server is not imap4 compatible
hello,
i have a problem with my dovecot installation.
sometimes, the thunderbird clients on windows machines complains
about: "server is not imap4 compatible".
on the server, at the same time, i found this error:

namespace problem / 1.1beta11
Hi all,
actually I got a problem with the namespaces in dovecot 1.1 beta11. It occured after purging index files and resynch via imapsync. Dovecot complains about "Unknown namespace", though it worked with versions before. I cannot comfirm for 1.1beta10, but I surely know 1.1beta9 worked with these settings.
Example:
From Folder [INBOX/Trash]

1.1b1 initial pop3 login: assertion failed
Currently running 1.0.2 with 1.1b1 listening on a different port. On
first pop3 login on 1.1b1 I received an immediate disconnect (I was
testing with telnet) with the log entries below. Subsequent logins work
fine. Other accounts that I tried did not have the same problem. So this
is probably isolated to some bad indexes or something, but I thought I
should let Timo know.

David

POP3 Immediate Connection Termination
Hey everyone... Thanks in advance for any help.
I seem to have the opposite problem that a lot of people have - I've been
running Dovecot v. 1.0.10 quite successfully for IMAP for several months.
However, one of our executives has her heart set on being able to get her
mail via POP3. It looks to me like I have both configured, but when trying
to log in via a POP3 or POP3s connection

ACLs - creating new top level folders
Hi,
I'm wondering, whether it's possible, to define an ACL on the mailbox
itself. We use Dovecot 1.2.15 (included in Debian 6) and maildir
filesystem layout:
/home/mail01/user1/Maildir/new \
/home/mail01/user1/Maildir/cur Inbox
/home/mail01/user1/Maildir/tmp /
/home/mail01/user1/Maildir/.folder1/new \
/home/mail01/user1/Maildir/.folder1/cur folder1

No filelocking at "shared-mailboxes" dictionary?
Using imapsync I changed many ACLs on many accounts simultaneously in
four concurrent IMAP-sessions.
I started with an empty file "shared-mailboxes". But after the sync the
file "shared-mailboxes" has been crashed. I found broken lines and I'm
missing some entrys.
Is it possible that there's no filelocking on that file?
I used the ext3 filesystem.

stat failed: Not a directory
I have recently installed dovecot on a FreeBSD mailserver running postfix.
But when I try to login with imap/pop3, I always get an error "stat failed:
Not a directory".
I guess it is something wrong with the mail format postfix uses to store the
message, but I don't seem to find the correct solution.
Here's the postfix log with the successful delivery:

POP3 and AVG
Is anyone running v 1.2.3 and have clients with AVG email scanning?
I upgraded a server a few weeks ago (which ran Dovecot and the Maildir
mail store), and all of a sudden clients with AVG were unable to use
POP. Essentially, AVG freezes. The server upgrade was from FreeBSD 7
to OpenSolaris 2009.06, and I did upgrade the Dovecot version from
1.1.17 to 1.2.3, but kept the same config.

performance?/connectivity? issues after server upgrade
Hi,
we are facing some weird performance issues after we upgraded on of our
mail servers to a new Opteron 64bit machine.
The problem we are facing is that mail retrieval from external clients
is incredibly slow. Fetching a mail with say a size of 3MB takes 7
minutes vs. sending exactly the same mail back to our postmaster account
is only a question of seconds.
I've verified this with

Postfix, mailbox_command, Dovecot deliver, LDAP and mail_location
I am trying to tell Dovecot deliver to use $mail_location as the location to
store mail for system users. From the docs I've read
<http://wiki.dovecot.org/MailLocation> I believe this is possible, but mail to
my system users always gets delivered to their /home/<USERNAME> homedirectory.
Here's what I've done so far:

About behavior when I used mysql for dict quota backend
Hi List, I of present dovecot 1.1.10 use it, and test dict quota
backend and mysql.
However, I am troubled so that it is IMAP4, and behavior when mysql
fell is different from POP3.
I become the error in Copy of Mail in IMAP4, but do not become the
error in DELE of the POP3.
Therefore I think that contradiction happens in database and real
storage when mysql fell.
I want an error to do it at the

Can't get authentication for masterusers on Mac OS X Server 10.6.8
Hi dovecot masters,
This is my first post here, since I desperately need some advices from the dovecot community.
I've tried to get an answer on the Apple Forums but til now no luck....here we go:
I've tried to sync our users emails (Mac OS X Server 10.6.8 Snow Leopard with dovecot 1.1.20-apple0.5) via imapsync
to our new server by using the masterusers authentication method on the old

catching authentication failures with LDAP backend
Hi,
we have recently been hit by a couple of brute force password attacks
against dovecot. So what I want to do now is to add dovecot to fail2ban
in order to block further attacks.
However, I don't seem to be able to find out password verifification
failures for our LDAP based user data.
The only thing I see are loads of lines like these in the logfiles:
