mongrel lighttpd and ssl
I am wanting to one run instance of lighttpd, many many instances of mongrel. I also need ssl but only for one of my sites. I understand that Mongrel does not play with SSL so I am forced to use Lighttpd. I think that lighttpd only handles ssl or non-ssl on any given instance. Is there a way for me to accomplish my goal of one lighttpd with multiple mongrels and the occasional ssl connection? --

Tunneling in capistrano twice
Hi there, The default recipe expects you to be able to access your web server directly from your local machine. On our web server, for security purposes, it is only possible to ssh to it through one particular ip (which is also a remote machine.) The capistrano source is so compact and tidy it looks very hackable. But rather than messing around I thought I''d ask first if anyone else

Getting ssl environment to mongrel from apache
I have apache 1.3 with mod_ssl in front of mongrel/rails. Apache is setup to require client certification, and I''m trying to figure out how to pass the ssl env variables to mongrel. Here is the apache config to proxy requests to mongrel. I haven''t tried to pass env variables like this before so I''m not sure if it''s the apache config I have wrong, if mongrel

Apache/Mongrel Question
I''m setting up a new server in anticipation of switching from lighttpd+fcgi. My application isn''t completely imported yet, so I don''t expect it to work. For instance right now when pulling up my app from localhost I get my Ruby/Rails MySQL error message. But when I pull it up from a remote computer I get a proxy error from Apache: ====================== Proxy Error

FCGI and the never ending saga of deploying on Dreamhost
I''m trying to setup an app on Dreamhost and running into no end of problems. The app is running with edge rails and I''m currently getting the dreaded ''Rails application failed to start'' white screen when trying to access it. I''ve gone through all the ''gotchas'' and troubleshooting docs at Dreamhost and the rails wiki to no avail.

Deploying in subdir w/ Apache and Mongrel
Hi all, I have been searching for the past 2 or 3 days on how to deploy my rails apps within subdirectories (ie: http://www.domain.com/myapp or even domain.com/rails/myapp) and have found a few tutorials, but all have left something out it seems. I would like to do this rather than http://myapp.domain.com/ since it will be usd internally and I have no real direct access to dns to make the

mongrel stops responding after period of no use
I just moved from apache2/fcgi to apache2.2/mongrel and everything seems to work great except for 2 issues, one being major and one minor. the major issue i am experiencing is that after a period of time where my rails apps are not used, typically overnight, the mongrel processes become unresponsive. I currently have 3 apps running behind an apache2.2 proxy. every morning when i come in to

Mongrel & Mint (PHP related)
Hi, Does anyone have the Mint stats package setup with their Rails application. I have uploaded Mint to the public folder, but when I try and request domain.com/mint/index.php the page is served as a download instead of being processed by mod_php. Im guessing this isn''t really a Mongrel problem but what I actually need to do is prevent Apache proxying certain requests to Mongrel.

Experience with ferret on Dreamhost ?
Does anybody have experience with running ferret on dreamhost ? My app is running ok until I install the acts_as_ferret plugin, at which point I get "Rails application failed to start properly" errors. I''ve used script/console to confirm that I can require ''ferret'' and make a new Index object . Everything appears to be ok in that respect. Unfortunately

deploying mongrel with capistrano
I''m wondering if anyone has built a Capistrano task that will deploy mongrel either standalone or along with a rails app. I''ve been looking at possibilities for doing this but still new to using both having switched from using FCGI+Lighty and deploying by hand. Thanks, Curtis

Deploying in Dreamhost
What pain. I am ready to switch hosts. I have this app in Dreamhost where I load the static pages just fine. The location of my rails app is /home/username/webaddress.com Under that resides the app/, public/ and so on. Like I said I can see my static pages that I have under public since I have in the Managed host panel the following: Web Directory: /home/username/[ webaddress.com/public

Mongrel and MemcacheSessionStore
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hey, I''ve been using Mongrel for quite some time now but I ran into an issue that threw me back to lighttpd + fastcgi. The application in question was running fine in the production environment with SQLSessionStore and using a mongrel cluster behind a load balancer. However, by switching to a MemcacheSessionStore (using either

Problems deploying in Dreamhost
I am trying to deploy a Rails application on Dreamhost. My application works just fine in my laptop using WEBrick. The problem that I have is that I currently have my website in the public folder. I can reference everything just fine from if it is in the public folder, but if I click in a link that is an actual controller/action I get an error that the file does not exist. I followed all

mongrel, apache, mod_proxy, etc...
after days and days of fighting back and forth with an apache/fastcgi environment, i found mongrel and was up and running smoothly in about 10 minutes. i''m having a hard time with something though. if i set up ProxyPass and ProxyPassRevers to the root of the site, everything works fine. however once i try to just use separate directories for all of my apps, none of the attachments

Mongrel and Apache docs?
Any news on the Apache Best Practice Deployment instructions? I''m getting ready to set up a production server, and would prefer to use Apache and Mongrel/Cluster. Don''t think I''ll be able to get the latest Apache though. Do I have to proxy through Pound or something to handle multiple mongrel instances? Any pointers? Any help appreciated, Brett

Rails app in a subdirectory via Mongrel
I''m trying to make Mongrel the default web server for Typo, but I''m running into a problem. Is there an easy way to run a Rails app in a subdirectory ( http://foo/blog instead of http://foo/) with Mongrel? For most apps, I''d just change routes.rb to include the prefix that I wanted, but that won''t really work with Typo--I''d rather not require a few
