Scaffold a Plural table w/ No Pluralization in environment
Hi guys, I have a situation here. I have my project set to no pluralization due to legacy tables in environment.rb. Now, I have some new tables which I''m starting to pluralize. When I do a generate a scaffold to this new table: script/generate scaffold my_tables table it seems to work out fine for certain sections like http://mysite.com/railsapp/new (which also inserts properly to

Table prefix
Hi everybody, is it possible to override standard RoR table nomination/pluralization to include a suffix? I have some tables with usr_ prefix but i would use "real" table name in model naming. For example i have table usr_accesslogs; in normal use i should create a model called UsrAccesslog instead Accesslog. Is it possible to do this?? Thanx Davide

Problem with plurals, migrations?
Hi, Ruby 1.8.4 Rails 1.1.4 Windows XP Pro I''m hitting an issue with migrations that I suspect relates to pluralization. Here''s the migration: class Hardware < ActiveRecord::Migration def self.up create_table :hardware do |h| h.column :vendor, :string, :limit => 32 h.column :model, :string, :limit => 32 end

try creating a table for your model
Railers: Greetings from the low end of the learning curve. I have installed all the prerequisites on Win32, including a lite MySQL database with a table in it called Inventory. Then I run this command line... ruby script/generate ajax_scaffold Inventory ...and I get this error message: error Before updating scaffolding from new DB schema, try creating a table for your model

legacy database and finder_sql nightmare!
This is my first rails app with a legacy database and I''m having a terrible time getting the models set up correctly. I have an order table that has a primary field named order_number. I have a name table with a primary of item_number. These two tables are liked by the item_number and the order_number, but not as you might think. If the order_number is 2500, then each entry in

Separate databases for reads and writes?
Hi all - New to rails... been reading as much as I can though and have yet to find a solid answer (although I think I found an unsolid negative). I''m wondering if there''s a way to split up the reads and writes in Rails so that pages/actions that don''t need to write can query from a group of mirrored databases. And my content managers can update a single master. I

comparing two databases with Active Record.
I have two databases in SQLite with the same schema. The other database was populated by an external customer and then returned. I want to use ActiveRecord to do the comparison. I am not sure of the best way to access the tables in each database with ActiveRecord models. I could change the connection dynamically whenever I want to switch between the databases, but this would seem to be clumsy

Connecting to multiple databases
Hi Everyone, I am trying to connect to multiple databases and followed along the Recipe in Chad Fowlers ''Rails Recipes'' book (which basically is about establishing the connection in a subclass of ActiveRecord::Base, and inheriting all classes in need of this connection from this class) Chad Fowler says: "You won''t be able to instantiate an External, of course,

Pluralized Controller Names?
If I do: script/generate controller Photo I get a controller named photo_controller. OTOH, if I do: script/generate scaffold Photo I get a controller named photos_controller. (Note that the controller name is pluralized). I realize that I''m specifying the controller name explicitly in the first case, but it seems odd to me that the scaffold command generates a pluralized

Legacy Pluralized Table Names
I am connecting to a legacy DB that has some names plural and some not. I have configured: ActiveRecord::Base.pluralize_table_names = false now when i make a table that has an s on the end, it truncates the s. example: Table name: foo_bars Rails command: ruby script/generate FooBars Response (localhost:3000/FooBars): uninitialized constant FooBar It works fine with non-pluralized

weird table pluralization problem
When I created a new project and a "equipment" model for an unknown reason to me rails tried to query the table "equipment" and not "equipments", does someone know why it did that ? So I added set_table_name "equipments" in the model class and it now works but I don''t really understand why it is required in the first place... -- Posted via

Active Resource and non default model names
I have a model (accessed restfully) named TranscoderQueue, it''s name is overridden to ''TransocderQueue'' so it is accessed as ''/ transocder_queue'' as opposed to ''/transocder_qeueus''. class TranscoderQueue < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :campaign, :class_name => "Campaign", :foreign_key => "campaign_id"

legacy database on remote host

multiple database in the same actions?
Hi, I read the example in http://wiki.rubyonrails.com/rails/pages/HowtoUseMultipleDatabases, it show us how to connect to other database, each time we start a new action, however, this doesn''t work while you try to connect to two different database within the same action. SO I wonder is it possible to bind to two or more database within the same action???? Thanks you very much Saiho

Overriding Model Name
If I understand things correctly, by default, Rails expects both the ActiveRecord class name and the model name (i.e., the name of the file that contains the definition of the ActiveRecord class) to be the singluar of the table name. How can I override this default behavior with respect to the model name? That is, I would like to have the file name of the file that contains the definition of the

Fixtures: pluraly bitten
With my functional tests (on PgSQL) I get strange errors like this 1) Error: test_create(AufgabeControllerTest): ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid: ERROR: duplicate key violates unique constraint "aufgaben_pkey" Tracking this down, I found that sequences are only reset for some of the tables I''m using. The reason? Inconsistent singularization. I won''t go so far as

dynamic tablenames
Hi List! May I tap into your combined common sense ? I have a legacy logging app that needs to be modernized. At the moment, Data is going to be stored in 5 tables, one table is going to contain more than 200 million and 2 others about 60 million rows. Mysql will be used, unless someone sees a major advantage in using something else (at the moment data is stored in a raw positioned file format,

Pluralization of non-noun names
People, I have an insurance company client and for the last eleven years I have wanted to completely redevelop their system from scratch. However, the boss has never been interested in hiring a team to develop the new system (partly because of the cost and partly because of some famous and expensive development failures in the industry) and has always insisted on incremental development of the
