How to have ZFS root with /usr on a separate datapool
Ref: http://blogs.sun.com/timf/entry/zfs_bootable_datasets_happily_rumbling
Ref: http://mediacast.sun.com/share/timf/zfs-actual-root-install.sh
This is my errata for Tim Foster''s zfs root install script:
1/ Correct mode for /tmp should be 1777.
2/ The zfs boot install should allow you to have /usr on a separate zpool:
a/ We need to create /zfsroot/usr/lib in the root partition and

And is it possible to add 1 new disk to raidz configuration without backups and recreating zpool from cratch.
Thanks

zfs root eta?
Hi, I was just wondering if ZFS root is likely to be an install
option any time soon, either in SXCR or the June Solaris update?
The mechanism at Tabriz''s blog seem to work well, but it''d be nice
to get it out of the box.

ZFS Web administration interface
I don''t seem to have access to the web administration interface. It worked fine up to svn_B37, but B38 and B39 don''t appear to have it deployed. I can start the web console server "/usr/sbin/smcwebserver start" and log in as root but ZFS does not appear in the list of applications. Is there something additional I need to do?

zfs incremental-forever
Hi,
I''m thinking about the following situation and I know there are some
things I have to understand:
I want to use two SUN-Servers with the same amount of storage capacity
on both of them and I want to replicate the filesystem ( zfs )
incrementally two times a day from the first to the second one.
I know that the zfs send/receive commands will do the job, but I don''t

How create a FAT filesystem on a zvol?
The `lofiadm'' man page describes how to export a file as a block
device and then use `mkfs -F pcfs'' to create a FAT filesystem on it.
Can''t I do the same thing by first creating a zvol and then creating
a FAT filesystem on it? Nothing I''ve tried seems to work. Isn''t the
zvol just another block device?

drbd using zfs send/receive?
hi everyone,
I am planning on creating a local SAN via NFS(v4) and several redundant
nodes.
I have been using DRBD on linux before and now am asking whether some of
you have experience on on-demand network filesystem mirrors.
I have yet little Solaris sysadmin know how, but i am interesting
whether there is an on-demand support for sending snapshots. I.e. not
via a cron job, but via a

zpool destroy core dumps with unavailable iscsi device
While playing around with ZFS and iSCSI devices I''ve managed to remove an iscsi target before removing the zpool. Now any attempt to delete the pool (with or without -f) core dumps zpool.
Any ideas how I get rid of this pool?

ZFS and UFS performance
We are running Solaris 10 11/06 on a Sun V240 with 2 CPUS and 8 GB of memory. This V240 is attached to a 3510 FC that has 12 x 300 GB disks. The 3510 is configured as HW RAID 5 with 10 disks and 2 spares and it''s exported to the V240 as a single LUN.
We create iso images of our product in the following way (high-level):
# mkfile 3g /isoimages/myiso
# lofiadm -a /isoimages/myiso

ZFS Boot Won''t work with a straight or mirror zfsroot
Using build 70, I followed the zfsboot instructions at http://
www.opensolaris.org/os/community/zfs/boot/zfsboot-manual/ to the
letter.
I tried first with a mirror zfsroot, when I try to boot to zfsboot
the screen is flooded with "init(1M) exited on fatal signal 9"
Than I tried with a simple zfs pool (not mirrored) and it just
reboots right away.
If I try to setup grub

Find the difference between two snapshots
Hi everyone,
Is there an easy way to find out which files has changed between two
snapshots? Currently I''m doing a
# rsync -arvn <snapshot1> <snapshot2>
and it creates a list. But rsync needs to go through the whole
filesystem and compare files. It would be nice if zfs would have this
option builtin.

zfs scheduled replication script?
I have a backup system using zfs send/receive (I know there are pros
and cons to that, but it''s suitable for what I need).
What I have now is a script which runs daily, do zfs send, compress
and write it to a file, then transfer it with ftp to a remote host. It
does full backup every 1st, and do incremental (with 1st as reference)
after that. It works, but not quite resource-effective

recover user error
ZFS claims that it can recover user error such as accidentally deleting of files. How does it work? Does it only work for mirrored or RAID-Z pool? What is the command to perform the task?
Also for COW, I understand that during the transaction (while data is been undated), ZFS keeps a copy of the previous data. However, once the transaction is successfully completed, isn''t it the case

Have an idea about ZFS improvements - step to the user. Is it actual?
Hi, I have an idea about improvements of ZFS from the one side and improvements for of the GUI interface from the other side. Let me describe my idea.
>From the one side we have an ZFS on-th-fly snapshots, and starting from OpenSolaris 2008.11 we have TimeSlider user feature based on ZFS snaphots. So, we made a big step to the user.
But from the other side we still have in GUI interface

Setting ACLs
This is possibly the dumbest question I have asked ever, but how do you
set ACLs on files within a ZFS filesystem?
Trying to use setfacl(1) diverts me to the acl(5) manpage; well, I know
that I need to use NFSv4 style ACLs, but where is the utility to do so?
This is on Solaris 10 Update 2.
Thanks,
Ceri

reconstruct recovery of rpool zpool and zfs file system with bad sectors

zfs dynamic lun expansion
Hi,
I had 2 luns in a zfs mirrored config.
I increased the size of both the luns by x gig and offlined/online the individual luns in the zpool, also tried an export/import of the zpool, but i am unable to see the increased size....what would i need to do to see the increased size?...or is it not possible yet?

mounting a copy of a zfs pool /file system while orginal is still active
Hello SUN gurus I do not know if this is supported, I have a created a zpool consisting of the SAN resources and created a zfs file system. Using third part software I have taken snapshots of all luns in the zfs pool. My question is in a recovery situation is there a way for me to mount the snapshots and import the pool while the original is still active. Right now all I am able to do is export
