Compiz 0.8 branched
I just branched for 0.8, since Danny told me there was no reason not to.
There are still some bugs to work out of course, but since development has
been quiet lately, I figure it's time to branch so that we can:
1. Eventually get to the next stable release
2. Allow people to work more freely on master
On my personal list of things I want to see working better before a 0.8
release, I have

Regarding freedesktop.org and Compiz
We were a little imprecise in our original announcement with regards to
moving away from freedesktop.org, which seems to have caused some confusion.
We are only moving away from the freedesktop.org infrastructure. NOT the
standards.
By moving away from freedesktop.org, we are:
- Shutting down bug-submission on bugs.freedesktop.org. We will be using
bugs.opencompositing.org which will soon be

KDesktop 3 transparency patch
Hello,
this patch adds support for real transparency to kdesktop. It adds two new
composite manager related features. To activate the features kdesktop has to
be started with the "--bg-transparency" option.
The first one allows you to change the opacity of the background image. This
works currently with the beryl transparent cube and will also work with
compiz once the transparent

extra plugins for 0.5.0?
Hi,
is anybody already working on porting the extra plugins (those ported
over from beryl) to compiz 0.5.0? I'm especially thinking about the
animation plugin. Or is this something to be addressed post-unification?

state plugin
hi,
I saw that Mike Dransfield tried to port 'state' plugin from beryl.
What does it do? It should be able to place windows, based on name,
class etc., to specific viewports. I recently converted to compiz window
manager from WindowMaker (used it for 8 years), and I miss automatic
'pinning' of specific windows to particular workspace (or viewport in
this case).

FGLRX using Aiglx??
Hi!
AFAIK FGLRX doesnt support glx_ext_texture_from_pixmap, and enabling
composite+dri is resulting in screen corruption even with 8.38.6. Then how
are you guys running it without XGL?

Karthik

update on xdevconf07 and beryl situation
I'd like to get all of you updated on the compiz related things
discussed at the X developer conference that was held last week.
The slides I used for my talk are available from here:
http://people.freedesktop.org/~davidr/xdevconf07/
and you can also find some notes from all talks here:

My talk was mainly focused on "what's next" and how

Re: Beryl Merger
This was a private mail and not supposed to go to the compiz list.
Please don't don't read it unless you're on the compiz admin list. :)
I've apologized to Jeff, Mike, Rico and Arturo for making this mistake
and I'd like to apologize to anyone else who might have been offended by
it.
I guess the good part is that you get an uncensored view of what we feel

BCOP: The Beryl/Compiz XML options parser
Adding new options to a plugin is a pain. There is a lot of code that has
allways to be changed for that. This is the reason why I've created the
Beryl/Compiz XML options parser (bcop). Bcop allows you easily to describe
options in XML and will autogenerate the needed Beryl/Compiz C code for you.
The only think that needs to be changed in a existing plugins is to include
the xxx_options.h

Beryl and Compiz Merge: What's actually going on?
Compiz and Beryl merge: What's really going on?
Recently Quinns post to the beryl-dev mailing list entitled 'Merge on'
has led to a lot of discussion, some of which has been good and some
of which has led to a lot of misinformation, to clear things up I'd
like to give the story of the merge, and the justification for some of
the more peculiar aspects. Basically lets try to avoid

patch to set start- and end-color-stop for the skydome fallback gradient
Greetings everybody!
I was asked by someone (from the beryl-forum) if/how one could alter
the values for the two color-stops used by the fallback-gradient of the
skydome (for the case the supplied image could not be found). Up to now
they were hardcoded, but with this patch they can be set via...

Compiz and Beryl are Reuniting
After several weeks of discussion the leaders of Compiz and Beryl have agreed
that the two communities shall reunite. This decision is supported by both
David and Quinn and represents the majority decision of the administrators
and developers in each community. At this early stage not a lot has been
decided, but these are the main points of the agreement:
- As had previously been decided,

Post unification
Hello Community
Congratulations everyone for the reunification.
To kick off the process, shall we finalize channels we are going to
use for communication so that all the developers involved know what is
going on and where. Which ML and IRC would be used for 'semi-official'
communication etc.

Compiz Community
Hello,
I'm new to compiz and to this list but I'd like to contribute. I couldn't find
a more appropriate place to ask a few questions about the compiz project
(which is actually my first question).
1. Since the apparent compiz/beryl fork I don't see a compiz "community" site.
Is there one?
2. Is compiz going to continue to be developed, and if so, is there a road

Drawing On the Desktop
Hi,
I am currently developing a xsnow like plugin for beryl called xglsnow
(http://cornergraf.net/projects/xglsnow/).
I have been told(1) that my way of drawing to the desktop is not very good and
that a better way might exist. I realize beryl is not the same as compiz, but I
hope that the differences are not too big on this matter, if not excuse me for
this post.
My drawing currently works
