More about Accounting
I should also mention that Accounting rules are not stateful -- each rule only handles traffic in one direction. So for example, if eth0 is your internet interface and you have a web server in your DMZ connected to eth1 then to measure HTTP traffic in both directions requires two rules: DONE eth0 eth1 tcp 80 DONE eth1 eth0 tcp - 80 Associating a counter with a chain allows for aggregation.

dovecot loading during boot
I have two RHEL4 email servers running postfix/MailScanner which use dovecot. They work great. But during bootup the nfslock script in my init.d loads rpc.statd and calls portmap to get a port number. Portmap keeps giving rpc.statd the imaps port number (993). I then have to stop my mail server services, manually start dovecot, then restart the mail server services and everything goes merrily on

antispam-plugin 1.2 and trailing carriage-returns
Guys, Dovecot 1.0.15 [1], just built the latest antispam-plugin 1.2 (tarball) for testing, mailtrain backend for SA integration. Both built from custom spec files. The mail that is being trained is different than its respective source in the mbox file. The trained one shows added, trailing carriage-return chars for all headers, which are not in the headers in the mbox file. This breaks sa-learn

Inbox inside the mail location
I recently had some scary experience with the Inbox being stored in the default /var/mail dir, and I believe it would be a better idea to keep the Inbox next to any other mail in the users $HOME. mail_location = mbox:~/.mail:INBOX=~/.mail/INBOX This is what I used for a quick test, and actually would love to use in production soon. Based on the test, it just does exactly what I want. :)

1.0.8 install trouble on Ubuntu dapper (PAM)
Hi, I was running the Ubuntu dovecot package until now, and decided to upgrade because of an issue with Thunderbird. I downloaded and compiled 1.0.8, and it's not starting up. The error I'm getting is: Dec 2 15:35:04 jfootoo dovecot: auth(default): Unknown passdb driver 'pam' (typo, or Dovecot was built without support for it? Check with dovecot --build-options) D I used

how do I download concurrency.c
When I click on the link I get not found on the server. I run on a 4 way and AIX has some pretty fancy concurrency so it would be interesting. But then I'm leaving this afternoon and won't be back until Monday..... -- ==== Stewart Dean, Unix System Admin, Henderson Computer Resources Center of Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson, New York 12504 sdean at bard.edu voice:

Multiple mail locations for a single user
Hi, I use offlineimap to cache my remote IMAP mail for my multiple accounts (personal, work, etc) to several maildirs locally. At the moment in my mail client I'm using Dovecot to access one of the maildirs via IMAP, and then direct maildir access for the others. This is suboptimal however because my clients direct maildir support isn't great. Is there any way to let me access all

dovecot developer documentation
Hello, I want to create some specific plugin for dovecot v1.1 (rc5). Where can I find some developer documentation ? Can I build my plugin separately, or do I need to rebuild dovecot again ? I'm looking into code, and analyzing some simple plugins, but hooks documentation or any hints you could give would be very helpful.. AFAIK there's no search for mailing list archives available, to

Stopping imap synchronization on spool failure
Is there any way to tell an IMAP client to not synchronize/delete old mail through IMAP? Let's say that recent events cause a mail spool to not exist, but people may still want to see old messages that are already cached on their machines.

Is this really a user agent issue?
I suspect this is a user agent issue, given that Evolution is flaky in so many areas. When I deliver mail to a subfolder/subbox (e.g. the -m option in the deliver command), and Evolution doesn't know of it, yet, creating it fails, and Evolution still can't get to it. Doing things the other way around (create it in Evolution first, then deliver to it) works fine. Seems to be silliness to

Wish-list: X-Delivered-To headers generated by dovecot-deliver
Would it be sensible/"cost effective" to make dovecot-deliver generated X-Delivered-To header(s) based on command line parameter(s)? [after striping such existing headers, before consulting sieve] I need it to: a) *clearly* mark POP/IMAP account fetched by fetchmail [with fetchmail using directly dovecot-deliver in --mda option] b) cleanly implement "shared mailboxes" with

cur folder e-mails are not shown...
Hi All! I realized that I have only e-mails from last 13 days. I see that I have lots more in the cur folder inside my Maildir folder. The problem is that I cannot see them. Permissions seems to be right: drwx------ 2 gaguilar gaguilar 1081344 2010-05-28 12:53 cur -rw------- 1 gaguilar gaguilar 4798145 2010-05-28 12:52 deliver.info -rw------- 1 gaguilar gaguilar 0 2010-04-17 21:17

deliver saving mails with hard linking
http://dovecot.org/tmp/deliver-multiple.diff for Dovecot v1.1 implements -p <path> parameter for deliver, which reads the input mail from the specified path instead of stdin. With maildir and hardlink copying enabled, it also tries to hard link the file to destination instead of copying it. So to get the same mail delivered to multiple recipients using hard links, you'd have to write a

Hello List, i switched mailformat from mbox to maildir. Now i have a little problem with procmail/formail and headermanipulation of mails. Don''t want to have to issue shorewall start
Hello, Could someone with the requisite shorewall expertise please help me? Here is a description of my problem. I dial in to my ISP using kppp. It seems to establish a connection just fine. However, only a handful of bytes are exchanged. I must then become ''root'' and issue ''shorewall start'' in order to get the Internet connection to work normally. Once

Allow ALL internal traffic
Hi all, its a real nightmare for me. Although i have read and searched the web for two weeks i can`t get shorewall to work. problem is that we have only one server that acts as fileserver (samba, nis, nfs) and router/firewall for the lan. the server has two interfaces eth0 = lan and eth1 = internet. The only what we need is full access from the lan to the firewall and restricted access

Time just moved backwards error even with ntpd
Scenario: server PC abruptly switched off due to power cable problems (an UPS cannot solve this issue), so during shutdown Linux was not able to resinchronize the system clock. After a few hours the server come back on, Linux booted and the services (ntpd, dovecot and many others) started But the system clock was 45 minutes ahead, so: Jan 19 11:13:39 gw ntpd[2112]: synchronized to LOCAL(0),
