ls permissions format changed in CentOS 8
It's a missing ncurses feature in the older PuTTY that's trigged by an
update to ncurses or terminfo in CentOS 8. PuTTY 0.72 added support for the
REP (repeating character) command and the newer terminfo adds that as an
xterm feature. The Epsilon author spotted it in the PuTTY changelog.
So any curses app that uses repeating characters will have this problem

[LLVMdev] -ltinfo and -lz causing problems
On a particular system I am trying to link my application to the LLVM
library
and it can't find -ltinfo and -lz. The former is part of ncurses (build
with term-
info). Building ncurses for this system in user space turns out to be not
straight-forward (haven't succeeded so far).
In LLVM, is there a way to turn the need for -ltinfo and -lz off?

Remote Installworld
I'm currently administering a machine about 1500mi from me with nobody
local to the machine to assist me. Anyways, my only access to this
machine is via SSH, no remote serial console or anything.
When I try to do a "make installworld" I end up with
install: rename: /lib/INS@aTxk to /lib/libcrypt.so.3: Operation not
permitted
very shortly thereafter. I cannot boot

php5 and postgresql 8.2/8.3
Hi.
I have installed php5 with support for postgresql (php5-pgsql). If I
install postgresql-client ver. 8.2.7 or 8.3.x apache (httpd)
core-dumps. If I install postgresql-client 8.1.11 or 8.2.6 apache does
not core-dump.
This is the output (backtrace) from gdb:

Prototyping for basejail distribuition
Hi,
I attach 2 files in this email, the first is a Makefile and the second is
jail.conf.
For demonstre my idea i resolved create one "Pseudo Prototyping", for test
is necessary:
1 - Create dir /usr/local/basejail
2 - Copy Makefile to /usr/local/basejail
3 - Copy jail.conf to /etc
4 - The initial basejail is precompiled is distributed in CD1,
for simular basejail is necessary a

SMP goes away after installworld (4.8-STABLE)
Hello,
I installed 4.8-RELEASE a few weeks ago, and since I let
the effort sit stagnant for a while I decided to do the
cvsup/buildworld/buildkernel/installkernel/installworld/mergemaster/MAKEDEV
steps to get current.
Went fine, rebooted, then noticed that just one CPU was recognized:

buildworld tries to write to DESTDIR?
Hi!
I'm trying to cross-compile 4.8-STABLE world to install
it over NFS later.
I have ./make.conf:

CPUTYPE=i486
KERNCONF?=CONS
MODULES_WITH_WORLD=true
DESTDIR=/mnt/cons
# end of file
I run:
dir=`pwd`
make __MAKE_CONF=$dir/make.conf buildworld 2>&1 | tee $dir/bw.log
It fails:

ls permissions format changed in CentOS 8
It's not a ls bug. I've stepped through the code with gdb and it looks just
fine. At this point I think Epsilon (a 32-bit app) is corrupting the image
of its child process in a strange way. I'm working with the author at
Lugaru (who's very responsive) to track it down. He couldn't reproduce it
right away. I just reproduced it on a virgin CentOS 8 image at Linode with

Problem with /boot/loader
Hello,
I have a problem with loader. I recently upgraded from 6_rel to 7_rel.
Now when I install world there is a problem booting.
Here is what I do:
cd /usr/src

make installkernel KERNCONF=BLACK
At this point I can reboot and all is good. After boot I install the new world:
cd /usr/src
mergemaster -p
reboot into single user mode
cd /usr/src

Is it a trick question?? Isn't the remote machine the only place that
you can fix ?? Setting TERM on the local machine won't magically make a

Please cc me ( eperrin@cseven.ca ) on responses to this, I am not on either

make installworld, permissions and labels
Just a quick question,
My system is quite heavily customised with regard to permissions
and MAC labels on system binaries. Is there any way to stop
make installworld resetting all my customisation? At the moment
I have a set of scripts to set permissions on everything but that's
not exactly ideal.

cat with backspace and newline characters
Hi,
when mixing newline and backspace characters I get the following output
(see below). In the second call, the backspace character is simply not
applied. Is this normal behaviour?
Thank you.
