OS Virtualization: Linux-VServer and OpenVZ
Greetings,
So, anyone on this list using OS Virtualization? I've been using OpenVZ for about 1.5 years. I also have some experience with Linux-VServer.
In my experience, if you want to do Linux on Linux, both OpenVZ and Linux-VServer offer native performance, better scalability, and higher density than VMware, Xen or KVM... although I must admit I haven't actually tried KVM yet.

New to the list ... Looking for any recommendations inre: VMWare Vs. Xen
I'm new to the CentOS arena and I'm curious as to what virtualization
products are preferred?
The two main ones that I know of are Xen and VMWare. VMWare seems to be
the most capable inre: number and size of vm's allowed. When looking at
Xen it appears that since Citrix acquired them the free version is
cripple-ware and is very restrictive.
Thanks in advance for any information.

OpenVZ variant
Greetings,
I was reading the LWN article from today (free to non-subscribers next Thursday). Here's a subscriber link for those who might want to see it now:
CentOS and Red Hat - http://lwn.net/SubscriberLink/592723/485ea802859f6c36/
I saw that Xen was mentioned as an area where CentOS went beyond RHEL with CentOS 6... and being that I'm deeply in the OpenVZ community, I thought it

Best virtualization setup for Centos 5.2
Hi,
we are running Centos 5.2 on our servers for some time now and are really
happy with it. Now I'm investigating the best way to setup virtual machines
in order to streamline our infrastructure. The setup I'm aiming for is
Centos 5.2 guests on Centos 5.2 host. The physical systems are going to be
2xquad core Xeons and the VMs are probably going to be 1 or 2 vCPUs with 1
or 2 gb of

I just signed up on the CentOS Wiki as user ScottDowdle.
I'd like to update one page and add a new page... so when a AdminGroup user notices and has the time to do the deed, please allow me the following:

I would like to add an explanation on why some VPSes do not include yum. I'm a long time member of the

Running Fedora 10 (and rawhide) Xen guests/domUs on CentOS 5 dom0
Hi list!
Now when Fedora 10 is out, I thought of writing here what's needed to
run Fedora 10 Xen domUs on CentOS 5 dom0.
Fedora 10 does not have separate kernel-xen, but instead Xen domU
support is included in the normal kernel-PAE.i686 and kernel.x86_64
(based on the pv_ops Xen support included in the mainline/vanilla Linux kernels).
RHEL 5.3 beta (and final obviously too) includes

but it doesn't works.
Do I need to change anything else??
Thanks.

LXC on CentOS 7 HowTo: PAM Configuration
Hi,
I am trying to implement something like an "LXC on CentOS 7 HowTo" for
internal use. (Might as well get public afterwards.) I am following
the HowTo for CentOS 6
(https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/LXC-on-CentOS6). So, here's what I did
so far (Steps 1-6 can easily be omitted, but I am trying to be
complete.)
1.) Disable delta RPM's in /etc/yum.conf
2.) Remove LibreOffice

Added BackupPC Guide
Hi, everyone.
I wrote a guide for installing and configuring BackupPC on a CentOS host
using rsync as the primary backup method. As best as one can proof read
their own writing, I did so, but please read through and feel free to
correct and change any typos.

Virtuozzo & GFS
I have just finished deploying two Dell PowerEdge 1950s with CentOS 5.1 and
Virtuozzo 4. GFS is up and running and Virtuozzo is configured for
shared-storage clustering. Everything works adequately but I am wondering if
anyone else has experienced load issues like I am seeing. I have three
VEs/VMs running, two on one node and one on the other node. One of the VEs
on each node are doing very little

Puppet hangs
Hello,
we have one puppet server managing approx servers, all FreeBSD.
The problem is that the puppet clients all hangs, one by one,
eventually. They will run for anything between an hour up to a week.
But eventually the all hang.
We really like puppet and want to keep using it. But the way it is now
is completely unusable. We''ve tried many versions, from 24.x, and now
2.6.1rc1. But

apt-cacher for CentOS
Hi All,
Is there something similar to apt-cacher available for CentOS? I would
like to ensure that an application is only downloaded once to the
network and not hundreds of times.
If there isn't an equivalent, would someone please point me in the
direction of how I might accomplish this with CentOS?

Something like apt-cacher for CentOS/RHEL?
Hi,
For some time I've fiddled with Debian and Ubuntu LTS. There's one
really nice feature for local networks: apt-cacher, a package proxy for
APT.
My company is in the remote South French countryside, and more often
than not, schools and public libraries only have some very limited
Internet access with relatively low bandwidth, which can make the
updating process very tedious. A

something like apt-cacher for yum
Hello!
I need to download updates and install it on several servers.
I don't want to mirror all packages just because traffic is expensive here.
We use apt-cacher as specialized proxy for our ubuntu desktops, so we
download packages only once.
Is there similar tool for yum?

External CA: Could not run: Could not retrieve certificate for puppetsrv and not running on a valid certificate authority
Hi Experts,
I''m trying to generate my own certificates (all of them, including certs for
CA, server and client) for puppet to use.
and I''m getting "Could not run: Could not retrieve certificate for puppetsrv
and not running on a valid certificate authority"
Just wondering what the problem could be?
What I did is:
1. generate a self signed CA cert, and save the
