Migrating from UW-IMAP
Greetings. I've got a poorly conceived and implemented system I'm trying to migrate off of. Right now we've got 20K accounts or so, in mbox form, under UW-IMAP. Eventually we're going to move to Maildir format, but the first step is to move to Dovecot on one of our imap servers as a proof of concept. In other words, all config changes have to take place on the dovecot

Migration Problem UW-IMAP to Dovecot Maildir
I've just replaced our ancient (10-year old) mail server running Sendmail/UW-IMAP on Solaris with Postfix/Dovecot 2.1.10 running on Linux on new hardware. I opted to go with virtual users and I didn't want to create system accounts and I might end up hosting another department's mail as well. We have a mix of POP3 and IMAP users, roughly 90 total. The POP3 user mailboxes migrated

Migrating from UW IMAP - pine - Thunderbird - squirrelmail
Hello! In this email you can find a configuration primer for a Migration from UW IMAP with pine, Thunderbird and squirrelmail as client. For compatibility the mbox format is used. A description for pine with imap acces without entering any password is also discussed. Please use dovecot 1.0beta1 or later for correct handling with pine. Short overview of Mail folders:

UW-IMAP to Dovecot conversion - How to migrate the folders?
Hi all, I've read so much information on this that I'm a little confused as to what to follow. Here's what's going on: We just migrated away from our AIX machines which were running Postfix and UW-IMAP. We're now running Postfix with Dovecot. I already converted everyone's mbox file to maildir, but now I'm having a little troubles with how to exactly populate

uw-imap and gnu-pop3d to dovecot transition/replacement
Hi I am trying directly to replace old uw-imap + GNU pop3d with Dovecot. Problems I am having with new (1.0-stable 22.02.2005) are: - How to get SSL working with new config? imaps_listen doesn't exist anymore. cannot add protocol imaps for some reason. - need to get Dovecot run on another port the test-phase, ie 144 for imap, 994 for IMAPs - need to use .mailboxlist (modified the source

Dovecot losing .mailboxlist files
Hello! I am running a site that has two servers, 10 000 users in both, Solaris 9 and home directories with mbox mailboxes shared with NFS. Indexes are kept separately in both server, on local disks, both servers are serving imap (from NFS mboxes). We are trying to convert from uw-imap to dovecot. Servers are currently running on their limits and now i have mysterious problems with

Migrating from UW: mbx detection and conversion
I want to migrate my big mail folder hierarchy in preparation for converting from UW-IMAP to Dovecot. I've got a bunch of mbx format folders but some remain mbox. Has anyone done this? Any scripts out there for automating the conversion to all-mbox? I believe the only format conversion available is mailutil (part of UW-IMAP) and it works by opening an IMAP connection to the server and moving

Subscription file
Background: We are a UW-IMAP shop, using mbox format. (!) We are in the process of upgrading to Dovecot, hopefully to 1.0 proper. :) One of the modifications we have been using in test versions of Dovecot involve the move of the user subscription file from: IMAP-root/.subscriptions to: $HOME/.mailboxlist Rather than having to make changes to Dovecot source code each time a new release

Questions still about a uw-imap -> dovecot conversion
The more I read about all of this, the more I'm thinking about moving to maildir format. My switchover this weekend is full of holes due to the way user's imap folders were laid out. Some had folders in their home directory and others might have folders in their /home/mail directory. Some how, Horde/Imp seemed to keep track of it. Dovecot is not doing so well. I've been reading

macintosh file clutter on samba filesystems.
I have a client who has a bunch of macs accessing some samba shares, and they write these ._filename and .DS_STORE files all over the place, he would perfer it to not write these files at all. Anyone ran into this issue? what would be the best way to prevent these files from getting written onto the shares? veto? -- Matt Pruett <entelin@logicaldreams.net>

.mailboxlist -> .subscriptions
I've mostly finished a conversion from an old Centos 3 UW-Imap server to a new Centos 6 dovecot server. I did not copy the old ~/.mailboxlist file to ~/mail/.subscriptions file, but notice some users have the latter file now. These are all mbox folders on the old and new server. I'm getting ready to do the same to another old/new pair of servers and I'm wondering if there is an

Domain cannot be contacted
I have setup two samba domain controllers, both have basicly the same configs and use the same ldap database backend. Often however when logging in users will get a "domain cannot be contacted" error, attempting to login multiple times will eventually get them in and it will work fine from then on. The question is, is there anything else I really need to do to make this work correctly?

Question re: .mailboxlist to .subscriptions migration
Hello. I'm in the final stages of installing Dovecot on a new server, and then will be migrating user mailboxes from an older server that was using UW-IMAP. I realize that I will have to rename the ".mailboxlist" file to ".subscriptions". But, I have a question about the "mail/" directory part that appears for most mailboxes in each users .mailboxlist file:

Wiki relating to subscriptions
On this wiki page http://wiki.dovecot.org/Migration/UW appears this information: "It's possible to keep using the .mailboxlist}} filename (as long as it's in the same directory) by modifying {{{SUBSCRIPTION_FILE_NAME define in src/lib-storage/index/mbox/mbox-storage.h" However, if a user wanted to continue using .mailboxlist wouldn't they also have to change the

having hell of the time converting away from UW
I just want to check and make sure not missing anything. I'm trying to convert a customer away from UW. unfortunately, all of the mailboxes are in MBX format (my own mistake coming back to haunt me). mailutil doesn't seem to do conversions properly. It keeps complaining about an existing copy of /mbox and only if I say to -merge append will the copy proceed. mailsync doesn't

3.3beta2 on centos 6.2 seems very broken
i have been playing with 3.3beta2 for a few weeks now and i can easily create inconsistencies between replicas. my first test was to start an rsync from a client using the gluster fuse code and then reboot one of the servers. after the rsync finishes, i can see that the replicas are out of sync (which is to be expected), so i start a self-heal via find. after that has run to completion, i
