The iceauth program is used to edit and display the authorization information used in connecting with ICE. It operates very much like the xauth program for X11 connection authentication records. The imake package contains the imake utility, plus a number of support programs, such as mkdirhier, revpath, and xmkmf. The X Window System used imake extensively up through the X11R6.9 release, for both full builds within the source tree and external software. X moved off of imake for its build system in 2005 for X11R7.0 and later releases, but still provides imake for building existing external

Misc. hints from setting up CentOS 4.2
I suppose this could be considered off-topic, but having finally finished setting up my new workstation I thought I'd brain-dump some things that I had to work out how to do. I had a devil of a time googling for some of this stuff, and found lots of forum threads etc. where some of the same questions I had went essentially un-answered, so I wanted to put these tidbits out in a place where

[ANNOUNCE] xbiff 1.0.5
xbiff provides graphical notification of new e-mail. It only handles mail stored in a filesystem accessible file, not via IMAP, POP or other remote access protocols. This release adds -help & -version command line options. For those building for 32-bit platforms, it also enables use of the "large file" APIs so that it can handle mailboxes which exceed 2gb or which may be stored on

Fwd: pam_mount configuration for users home directories from server to client
Hi, I have a debian server with ldap, samba, smbldap-tools installed and ubuntu clients. I set pam_mount to mount the user's home directories from the ldap-samba server (amahoro) on the clients at login time and this runs. On the server the user's home directories are stored in "/users" like "/users/username". Logging by gdm appears the message: "Could not

Problems with Samba-based Home-Directory
Hi folks, I'm running CentOS 6.6 on my workstation. There I have a user meikel, and its home directory /home/meikel ist stored on a samba share on a server which also runs CentOS 6.6. In the very beginning I added the mount options for that home directory into the /etc/fstab file which led to some problems, so I set up autofs for mounting the home directory. The autofs seems to work for

Debian Jessie AD DC w. BIND9 : DNS update fails for debian squeezy member server
Hello Samba Crowd, finally had some more time to work on the problem today. I set up the Wheezy VM, installed Samba, Winbind, Krb5-user and did the domain join. With the configs from the wiki <https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_a_Samba_AD_Member_Server> I could join the domain and retrieve the users, they are shown with getent passwd. Problem is, the DNS update still does not work with

weird characters in files created by gnome login on samba share
Hello, I just tried a gnome login with an empty home directory on a samba mounted directory, and this resulted in several files with strange characters in the filenames in the end. (as created by the initial gnome login) I cannot reproduce this by hand, and it certainly does not happen when I do the login on a local directory, or when I copy that local directory to the samba directory. I use

.Xauthority & SMB
I asked this question a while ago, but never got any response. Since then, I've researched the problem some more, so I can give a much more concise description of what's happening. I'm mounting the home directories of the users upon login (using pam_mount) from the Windows server. However, none of the users can run X Windows. It says there's a problem with the .Xauthority file.

Problem with 'homes' share
I am using samba3 on centos5 and have a problem with the 'homes' share. I have existing Linux home directories. When I access the samba server from the windows terminal server (via \\servername) I see 2 shares, backup and mikeg (my username). The mikeg share takes me to my Linux home directory so all seems well. The problem I have is that any file I try to open opens read only. I did

CentOS 7, samba-4.4.4-14.el7_3 and openldap-2.4.40-13.el7 -- file permissions?
I am setting up Samba on a standalone CentOS 7 server (using LDAP with openldap for authentifcation) and things and somewhat working. There is a bit of weirdness though. smbclient is only able to access *directories* and not any of the files. Why is that? What am I missing? Here is a log of a test run: [heller at c764guest: ~]$ ls -lZAn total 8424 -rw-------. 1
