Errmsgs b4 and after migration DC V1.0.15 to V1.1.8
Last Wednesday at 12:21 I made this switch, which seemed to be uneventful. In any case, no user has reported problems since the migration. Not content to leave well enough alone, this morning I scanned the syslog and maillog for dovecot related errors. What I found was that: Before the Migration=========================== I saw a lot of SSL errors that look like this: > Jan 14 11:49:23

Converting from MBOX to Maildir broke procmail and Spamassasin and halted incoming mail
I could use some help here - As I use Dovecot I started here when trying to figure out why I could not add new mail folders under my Mac's Mail program, but could under Thunderbird. It was quickly pointed out that my system was set up to use MBOX and not MAILDIR, and some helpful links and notes were sent back and forth giving me a good clue as to how to perform the conversion

There are a few perl scripts which could do this ... But I like the idea of mbox to maildir in dovecot ... But I wonder if that is the right place to put it ... Mailed Lee P.S. If

Want to have some users with Maildir, some with mbox
Want to have some users with Maildir, some with mbox, as I migrate from mbox format to maildir over the space of a month. After everyone is converted to maildir, I'll change the mail_location in dovecot.conf. During the interim, can I use the Custom mailbox location script (at the bottom of the Mail Location DC Wiki page)? > if [ -d $HOME/.maildir ]; then > export

mailutil question re: translating mbox folders to maildir
I need mailutil in order to use the mbox to maildir translation routines that are posted in the Dovecot wiki, but there is no mailutil with the AIX image... mailutil is apparently built as part of Pine, and indeed I can see it in the build tree from my V4.6.1 Pine build, which I still have....OTOH, my version of Pine is not patched for maildir. Will the native pine mailutil work with mb2md or

Advice on converting from Mbox to Maildir?
Does anyone have advice or pointers on good documentation on how to convert a system from using the Mbox format to using Maildir? I recently upgraded to Fedora Core 2 from Fedora Core 1 and discovered that UW-IMAP was gone. So I switched over to using Dovecot. So far so good. But I would like to convert my system to start using the Maildir format. How easy is this to accomplish? Can I keep

mbox to Maildir conversion
I've been running a mbox solution using UW's IMAP server. I've run it for years. Now do to heavy message volumes, I've decided to to take the plunge to convert to the Maildir format. I am currently testing a single user, and have successfully converted the mail messages from mbox to Maildir format, and now I am setting up the procmail tool to place the messages into the correct

Convert from mbox to Maildir
Hello everybody, I am in the process to install dovecot as an IMAP server. Currently, this system runs postfix and uses procmail for local (mbox style) delivery. Procmail ist started by postfix like this: /etc/postfix/main.cf: mailbox_command = /usr/bin/procmail ~/.forward: "|IFS=' ' && exec /usr/bin/procmail -f- || exit 75 # jw" Before going

OT: Looking for a robust IMAP client
This weekend we had a runaway email endless loop. When it was killed after 18 hours, my inbox had 135,000 messages in it...there were two messages that were being endlessly sent and bounced and I'm on the postmaster alias. Thunderbird was able to do a mass select of one of the two messages, and deleted 65,000, but after that it locked up. I ended up firing up Pine to do the final

Question about mail storage
I am in the throes of trying to understand all the issues of transforming an old UW Imap server with mbox (I think) INBOX format running sendmail and procmail serving 3500 users to dovecot and maildir format. Currently, the folders are under ~/mail and the INBOXes are under /var/spool/mail. If I understand correctly, the typical default Dovecot/maildir format installation will have both the INBOX

Configuring mbox and maildir formats - dovecot-1.2.15
I am transitioning an existing server from using exclusively mbox, to being able to support both mbox and then fully maildir formats. I need to support the mbox format until I can get everyone switched over to maildir. What do I need to to use in the config of /etc/dovecot.conf to support the default of mbox, and then the new Maildir format (users will get upgraded individually from mbox to

newbie questions
Thanks in advance for your patience and assistance. Since a system administrator's work is most successful when nobody knows you've done anything....(ugly that...you get neither raises nor equipment funding as a result), I prefer to learn from other's experiences rather than fail in the same pits. We are considering a switch from UW to Dovecot, since our users persist in using

Using mbox INBOX with Maildirs?
Thanks for everybody's tips on the mbox to maildirs converter. I was unaware that Maildirs was a common format not specific to dovecot, so I was searching using a dovecot keyword. I'm having this problem now with inboxes. I want to use maildirs, but my mail is delivered to an mbox. I can't seem to get dovecot to recognize the inbox location. Is something like:

Migrating mbox to maildir
Sorry to bother everyone but I was wondering if it is possible for Dovecot to handle mbox AND maildir at the same time? Example: I want to convert from UW Imap using mbox to Dovecot using maildir. Do I need to convert ALL my users mbox mailboxes to maildir right away or can I convert them one at a time? I'd like to use maildir with all my new users, but I'd like to be able to

Question about Maildir automatic cleanup.
Hi! I want to automatically delete old messages from one user's Maildir, and I was thinking on running something like this: find /home/user/Maildir/cur/ /home/user/Maildir/new/ -daystart -mtime +15 -delete but I'm not sure if by deleting messages "manually" I will break the dovecot.index* files. What do you think? Thanks! Ildefonso.

Performance issue about maildir path.
Hi, all. Normally, i use 'domain.ltd/username/Maildir' as users' maildir path, if i change them to hash style, e.g. 'A0/B0/domain.ltd/C0/D0/username/Maildir', will it speed up the index operation for MDA? If we have 10000 users, which maildir path style will improve performance? Thanks very much. :) -- Best regards. Zhang Huangbin - Open Source Mail Server Solution for

maildir and /var/spool/mail
All, Not sure what to do next. Have imap working in that I can see messages in inbox. When I create a folder it won't create one. Looking at maillog shows that I don't have rights to folder /var/spool/mail/.sent or whatever folder I am trying to create. I have procmailrc and dovecot.conf point to /home/Maildir but for some reason something is tied to /var/spool/mail. Of course I am

Does anyone have a handy example or howto pointer for the matching config changes needed to make sendmail/procmail deliver in maildir format in home directories and for dovecot to access it there? -- Les Mikesell lesmikesell at gmail.com

Dot Lock probelm resolution
For the record/archive, so some other unfortunate dovecot implementer won't spend weeks figuring out this particular way dotlocks can have problems... here is what was trashing our dotlocks Basically, I was seeing this: May 14 15:59:58 mercury mail:warn|warning dovecot: IMAP(sdean): Our dotlock file /var/spool/mail/sdean.lock was deleted (kept it 1 secs) > May 14 15:59:58 mercury
