Equal bandwidth configuration among host with dummynet
Hi all, First of all, I have spent a lot of time reading up on it. Anyway, I live in a shared accomodation with 2 roommates and a landlord and we share a cable internet connection. It is 2Mbit/400Kbit connection. Sometimes when one of us is downloading a song through Kazaa or a new Linux or FreeBSD iso, the bandwidth gets hogged and other users can't get through. I was trying to configure

4.8-Stable DummyNet
Hi. We just opened a gaming center and have chosen to run a FreeBsd box for our firewall. IPFW is configured at it's very basic running natd through rl0 and allowing any to any connections from the lan to the outer world. Natd controls access to the lan. We have a 6.0 mb/s ADSL net connection for all the gaming clients to use, however if a gamer starts downloading a file, that file

[Asus Eeebox] USB FXO adapter?
Hello I'm contemplating building an Asterisk voice server out of the compact Asus EeeBox: http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=24&l2=165 But they're so compact, they don't have a PCI slot to handle an analog phone line. I'd like to minimize footpring and cables: Besides analog/SIP boxes like Linksys (extra cables + transformer), does someone know of a USB adapter that is

Limiting bandwidth
Greetings, Scenario: Centos box with eth1 (10.0.0.0/24) and eth0 (192.168.0.0/24) segment on eth0 has access to full bandwidth of uplink Both are on 100mbps switches Requirements: bandwith on segment on eth1 needs to be throttled to different speeds - say 32, 64, 128kbps and the such. Required for application performance testing purposes. As usual my girlfriend google is very verbose.

New admin, not much success
Hello, I'm trying to set up something fairly simple (famous last words) using Dovecot. I have a very small setup (just a dozen users) I'm using qmail as my MTA. I'm running FreeBSD 8.0 I've got qmail delivering into a file named 'Mailbox' in user's home directories. I prefer not to use Maildir delivery because from a shell its a PITA to get a Maildir aware MUA (I

IPFW: combining "divert natd" with "keep-state"
I've been using ipfw for a while to create a router with NAT and packet filtering, but have never combined it with stateful filtering, instead using things like "established" to accept incoming TCP packets which are part of a conversation initiated from the "inside". I'd like to move to using keep-state/check-state to get tighter filtering and also to allow outgoing

phase determination
Hi, I'm trying to determine the phase of irregularly sampled data. Is there any particular reason why both spec.pgram and spec.ls return phase<-NULL for vectors? Thank you. fdisk on mounted disks ?
the other day i was trying to create a new freebsd slice on the same disk i booted from (on a freshly updated RELENG_6) and both fdisk and sysinstall failed with some error (i think they could not write on the disk, or something similar). boot -s did not seem to help, either. I remember vaguely some time ago a bit of discussion on this topic, but cannot recall the outcome nor any keyword to

malloc(0) returns 0x800 on FreeBSD 6.2 ?
i was debugging a program on FreeBSD 6, and much to my surprise, i noticed that malloc(0) returns 0x800, as shown by this program: > more a.c #include <stdio.h> int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { char *p = malloc(0); printf(" malloc 0 returns %p\n", p); } > cc -o a a.c > ./a malloc 0 returns 0x800 if you look at the source this is indeed clear - internally

Traffic shaping on CentOS
I've been trying to do traffic shaping on one of my public servers and after reading up, it seems like the way to do so is via tc/htb. However, most of the documentation seems at least half a decade old with nothing new recently. Furthermore, trying to get documentation on tc filters turned up a blank. man tc refers to a tc-filters (8) but trying to man that gives a no such page/section

Using a composite device under Centos 4.8 - no mouse clicks
I recently got an EEEbox. This is an Atom based nettop. It came with a wireless keyboard/mouse which talk to a 2.4Ghz USB adapter (a Chicony device as it turns out). Now if I plug this adapter into a Centos 4.8 machine both the keyboard and mouse are detected... but mouse clicks aren't. I can move the mouse, the scroll wheel works, but buttons 1/2/3 aren't detected. Neither in X nor

Regexten
Before I play around with this again in 1.2.1, regexten is still essentially broken, correct? The misconception seems to be that it allows you to execute a command upon registration from a SIP UA. Even the O'Reilly TFOT book erroneously states that this is what it is for. After reading the developer discussion though, it definitely seems to be broken. Is it fixed yet? Doug.

iscsi target for C5.x
Does anyone have any recommendations for the best way to bring up a iSCSI Target on a C5.3+ server ? Various blogs suggest compiling IET from source, but thats not real appealing to me (not that I can't do it, I just don't want to have to support it long term). I looked in rpmforge but didn't see anything.
