postfix and dovecot (proxy) node with dbmail?
In particular I'm looking for a how-to which shows dovecot authenticating against the dbmail database directly.
The only example I've found is this one which requires a duplication of the user database.

What's faster for getting mails into Rails: Dbmail & direct MySQL or net/pop with maildir
Hi,
it's my first message in this list, so please excuse any mistakes!
I have a quite specific problem and nobody in the Ruby on Rails lists
could help me, because it is actually more a question for mail-
experts. So I hope you can help me.
I'm planning to set up a mailserver using dovecot. Users of my Rails
App can forward their emails (john at doe.com) to an personal address

DBMail on CentOS?
Hello,
is anybody using DBMail or any other approach to manage huge volume mail
installations? Comments about it? Are RPMs somewhere out there?

Help with IMAP IDLE
Well,
I've been doing some research, and it seems that msoutlook 2016 and 2019
doesn't quite have imap idle support.
The odd part, is that when i had DBMail, it was IDLE'ing (i swear),
Would dbmail send something different that make it work? It was an old
version of dbmail, 2.3.7 i believe, from about 2012 or so.
And no, it wasn't the outlook options "send/receive", i

Bad creation timestamp of migrated mails (maildir format)?
Hello everybody,
ive just switched to dovecot imap because dbmail
i used before is not developed any further and sql storage is difficult
to backup. Ive done that, by setting up dovecot with maildir format and
copy mails from old dbmail to new dovecot imap server with my mail
client (thunderbird).
Unfortunately migrating to dovecot brought me
some problems with my Android K9 Mail client: Sync

Hierarchy separator recommendation?
Dear dovecot list,
I'm using Maildir as mailbox format.
Is there any recommendation for the namespace hierarchy separator?
Currently I didn't set any. So it is the default of dot '.'
I'm switiching from a rather unknown IMAP Server called DBMail
(http://www.dbmail.org/)
Planning to synchronize the mailboxes via imapsync
(https://github.com/imapsync/imapsync)
Is there

Hierarchy separator recommendation?
The dot '.' will work, but I suggest to follow documentation here:
https://wiki1.dovecot.org/Namespaces,
And it says:
A commonly used separator is '/'. It probably causes the least amount of
trouble with different IMAP clients
And I already had problems using '.' as a namespace separator.

[Fwd: Re: Video demo of using svSocket with data.table]
Forwarded to R-Help, because I think it could interest people following
this thread. Clearly, RServe and svSocket have different goals and very
little overlap.
Best,

% in Usernames (dovecot 1.1.18)
Hi,
I'm forwarding feature request from one Fedora user:
<snip>
Shortly before suicide after migration to dbmail/postfix from Eudora Mailserver
because we use % in Usernames as fallback and Apple-Mail does no Plaintext-
Auth if CRAM-MD% was used before i installed dovecot as proxy
BUT it allows no % in Username
Please could be the following patch included?

Help with IMAP IDLE
Guys,
I just discovered the reason!
When i migrated the account from the old imap server to the new (dovecot), i
didn't removed and created the account in msoutlook, as i didn't saw any
reason to do it.
Creating the account again, IDLE works ok!
Stupid outlook!
Sorry for the noise, and thank you for the help,

Sorry...
I meant to past dovecot and not postfix, doing simultaneously stuff ends up
in this!
Yes, i migrated from DBMail and it was working OK.
Here it is:
root at fastmail:/etc/dovecot# doveconf -n|grep -i idle
imap_idle_notify_interval = 1 mins
imapc_max_idle_time = 1 days
root at fastmail:/etc/dovecot#

Is Dovecot able to use PostgreSQL to store mailboxes?
Subject says it all.
(I'm almost positive this is a FAQ, or that the information is online
_somewhere_, but I just spent 20 minutes without finding it ... sorry if I
didn't search hard enough)

LMTP Setup/Design Help Request
Hi altogether,
I am switching from dbmail 2.2 to dovecot 2.1.7, and I was able to do a successful transition of IMAP. But I
had a very hard time with receiving mail, and in the end -- after loads of reading and debugging -- I broke
down and failed. This is why I am asking you for your kind help.
I only have virtual users and have set
mail_uid = dovemail
mail_gid = dovemail

Blowfish hashed passwords
> I would love to know why your ubuntu 14.04 system doesn't support sha512-crypt.
I just tried SHA512-CRYPT and it is supported on Ubuntu 14.04. I think I was thinking about DBMail instead of Dovecot.
I could really use support for BLF-CRYPT since my current password hashes generated by PHP are using Blowfish encryption.
Maybe, Dovecot could just add support for BLF-CRYPT by using the

Using MySQL For Mailboxes?
I have always seen some people indicate they use MySQL for mailboxes
in Postfix and I wondered how difficult something like this would be?
I have 300 users on my company Postfix server right now. I am just
using Postfix, Dovecot (IMAP4 only), & Roundcube (Webmail). I have
MySQL loaded on the machine that runs Postfix but only to manage the
database for Roundcube. Do you think that 300+ users
