[Spam] Any plans implement MaxAuthTriesLog?
I'll rephrase my question...
When a user gets their password wrong more than MaxAuthTries times why
isn't the message "Too many authentication failures for %.100s" written
to syslog? The user seems to get it (in a dialog in putty) but it
doesn't get logged. The usual "Failed password for..." messages are
logged.

request: HOWTO for Samba4.latest AD PDC
I'm looking for an up-to-date howto on using Samba as an AD PDC. I've been
using Samba since the days of yore, but have recently acquired the
resources to take another stab at implementing an AD system using Samba.
Perhaps it has escaped notice that the page with the link text "Official
HOWTO" on samba.org points to

using chown on server with Domain username
Just replied to another thread with the same problem...
This is on a member server, not the DC.
No the second chgrp command with the escaped space doesn't work.
Getent returns big numbers for the uids and gids.... too big, I think.

Porting to Dynix 4.1.3...
Hello there,
I am trying to build OpenSSH on the above (very old) version of unix.
With a bit of hacking, I have managed to get everything to compile and
run. Scp works fine however when I log in via ssh I end up with a
session without a controlling terminal.
I have followed the code in pty_make_controlling_tty and it seems to go
as follows:
1. Starts with a controlling tty.
2. setsid works,

Dovecot v2.0 hg tree
http://hg.dovecot.org/dovecot-2.0/
I just did the initial commit for master process rewrite, which marks
the beginning of Dovecot v2.0. Several things are still missing/broken,
but at least I was just able to successfully log in using imap :)
I left v1.3 hg tree there for now, but once v2.0 tree is fully usable
I'll just delete the v1.3 tree.
Note the new dovecot-master-example.conf, which

Disabling Roaming Profile Support
From
http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/ProfileMgmt.html:
Disabling Roaming Profile Support
The question often asked is, ?How may I enforce use of local profiles?? or ?How
do I disable roaming profiles??
There are three ways of doing this:
In smb.conf
Affect the following settings and ALL clients will be forced to use a local
profile: logon home =

getting started with GPOs
Running the sernet distribution of Samba 4.2 on Ubuntu 14 LTS.
I have a DC and a Member Server and I have a Windows 8.1 workstation on
which I can log in and get a drive mapped to a share on the Member Server.
I want to try setting up a GPO. The goal is to redirect the documents
folder on windows workstations to a network share.
So I start the Group Policy Management tool on my windows 8.1

Any plans implement MaxAuthTriesLog?
Hello there,
I've just upgraded to 3.9p1 and I notice that I'm not getting any "Too
many authorization failure" messages written to my syslog.
This seems to be controlled by MaxAuthTriesLog in Sun's implementation
of SSH. Are there any plans to do the same in OpenSSH?

using chown on server with Domain username
Hi. I'm following this document:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_Samba_as_an_AD_Domain_Member
- setting up my second Samba server in a test environment. We're planning
a medium to large-scale deployment (six sites, 8 domain controllers, 8 NAS
boxes, 120 workstations). I've already set up an AD Controller and
successfully joined a Windows workstation to it.
I got down to

checkbook application
By any chance are there any free checkbook apps that have been written
for Ruby? Looking to free myself from Gnucash/Grisbi/Quicken but don''t
quite have the skills/time to make my own app. Has anyone done this and
want to share?

Whats all this Linux business anyway?
Alright lads,
I'm Rick Masters and I know very little about networks, but for some mad
reason I have been given the job of setting up a Linux File Server on an NT
network. How the dickens does that work? Anyway I need as much help as you
can be bothered to give me. And there is a free pizza in it for the guy who
helps me get it working :-)
You are all super and great fun (I'm sure).

Only one chance to enter a new password?
Hello there,
We are using OpenSSH_3.9p1, OpenSSL 0.9.7d 17 Mar 2004 on various
Solaris boxes with PAM and an LDAP server back end.
Recently we have added a requirement for users to have complex
passwords. The problem is, if a user's password has expired, when they
log in they are prompted for a new password (good) but if they enter a
non-complex new password the session is closed rather than

[DTrace] how to get socket read size
Hi
i''m trying to write my first dtrace script apparently i bit off a bit
more than i can chew, i want to track io over sockets, i found your
socketsize.d that gave me how to track writes, but i''m at a loss how
to track reads, frankly i don''t see how your write tracker works
because it uses a probe in a function that only takes two arguments
but you grab size of write
