That's because seek() returns the previous position ("before any
move", the one that the

validation help
I would like to validate a number within a certain range.
To first test that a entry is a valid number i use

to test if the number is within a certain range i use
validates_inclusion of :my_number, :in => min..max, message => ''outside

How to make an <pkg>/configure file executable on Windows/NTFS?
Hi,
in my package, I've got a 'configure' file in the root, e.g.
aroma.affymetrix/configure. (I've also got a configure.win, which
works just fine on Windows). This file must be executable (has a
proper file mode) for 'R CMD INSTALL'/install.packages() to work,
otherwise one gets:
* installing *source* package 'aroma.affymetrix' ...

do_fileinfo / file.info test for file IS directory during package load pointlessly stresses NIS by getting username / group info
*Summary:
*
During package loading the library function calls file.info to determine if
a file is a directory. This uselessly invokes getpwuid and getgrgid which
can be expensive if the user/group database are held on a network.
Note that file_test ALSO uses file.info for the same purpose
Suggest rebuilding file_test to use ‘stat’ based call for directory search,
and using file_test in

I don't know what is causing this bug. Perhaps a Linux user can
reproduce it and fix it.
Here's what I see:

Missing dependencies in pkg installs SOLVED
So apparently (being a linux novice) I didn't realize it was insufficient to simply have the file marked as executable. It turns out the default TMP directory on my machine is mounted with a noexec flag so no files in that directory are allowed to be executed. The solution is to set an environment variable TMPDIR=some new directory I created (eg. /home/myusername/tmp) Then R uses that

Missing dependencies in pkg installs
I had the same thought in the shower this morning but I was disappointed to find that SElinux was disabled on the system. My next step will be to install a previous version of R on the system. My problem is that I am planning a shiny server installation and at least half of the apps on the current system depend on these libraries that will not install.

Asterisk SVN bug segfaulting
hello everyone!
I just got the newest asterisk SVN:
trunk# svnversion
152803
and compiled it. then I made some test-calls.
1. Calling my mailbox. It worked, but quality was not good, in comparison to
1.6.0-beta9.
I called via mISDn.
2. Just call myself.
Result: Ringing and asterisk segfaulting.
3. Same for calling some gtalk-number and using app Dial mISDN/1/my_number.
I got this a

Question about ObjectSizeOffsetVisitor::visitGlobalVariable
Interesting, so I guess we can check for whether it's an array type and
adjust accordingly instead? Blocking *all* global variables without
definitive initializers feels a bit much to me, especially if they have
primitive types (i.e. integers) that don't have the potential to be screwed
around with like this.

possible minor doc clarification?
Good afternoon,
As a clarification does it make sense to remove the second 'not' in the 'See
Also' documentation for file_test ?
Kind regards,

I believe that is a locally defined function, which means you can set a
breakpoint within it but only if R is compiled with source info, or you
can manually call

Comments requested on "changedFiles" function
In a number of places internal to R, we need to know which files have
changed (e.g. after building a vignette). I've just written a general
purpose function "changedFiles" that I'll probably commit to R-devel.
Comments on the design (or bug reports) would be appreciated.
The source for the function and the Rd page for it are inline below.

Calling SOAP based Web Services over SSL
Ok, here we go.
1) I am trying to talk to a soap web service @ the url
https://rsvcstage.e2ma.net/emmaTestCalls
2) I can talk to the web service in plain ruby if I:
2.1) disable site ruby (by renaming the site_ruby directory to
something else)
2.2) use the WDSLDriverFactory instead of an actionwebservice
The working ruby code looks like this:

speedbump in library
Hi all,
Profiling turned up a bit of a speedbump in the library function. I
submitted a patch to the R bug tracker as bug 16168 and I've also
included it below. The alternate code is simpler and easier to
read/maintain, I believe. Any thoughts on other ways to write this?

Hi,
On Windows, with last R-devel tarball (r40647) from
ftp://ftp.stat.math.ethz.ch/Software/R/R-devel_2007-02-04.tar.gz
I get the following build error:

speedbump in library
I think you can simplify a little by replacing this:
pkg %in% loadedNamespaces()
with this:
.getNamespace(pkg)
Whereas getNamespace(pkg) will load the package if it's not already
loaded, calling .getNamespace(pkg) (note the leading dot) won't load
the package.
I can't speak to whether there are any pitfalls in changing the
library path searching, though.

RMySQL install
Hi everyone,
I am trying to install the RMySQL package under windows xp. I've got the MySQL installed on the computer (MySQL server 5.1). I went through the steps presented on the webpage http://biostat.mc.vanderbilt.edu/wiki/Main/RMySQL and googled around and still can't find the answer. With the command

r-2.13 fails make check
I am only reporting this because it is the current release branch and
not devel.
R-2.13 from svn revision 55957 builds fine, but fails make check.
This happened with a fresh svn checkout 12 hours ago and it still
happens as of now. Two days ago I could build R-2.13 and it passed
make check on the same system, so I doubt it is a system problem. But
just in case my system details are a fresh
