better nested set and :through
Hello all, It''s been a while since i''ve been doing any rails development, so i''m a bit rusty. Having found this: http://opensource.symetrie.com/api/better_nested_set/ it looks really interesting and useful for solving something i''m trying to get working. What i have (essentially) is the following models: class Group < ActiveRecord::Base

float/decimal with dot or comma
Hi, I''m facing a really strange behaviour with rails 1.1.6. A model has a field declared as :float in schema.rb, as numeric in postgres 8.1. On save/update, rails makes the decimal point become a comma on the prod server only, hence making a sql error. This error was not there three weeks ago, i.e. when my prod server was in 1.1.4. Maybe something else changed, I cannot be sure

using highlight from aaf
Hi, I''m trying to use highlight ferret method with trunk aaf and 0.10.1 ferret. In my search display I use: Myindexedclass.ferret_index.searcher.highlight(@query, result_line.id, :content) * searcher is a protected method; how can I access to the searcher from aaf ? * is the doc id in aaf the same as my model id ? * is the first param, query, the string query or the query object ?

Help enhancing acts_as_nested_set
I''m trying to enhance acts_as_nested_set. Well actually I already have, but I''ve done a hack up job of it. I would like to contribute these enhancements back, but I need a little help. I''m a complete newbie to this stuff. The only thing I new before coming into this project was vanilla HTML. So over the course of two weeks I''ve picked up Ruby, Rails, MySQL,

Will acts_as_taggable_on_steroids and better_nested_set work together?
I am having this crazy problem where it ONLY shows up in testing. This is my test code <code> def test_should_destroy task1 = Task.new(:description => "tmp", :done => false, :user => User.find_by_login(''admin'')) assert task1.save assert task1.destroy end </code> This is my task model

[PATCH server] hack betternested set to enable pool deletion
This is an ugly hack to fix the betternestedset plugin as currently a bug does not allow pools to be deleted. The single line commented out in this patch deletes the pool itself instead of only its children for whatever reason. This wouldn't be a problem were it not for the recent change to active record which enforces optimistic locking upon destroy operations. Since the database record is

Active Record acts_as_tree and leaf depth
Using acts_as_tree, is it possible to get information of the depth a tree leaf in relation to the root? Or is available to derive information to save in the way "position" can be derived and saved for acts_as_list. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails: Talk" group. acts_as_tree
Hi folks, For my app, I needed to modify acts_as_tree (ActiveRecord::Acts::Tree) such that deleting a node would orphan sub-nodes, rather than deleting them. This is accomplished simply by allowing a :dependent option to the acts_as_tree method so that it can be set to :nullify. For my app, I simply did this by adding a file tree.rb to my lib directory and requiring it in the model. A number

better nested set and parent_id
Hello everybody I have a model with better_nested_set. In my "new" form, i pass the desired parent_id as a hidden field, and in the create action at the controller i save the new register and use move_to_child_of Model (params[item][parent_id]) Everything works, but at my log file it warns that i can''t mass asign the property "parent_id". What can i do to avoid the

acts_as_tree related question
hi, I''ve a normal Category model implemented with acts_as_tree (name, parent_id) that has_many :products (name, category_id). What I''m asking for is a method to fetch every product that belongs fall into a particular category and its children, eg: if I''m asking for a root node (/category/show/1) I need to display every product that have category_id = 1 AND every product

how to generate api.rubyonrails.com as local ?
Hi, I didn''t find how to generate rails api similar to api.rubyonrails.com. rake api:rails is really not as good. It would probably spare much bandwith to make the script public ;-) or at least propose a tar download, instead of the idea of wget -r that googles finds when searching for rake api :/ Jean-Christophe Michel -- Sym?trie, ?dition de musique et services multim?dia 30 rue

[error] avahi_entry_group_add_service_strlst("AdminNodeFQDN") failed: Invalid host name
Hi, After doing a clean install of ovirt in a Fedora 11 VM, I am unable to get anything working in the web interface. All I get is an error 500. synonyms
Hi, Using ferret and acts_as_ferret. Great work. Is there a way to define some synonyms (searchable words that would not appear in the texts ? Like stop words, but instead of being removed from query and index, they would be added ;-) Can some synonyms be regexp ? I''d like for instance to have ? (oelig) be equivalent to oe in French. Or maybe an utf8 normalization could achieve

ActiveRecord: Many-to-Many problem
I am trying to make many-to-may relationship on classes Section and Content. Both Content and Section has: has_and_belongs_to_many :contents and has_and_belongs_to_many :sections and I have an exception when trying to access model properties: "undefined method `add_contents'' for #<Section:0xb745c514>" def add_content_entry @section = Section.find(params[:section_id])

Eager loading not working well for me
Man my app is causing me so much grief lately. Okay let''s say I have: class Discussion has_many :posts end class Post belongs_to :discussion acts_as_tree end Then let''s say I grab a discussion object and try to eager load all of its posts: discussion = Discussion.find(:first, :include => [:posts]) Seems simple enough and it grabs an entire tree of posts. Conceptual q about rails
Classes like activerecord, etc contains strange elements like ''belongs_to :something'', ''has_many :smth'' etc.. what is it? I can''t find them in ruby lang documentation.. it''s similar to ''attr_accessor'' and other costructions, how I can create my own constructions and how I must understand them? Could anyone give me some links
