IPMI serial console
Hi all, A recent thread inspired me to try getting a proper serial console working on a Supermicro X9SCL motherboard with IPMI. However I find that while I see loader messages and the getty I enabled after boot I don't get any kernel messages which does somewhat limit the utility.. The BMC creates COM3 (/dev/cuau2) which works with getty. I modified /boot/loader.conf like so..

Serial terminal issues
I can't seem to get my serial terminal to work with my new system. I had a serial terminal connected to my old system that worked great and copied /boot.config, /boot/loader.conf and /etc/ttys settings over from it. The new system has a Gigabyte GA970A-UD3 board with just a serial header on the board. I bought a serial connector backplate in an electronics store and connected it to the

ALT_BREAK_TO... + ILO ... missing something in config ...
Due to an issue I'm having with 7.x, and trying to track it down, I spent tonight getting my server setup to allow my to break into the debugger when it hangs, and hopefully dump core ... But, although I *think* I've got it all, I'm obviously missing something, as it isn't breaking ... First ... I'm running a proliant server, and when I connect via SSH to ILO on that

ACPI Warning, then hang
I'm getting the following warning, and then the system locks: ACPI Warning: Incorrect checksum in table [(bunch of spaces)] - 0x29, should be 0x48 Here's a pic: http://db.tt/O6dxONzI System is on a SuperMicro C7X58 motherboard that I just upgraded to BIOS 2.0a, which I would like to stay on if possible. I tried adjusting all the ACPI related BIOS settings without success. Bryce

serial console installation of 6.1-BETA4
Hi, is the above supposed to work? I tried to follow what is written in the installation manual: unplugging the keyboard does nothing, booting with 'boot -h' gives me all the kernel's device probing messages on both the serial console and the normal console, but after 'mounting root from ...' sysinstall appears on the normal console. harti

Crazy "interrupt storm detected" on atapic0
Hi all, I have had this problem since day 1 on my new server. It has run since November 15th 2008, and serve approx. 10 GB worth of web traffic per month for the main site and then some 40 domains with mail and small web pages. (hence - it's NOT that busy yet) I started with 7.1-RELEASE-pX since I didn't have problems straight off - but it didn't last long. After a few days of

Filesystem problem
Hi. I have been experencing some filesystem problems for the last month or so. I was running 4.8-STABLE and updated to 5.1-RELEASE-p2. While I was running 4.8 and I tried to run a command that required hard disk activity, the process would 'hang' and I would no longer be able to ssh or telnet in. I would get stuck after typing in my login. Running 5.1 is a different story. I did a low

ASUS P4BGL-MX hangs
Hi there, sorry for rather long mail. Two verbose dmesgs and `pciconf -vl` outputs attached. trying to set up new machine based on ASUS P4BGL-MX motherboard, I'd encountered hangs after detecting pcib1 (ICH2). MB has rl 8100 ethernet chip onboard. This is for 4.8-R; however, machine hangs in very similar way also with 4.4-R and 5.1-R. Matrix of hangs: Onboard Ether External Ether Result

How to calculate the derivatives at each data point?
Hi everyone, I have a vector with atmospheric measurements (x-axis) that is obtained/calculated at different altitudes (y-axis). The altitude is uniformly distributed every 7 meters. For example my dataframe is: df <- dataframe( *altitude* = c(1005, 1012, 1019, 1026, 1033, 1040, 1047, 1054, 1061, 1068), *atm_values* = c(1.41, 1.40, 1.39, 1.38, 1.37, 1.37, 1.38, 1.36, 1.33, 1.31)

powerd not behaving with an Asus A8V-MX and Athlon 64 X2 3800+
I have an Asus A8V-MX motherboard with an AMD Athlong 64 X2 3800+ CPU and I'm trying to run powerd to keep it cooler/quieter/greener. I'm running -STABLE (6.1-RC) cvsup'ed a couple of days ago, with a kernel config that consists of the SMP sample plus an atapicam device. I'm loading the cpufreq.ko module in /boot/loader.conf. I've attached my dmesg output and sysctl -a

FreeBSD PVH guest support
Hello, The Xen community is working on a new virtualization mode (or maybe I should say an extension of HVM) to be able to run PV guests inside HVM containers without requiring a device-model (Qemu). One of the advantages of this new virtualization mode is that now it is much more easier to port guests to run under it (as compared to pure PV guests). Given that FreeBSD already supports
