Call for testing: OpenSSH 9.7
Hi,
OpenSSH 9.7p1 is almost ready for release, so we would appreciate testing
on as many platforms and systems as possible. This is a bugfix release.
Snapshot releases for portable OpenSSH are available from

Not sure whether anything should be done with it, but I noticed so
thought I'd mention: if you pass ssh-keygen -R a known_hosts file with
DSA sigs, you get "invalid line" warnings.

Out of interest, did you, perchance, try running an ssh-keygen -l on a
DSA-infested file?

[PATCH] regression of comment extraction in private key file without passphrase
Hello,
In one recent change
(https://anongit.mindrot.org/openssh.git/commit/?id=2b13d3934d5803703c04803ca3a93078ecb5b715),
I noticed a regression.
If ssh-keygen is given a private file without passphrase and without the
corresponding .pub file, I doesn't extract the comment after the commit,
while it did before:
Before the commit:
$ ./ssh-keygen -q -t dsa -N '' -C foobar -f

Potential SSH2 exploit
I just noticed (at least on OpenSSH 3.0p1) that even though I have both RSA
and DSA keys available in sshd_config on a server, only a ssh-rsa line
shows up in known_hosts on the client side, not a ssh-dss line (that
priority may come from the fact that my RSA key is listed before my DSA key
in sshd_config). If I comment out the RSA key in sshd_config and restart
the server, then the next time the

Problem with ssh-keyscan: no hostkey alg
Hi,
I am using ssh-keyscan with a list of hosts, such as:
ssh-keyscan -t rsa -f hosts_for_keyscan
Some of the hosts in the list have dsa, but no rsa keys. For such
hosts, the command displays:
no hostkey alg
When this is the case for 2 hosts, this message appears twice AND
SSH-KEYSCAN STOPS QUERYING, which means that no keys at all are
returned for the following hosts.
Here is the part of the

ssh-keygen between SuSE and FreeBSD
I hope this isn't an invalid topic for this list. I'm on so many lists and I hate to join another one just to get help on one thing. Apologies if it's not.
I am able to use ssh-keygen to generate keys so that I can ssh from my Mac to any of my SuSE systems or ssh from my Mac to any of my FreeBSD systems, without having to enter my password. When I try the same thing from a SuSE system

New snapshot
I have just uploaded a new snapshot to:
http://www.mindrot.org/misc/openssh/openssh-SNAP-20001114.tar.gz
This snapshot includes Markus Friedl's new SSH2 RSA authentication work
and -R portforwarding for SSH2. Please give these a good test.
The new RSA authentications works similar to the current SSH2 DSA keys,
but requires a little modification to config files. Currently RSA

ssh-keygen DSA keys longer than 1024 bit
Hi,
Why is there still a limit on the length of a DSA key generated by
ssh-keygen? I mean that ssh-keygen only expects 1024 as key length, or
fails. Here is the code excerpt that enforces the limitation:
if (type == KEY_DSA && *bitsp != 1024)
fatal("DSA keys must be 1024 bits");
Commenting these two lines allows the generation of, say, 2048 bit DSA keys
that work just fine

FIPS 140-2 OpenSSL(2007) patches
Hi,
I am happy to (re)send a set of patches for compiling OpenSSH 4.7p1 with
FIPS 140-2 OpenSSL.
These are based on previously reported patches by Steve Marquess
<marquess at ieee.org> and Ben Laurie <ben at algroup.co.uk>,
for ver. OpenSSH 3.8.
Note that these patches are NOT OFFICIAL, and MAY be used freely by
anyone.
Issues [partially] handled:
