Urgent FreeBSD Boot question!
Dear friends:
I decided to go out and buy the latest issue of Linux Format with the
FreeBSD 6 CD. I am very glad I did. FreeBSD is tough to install, but
after spending several hours I finally succeeded in doing a perfect
installation. ONE BIG PROBLEM: When I removed the CD and rebooted, I got
into my Windows XP (I have two separate disks, one for Windows, one of
FreeBSD). There was no way to get

Finding which GEOM provider is generating errors in a graid3
I have a FreeBSD 6.2-based server running a 1.2TB graid3 volume, which
consists of 5x 320gb SATA hard drives. I've been getting errors in
/var/log/messages from the graid3 volume, which I suspect means an
underlying fault with one of the disks, but is there any way to decipher
which one of these drives is throwing errors?
I've checked smartctl -a /dev/adXX but nothing shows up there..

Unprivileged user can write to mbr
Hi,
I'm having trouble rationalizing the behaviour described below. Is this
a security-issue (bug) or a feature?
- An unprivileged user 'bztest' with read-only access to /dev/ar0:
%id
uid=1004(bztest) gid=1004(test) groups=1004(test), 5(operator)
%ls -l /dev/ar0
crw-r----- 1 root operator 4, 21 Nov 23 17:34 /dev/ar0
- Now, the device ar0 has the standard mbr installed:

boot0cfg and gmirror ...
Hi, all,
I know about the "foot shooting" prevention in geom(4)
when trying to update the MBR of a mounted disk.
I have a system with ad4 and ad6 mirrored and fdisk
partitions residing on the mirror to be booted alterningly:
hd30# gmirror status
Name Status Components
mirror/m0 COMPLETE ad4
ad6
hd30# mount
/dev/mirror/m0s1a on / (ufs, local, read-only)

Can't boot with a new install
Hi everyone,
I just finished installing FreeBSD 6 RELEASE on my Toshiba Tecra A4
laptop and the installation was fine, however, when I rebooted the
machine, I don't get the boot loader screen as if the machine can not
see my drive! I tried the reinstalling and ensured that I set the slice
to be bootable but that didn't change anything.
Not sure if this is a common issue with FreeBSD 6 on

CatchAll virtual user removes spamheaders
Hi all,
I am having a small problem with a catch-all user
I have setup in my Postfix/Dovecot setup.
I am not 100% sure this is Dovecot related, but, logic tells me it is.
I have a virtual user called @reinhold.dk setup
to redirect to my main account, peter at reinhold.dk.
If I send a spam mail (GTUBE) to
peter at reinhold.dk, the mail is marked with Amavis x-headers as it should be.
If I

Mailing lists in Dovecot?
Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone could recommend a simple mailing list manager that plays well with a Postfix/Dovecot setup, with virtual domains?
It really just has to be very simple, basically, an alias would work, if I could rewrite the sender address/name, and I don't really need the possibility for users to subscribe via e-mail based commands.
I've looked at the XEXEC plugin as a

Variable length datafile import problem
Dear all,
I am stuck the reading of a file which has 100s of rows and variable column counts.
The tab-limited data file looks something like:

Naming Convention
I was wondering whether there exists a naming convention for row and column
names in R data frames and matrices.
E.g: PriceSwap or PRICESWAP or PRICE.SWAP
Many thanks.

[plyr] Moving average filter with plyr
Dear all,
I'm stuck with a problem using plyr to process a rather large junk of data. What I'm trying to do is applying a moving average to all the subparts of the dataframe (the example data can be found here https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2414056/testData.Rdata).
require(plyr)
load("testData.Rdata")
applyfilter<-function(x){
return(filter(x,rep(1/5, times=5)))

Low random entropy
I am use to low random entropy on my arm boards, not an intel.
On my Lenovo x120e,
cat /proc/sys/kernel/random/entropy_avail
reports 3190 bits of entropy.
On my armv7 with Centos7 I would get 130 unless I installed rng-tools
and then I get ~1300. SSH into one and it drops back to 30! for a few
minutes. Sigh.
Anyway on my new Zotac nano ad12 with an AMD E-1800 duo core, I am
seeing 180.

weird breaks in hist (PR#2431)
Full_Name: Reinhold Koch
Version: 1.6.1
OS: redhat 8.0
Submission from: (NULL) (131.152.84.111)
I came across rather weird behavior of the breaks in hist:
hist(1:3)
gives the expected result, besides an unnecessary gap between 2nd and 3rd
column
hist(1:4)
always merges up the first two columns, also if I resort to
hist.default(1:4,breaks=1:4). hist.default(1:4, include.lowest=F) gives an

Dovecot vs Ports
Just discovered that there might be a problem with the latest Dovecot
update thru portupgrade.
If I reboot my BSD (6.2-PRERELEASE), it stopped/hanged during boot-sequence.
Thanks to Jack Raats problem is solved now; he will explain _exactly_
what went wrong...

Reconstruct disklabel for UFS and GELI volumes
Hi,
Somehow[TM] an installation of 4.11 to ad0s3 managed to wipe out my
existing disklabel for 7.0 on ad0s4. I now need to recover the
disklabel to get my system to boot!
There were three labels
- ad0s4a: UFS, exact size unknown. Is it possible to infer this from
the UFS partition size? I can mount this already, as I simply wrote an
'a' label of maximum size to the disklabel
- ad0s4b:

Can you POP a specific folder in Dovecot?
Hi all,
I am in the middle of migrating from an old, Windows based
mailserver, and have run into a small challenge I hope someone here
can help me with.
In my old setup, a user could have folders on the server, and by
using his login with the mailbox appended, could pop a given folder
specifically.
For instance, logging in with user at example.com would pop INBOX, and
logging in with
