Bug in yum Logwatch reporting
I've been noticing yum updates on several servers I manage over the
last few weeks, which I know I didn't perform and could not explain
until this morning. At first I suspect a break-in, but found no other
evidence or reason an intruder would run the yum updates I was
viewing.
Yum updates are logged in /var/log/yum.log, which is what Logwatch
scans. Seems that the format of the log

Strange XEN on CentOS HWaddr Address Issue
Ran into a strange issue with XEN on CentOS that I think is specific
to CentOS, which is why I'm starting by posting to this list first,
I'll post on the XEN list depending on responses. My sense is this
issue has something to do with how CentOS handles network setup on
first boot of the XEN kernel.
- Installed a brand new CentOS 5.3 server with minimal packages.
- Installed XEN,

CentOS 5 Dual Drive Confusion
I performed a test install of CentOS Beta 5 on a system with two ~60
GB drives. When installing CentOS 4 on this system, I normally work
thru setting up Software RAID with identically sized partitions on
each drive.
For my test, the CentOS installer only presented a single drive. I
took the default of letting it do what it wanted. After looking over
the system I have verified that /boot is

file size limit in apache 2.0 on centos 4
I think I am encountering a download file size limit on centos 4 with
httpd-2.0.52
The file in question is 5.2G in size, it does not show up in a
browser directory listing, and I'm getting the error in the http
error_log
value too large for defined data type: access
can someone confirm that there is a 4GB limit (or other) in the
standard apache 2.0 on CentOS 4?

Lightweight MTA for XEN CentOS guests
All,
For a production environment, I'd like to setup CentOS XEN guests as
lightweight as possible. I'd like the XEN guests to be able to send
nightly email as all CentOS servers do, but there is no reason to run
a mail server as the CentOS Dom0 already has an email server running
that can act as an email smart host.
The options that seem most appealing to me are either ssmtp or
sendmail

SSH slow
Hi All,
All of my systems are running 5.4 x64. The are all AMD x64 processors with at least 2gb of RAM in each.
I am running SSH on a non standard port.
When I SSH into ANY of my systems, I get prompted for my password right away, but after entering, it takes 30+ seconds to get logged in and get a prompt so I can work.
I dont quite know what to look for here
Does anyone have thoughts?

CentOS 5 Minimal Install
Performing a test install of CentOS 5, I no longer have the capability
of requesting a minimal install as their was in CentOS 4. Is there
any possibility this could added back in before final release?
Thank you,

How do I change passwords / remove users for Samba?
I've got a bit of a problem with Samba. I just can't work out how to
change passwords or remove users.
I've just got user security.. lines in smb.conf are:
security = user
passdb backend = tdbsam
I've removed the user using pdbedit, I've removed the unix user,
smbpasswd says the user doesn't exist
yet I can still connect to the shares. I'm

Multiple IP Address
I'm hoping that someone on this list can shed some light on how
Linux/CentOS decides which IP address to report when a Windows desktop
attempts to access it via SAMBA/WINS.
The CentOS system in question is running a single NIC and OpenVPN
which adds two additional virtual NICs. This is a backup system,
there is another CentOS system that acts as the primary VPN server.
The local NIC is

LDAP syncrepl incompatibility between CentOS 4.x and 5.x
All,
After many hours of research I have found there is a incompatibility
between OpenLDAP V2.3.x and V2.2.x, or atleast between V2.3.27 the
current version on CentOS V5 and V2.2.13 the current version on CentOS
V4.
The syncrepl feature of OpenLDAP, to keep multiple slapd servers
sync'd, was working between CentOS 4 and 5 at one time, as that is how
I populated the "slave" servers.

Rebooting CentOS 5.2 XEN Guest
All,
I have CentOS 5.2 XEN guests running on a CentOS 5.2 host.
At one time when I issued an 'init 6' in one of the XEN guests it
rebooted Now it seems to halt but virt-manager shows it as still
running and the only way to get the guest to boot is to destroy the
virtual machine and start it again.
Unfortunately I didn't notice precisely when this change in behavior
occurred, I

Bug#772809: Update debian xendomains init and default to latest xen upstream
Source: xen
Severity: wishlist
Hi, xendomains init and default files in debian folder is not updated from upstream onesfor some years.
Some parameters are missed.
The more useful parameters when mainly windows domUs are used is
XENDOMAINS_CREATE_USLEEP that I setted to 30 or 40 seconds on my systems
to decrease the "overload" caused by windows startup (even if pv drivers
are installed).

Error in /etc/init.d/xendomains if using option XEN_DOMAINS_AUTO_ONLY=true - saving of the domains always fails / shutdown is called
Hello,
for everybody who develops or uses the script /etc/init.d/xendomains, there
is a serious error in this script.
If the given variable XEN_DOMAINS_AUTO_ONLY is set to true in
/etc/sysconfig/xendomains, then the saving of the domains always fails - the
domains are shut down instead of the saving. This is very bad especially for
some HVM domains which MUST be saved instead of shut
