typo in R-ints.texi's description of P_ macro
I think there are some missing words in "R Internals"'s description of the P_ macro. It currently has "A macro as a wrapper for ngettext", which I think ought to be something like "The macro P_ may be used as a wrapper for ngettext". The following patch also makes the 2 alternate definitions of P_ have the same argument names, StringS and StringP. Expanding the

r-base build: failure to convert R-FAQ to pdf
We have received an email in Ubuntu alerting us that something strange was going on during the r-base 2.7.1 rc build (see [1]). It seems that there is an error during the convertion of R-FAQ.texi to pdf. The following excerpt, taken from [2], shows the problem: /bin/sh: line 0: test: too many arguments TEXINPUTS=".:$TEXINPUTS" /usr/bin/texi2dvi --texinfo="@set UseExternalXrefs

The correct way to set an element in a list to NULL? (FAQ is not clear)
http://cran.r-project.org/doc/FAQ/R-FAQ.html#How-can-I-set-components-of-a-list-to-NULL_003f The explanation on this FAQ entry is not clear. It says '... similarly for named components...'. What I understood was x[i]<-list(NULL) is the same as x$a_name<-list(NULL). But, they are not. As the example below shows, x$a_name<-list(NULL) is the same as x[[i]]<-list(NULL). >

seed data
Hi I am using seed_fu to seed initial data to tables (http://github.com/mbleigh/seed-fu) . And in db/fixtures/state.rb I have values like (I am filling only two data for simplicity) State.seed_many(:name, :abbr,:fips,:country_id, [ { :name => "Alberta", :abbr => ''AB'',:fips => ''01'', :country_id => 2 }, { :name =>

Markdown and the hCal microformat
Hi, I've got a suggestion for adding something to Markdown's syntax. I'm new to the list, so I don't know if this is likely to be received well - I'm aware that it's not all that common (yet) to want to do something like this, and I don't know where everyone here stands on if or how to make markup more meaningful. I'd like to generate some microformated

missing permissions in reference manual copyright page (PR#3528)
Hi, I noticed that the R reference manual seems to be missing the license permissions on the copyright page. Below is a patch to "refman.top" which adds the same permissions as the @permission{} macro in "R-defs.texi". I'm filing this bug as I have been preparing to publish the R Reference Manual (in several volumes). I plan to donate 5 EUR to the R-foundation for each

[LLVMdev] Cygwin llvm-gcc build error
Now I believe that I am getting the same error as I was getting last time I tried to build llvm-gcc. I do not know makeinfo so was not able to proceed any thurther than verifying the makeinfo statement did the same thing when done on the command line. Basically I am stuck. I do not know whether it was my Cygwin configuration or something I have done or not done or whether it is a valid

formula argument evaluation
%=>% would have precendence ('order of operations') problems also. A + B %=>% C is equivalent to A + ( B %=>% C) and I don't think that is what you want. as.list(quote(A + B %=>% C)) shows the first branch in the parse tree. The following function, str.language, shows the entire parse tree, as in > str.language(quote(A + B %=>% C)) `quote(A + B %=>%

one suggestion for R-admin

Casting lists to data.frames, analog to SAS
I have a specific question and a general question. Specific Question: I want to do an analysis on a data frame by 2 or more class variables (i.e., use 2 or more columns in a dataframe to do statistical classing). Coming from SAS, I'm used to being able to take a data set and have the output of the analysis in a dataset for further manipulation. I have a data set with vote totals, with one

compiling R-devel
Hello. I am in a habit of compiling daily snapshots of R-devel and R-patched on my Windows XP workstation. I have cygwin environment with up-to-date RTools and MiKTeX. I run cygwin and MiKTeX upadaters pretty often (every couple of days) so both of them are reasonably current. Recently I noticed a small annoyance when compiling R-dvel. It started happening right after I updated to the new
