Can''t run rails
Yesterday, I was having a problem with db:migrate. I was told my version of rails was too old, and I needed to install it from gems instead of the version in my version of Ubuntu. Since then, I''ve done that, and I built ruby 1.8.4 from source and installed it. The installation was to /usr/local/bin. As my distribution had put ruby 1.8.3 in /usr/bin, I renamed that and put a link to

Can''t see documentation after executing "rake appdoc"
I successfully got rake appdoc to work on the depot application (after manually applying the patch for rake 0.70). Everything appears to generate fine, but I can''t pull up the documentation in my browser. I''ve tried: http://localhost:3000/doc/app/ http://localhost:3000/doc/app/index.html I always get: Recognition failed for "/doc/app/" with

rails-1.0.0 gem rdoc problem
Just got a brand new install of ruby-1.8.4 and new gems downloaded, specifically rails-1.0.0. Seems rails does not generated rdoc for gem_server. Looking into the problem, it seems that there is an error when doing ''rake rdoc'' for rails-1.0.0. % rake rdoc (in /opt/local/ruby-1.8.4/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rails-1.0.0) rm -r doc unrecognized option `--line-numbers --inline-source

raking my brain to fix this
I am ''raking'' my brain to fix this problem - I have searched, googled, looked through rake documentation, wiki.rubyonrails and I can''t fix... This works $ rake plugindoc (in /home/craig/ruby-db/th-db) rdoc -o doc/plugins/ez_where --title ''Ez Where Plugin Documentation'' -- line-numbers --inline-source -T html

Segmentation Fault
Once more, with feeling. I''m trying to implement using xrc_replace so as to use a RichTextCtrl in a form created by FormBuilder. The problem is that I can''t even create a RichTextCtrl. When I try to, I get a segmentation fault. I''ve attached the files that are causing this. I''m running wxRuby on a box running an up-to-date PCLinuxOS distro. I''ve

rake error
I installed at least one gem since I thought I actually once was able to run ''rake appdoc'' command since there is an api for my models and the ez_where plugin that I installed earlier. I wanted to see the api for pdf-writer which is the gem that I installed most recently. (no, I haven''t given up the issue of ''looping'' that Kevin and some others replied

Where to point the browser to for appdoc documentation
Under windows XP I created a batch file in the depot directory this takes care of generating the application documentation. The default rake appdoc isn''t working under windows right now (remove the -T option). So, where do I point my browser to (so that I can view the new generated application documentation)? Running gem_server didn''t help so far... listing doc.bat rdoc -o

rake doc:rails fails
Hi there, Running doc:rails and doc:rerails on a fresh rails directory after running ''rake freeze_gems'' fail with the following error: > Don''t know how to build task ''vendor/rails/activesupport/README'' Should it work? That file doesn''t seem to exist. If that''s not the sequence for generating the api documentation, what

Capistrano only runs migration against production env?
All, Just read in the Capistrano manual about the Capistrano "migrate" task. There it says that: "By default, all this task does is change to the directory of your current release (as indicated by the current symlink), and run rake RAILS_ENV=production migrate. You can specify that it should run against the latest release (regardless of what the current release is) by setting

Ruby 1.8.5 Warnings in Rails
I have ruby 1.8.5 installed. Everytime I enter a rails command, I get a long stream of warnings telling me that the colon is being obsoleted, that a semicolon should be used instead. Does anyone know how to stop these warnings from coming up? They get in the way of real messages from rails. tia ---Michael -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Plugins? Components?
Hi, Newbie here :) Can someone help explain the difference between "plugins" (put in the /vendor/plugins directory) and "components" (put into the /components directory)? Is it just that "plugins" have an init.rb file that is automatically loaded? Also, how can I dynamically find out which files/controllers are available in the /components directory? Thanks,

rake fails on build server, but not in development
I''m working in a development environment of Mac OS X with MySQL, and a production deployment environment of Redhat with Oracle XE. In the course of setting up a new continuous build server that more closely mimics our production environment, I got stuck on the following strangeness on the build server (Linux, Oracle). 1. rake fails 2. rake test_units works 3. rake test_functional

Wx::Timer
I want to process and event at regular time intervals. It appears that Wx::Timer should do the job, but I haven''t been able to figure out how to use in in wxruby. The documentation for this is still for C++. I''ve tried the following: (In my form class''s initialize method): @timer = Wx::Timer.new evt_timer(@timer.id) {|event| onTimer(event)} @timer.start(1000)

wxRichTextCtrl not Working through wxFormBuilder
I''ve used wxFormBuilder to put a wxRichTextCtrl on my form. After doing this, I run xrcise and try to use the control. The variable for the rich text control is a FixNum. On examination, I saw that the class name in the xrc file is "unknown". Is there no way to use this control without manually laying out the controls - or writing this routine in C++? Does anyone know a

Backward compatibility
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 The latest version of rsync apparently can't talk to version 2.5 clients. When I tried connecting, I got an error message that the client needed to be upgraded to use more modern protocol. Was this intentional? As I can't change the version of rsync on the client side, I had to downgrade my version of rsync to connect to them. - ---Michael

Ordering across related tables
I have two related tables: groups and categories. In the models, Group has_many "categories" Category belongs_to :group Category does have a column, "group_id" as required. Both the groups and categories tables have a "sortorder" column which dictates the order the items are to be presented. In my controller, I want to retrieve the Categories
