Probe ID changes
OK, I''ve been fritzing around with something I noticed last night, thinking that I understood what was going on, but now it''s getting confusing again. A system that has been running for a couple of months had a hole in the probe ID list near the end in the middle of the fbt probes. And then a couple of syscall probes were stuck in the hole. It looked like this: ... 40311

Help with booting dom0 on a Dell 2950
Hi, I have installed b_78 on a Dell 2950 and booting to bare metal works fine but when I try to boot using the grub entry Solaris xVM it will boot to the point where it displays the uname info and then just stays there. It will not boot past that point. I have enabled VT technology in the BIOS (but only after the installation). Where/what can I look at to trouble shoot this? I am new to xen and

A couple of issues
I''ve been testing ZFS since it came out on b27 and this week I BFUed to b30. I''ve seen two problems, one I''ll call minor and the other major. The hardware is a Dell PowerEdge 2600 with 2 3.2GHz Xeons, 2GB memory and a perc3 controller. I have created a filesystem for over 1000 users on it and take hourly snapshots, which destroy the one from 24 hours ago, except the

"stuck" in kmdb due to dtrace breakpoint()
So I realize this is somewhat stupid, and I''ve actually gotten myself out of kmdb to kill my dtrace script but this has happened in the past and I''m wondering if there''s any better way around it than hitting :c a bunch of times. Say you set a breakpoint() to fire in a common function. This will drop you into kmdb where you can do some debugging, you take a look around

how to watch kmem_init() during boot time
Hi, Following "anonymous tracing" chapter, I wanna trace kmem_init(), but after reboot, I can''t get anything, why? Here is my short script kmem_init.d: #!/usr/sbin/dtrace -s fbt::kmem_init:entry { stack(); } then I just use: #dtrace -AFs kmem_init.d #reboot #dtrace -ae < got nothing here> Thanks, -Alex This message posted from opensolaris.org

statically compiled files left over after a 'make world'
Hello, I recently did a 'make world' to update my base system due to the realpath bug. After that finished, I noticed that I still had the following statically compiled binaries laying around that did not get updated during a 'make world'. I track 4-STABLE. /usr/bin/miniperl /sbin/mount_kernfs /sbin/mount_devfs /sbin/modunload /sbin/modload /sbin/ft /stand/boot_crunch /stand/find

zfs? page faults
Hi, I have setup an old Compaq Proliant DL580 with 2 xeon @700MHz 2Gb RAM two SmartArray 5300 controllers and 12 drives in an array enclosure. I am running the latest opensolaris update bfu''ed from binaries since I could not build from source. I am controlling the drives with the cpqary3 driver (Solaris 10) from HP. Initially the array had 7 drives and I created a raidz zfs pool

can Dtrace be used for the error injection?
Hi, is it somehow possible to use Dtrace for error injection in a kernel module? Something like changing: - function return value - value of a register If not, can it be implemented? I can do that via kmdb, but I need Dtrace for the time synchronization - chill() action. I can not combine Dtrace & kmdb: dtrace: failed to initialize dtrace: DTrace cannot be used when kernel debugger

Fujitsu Siemens PRIMERGY RX300
Hi all Opensolaris works perfectly, but I am not able to boot the xvm kernel on this hardware. I added the -k option in grub, but the system hangs before the hostname line without any debug info. I''ve tried snv from b94 to b99, with the same results. If I install Debian with xen kernel I am able to use pvm and hvm guests. What can I do ? thanks Giacomo -- This message posted from

dtrace missing ''unlinkat''? showing process stack?
everyone, Just out of curiosity, I did a dtrace -n ''syscall:::entry { @num[execname, probefunc] = count(); }'' and looked at the entries produced by ''rm''. I see everything that rm did, *except* the unlinkat - which is unfortunate because I want to trace which processes have deleted which files. So - does dtrace contain unlinkat as a probe for a system call?

xvm + zones = panic (?)
i''m crossposting from the opensolaris help forum: i''ve just migrated some zones to newer hardware running b94, and find that after a while working with an hvm in xvm, the machine hangs/panics. if i leave xvm stuff alone, the machine is perfectly reliable. it''s x64, intel chipset/procs anybody else having these troubles - zones and xvm together causing hangs/panics?

where do kernel data types come from?
I have a script where I can freely reference struct nameidata*, struct vnode*, etc. on Snow Leopard. How does DTrace know about these data types? I understand things like #pragma D depends_on library darwin.d where darwin.d has typedefs. I can''t find definitions of nameidata and vnode in any D scripts, though. How does it work? Thanks, Joel --- firefox for android!

RFC: XRay in the LLVM Library
Hi Dean, I haven't looked very closely at XRay so far, but I'm wondering if making CTF (common trace format, e.g. see http://diamon.org/ctf/) the default format for XRay traces would be useful? It seems it'd be nice to be able to reuse some of the tools that already exist for CTF, such as a graphical viewer (http://tracecompass.org/) or a converter library

Definition of "anchored" and "unanchored" probes
Referring to the DTrace manual: "Module If this probe corresponds to a specific program location, the name of the module in which the probe is located. This name is either the name of a kernel module or the name of a user library. Function If this probe corresponds to a specific program location, the name of the program function in which the probe is located." and then ...
