Multiple rails apps with Mongrel
I''m trying to set up several different Rails apps on the same domain, each
one running Mongrel. After reading all of the documentation, it''s fairly
clear how to use subdomains - create several Apache virtual hosts, each of
which has a different ProxyPass and ProxyPassReverse command to redirect
from different ports (ie, 3000, 3100), and then have each Mongrel instance

mongrel lighttpd and ssl
I am wanting to one run instance of lighttpd, many many instances of
mongrel. I also need ssl but only for one of my sites. I understand that
Mongrel does not play with SSL so I am forced to use Lighttpd. I think that
lighttpd only handles ssl or non-ssl on any given instance. Is there a way
for me to accomplish my goal of one lighttpd with multiple mongrels and the
occasional ssl connection?

Rails on IIS
I just spent the last two days trying to get Rails on IIS to work with
Windows 2003/IIS 6.0. I think I''ve finally got it working, but it took
more googling than I care to describe. Now I''ve got a few questions:
1) Is there some ''official'' Rails on IIS guide on this site on another
official ruby site that''s known to work well?
2) If not, can someone

Multiple Rails app on the same server?
I have a rails app on a debian server running lighttpd and I''m trying to
set up typo so that it also works (with a different url). I have 4 URLs
running -- let''s call them foo.com, bar.com, www.typo.com and
php.typo.com
I am starting lighttpd by going into the directory where my foo.com app
is and typing either ruby script/server or script/server -e production

A rails app server, maybe?
Hi all.
Like many of us, I''m currently struggling with Rails deployment. Like
maybe only a few of us, I''m responsible not for one or two webapps but
dozens. Currently, we deploy them as war files using JBoss'' hot
deployment feature, which amounts to copying a war file to a directory
monitored by JBoss. Undeploying the app amounts to removing it from
the directory.

multiple apps one virtual host one domain

Having a development server that runs multiple rails apps running wihout
creating a different virtual host for each apps.
my documentRoot is therefore /var/rails for my whole config
http://myserver/app1/controller/action -> (/var/rails/app1/...)
http://myserver/app2/controller/action -> (/var/rails/app2/...)
I''m under apache 1.3

Multi apps in one Mongrel instance
Hi,
It would be nice if Mongrel would do multiapps in one Mongrel instance.
For the moment, I have one Mongrel for each app of my server, each on a
different port.
For example:
http://server:8080/app1
http://server:8080/app2
instead of:
http://server:8080/
http://server:8081/
Is that planned?
Thanks.

Mongrel Rails - default URI
Is there any particular reason why mongrel rails hard codes ''/'' as the URI
it
registers as the URI node?
If not would there be any objection to a patch that allows you to specify
it as an option?

Apache 2.2, ProxyPass and HTTPS
Hi all,
I''m currently trying to get Mongrel running my app whilst fronted by
apache 2.2 in a sub-directory via https. A bit convoluted I''ll grant
you but necessitated by existing systems.
The pertinent parts of my httpd.conf:
<VirtualHost 123.123.123.123:12345> #historic choice of random port number
DocumentRoot /var/www/admin
ServerName admin.example.com:12345

Mongrel, Apache 2.2, Rails question. HELP!
Sorry to bother you with a Rails "newbie"-like question, but I have been
tearing my hair out for a couple of days with the deployment scenario I am
trying to setup. I use a service provider that supports multiple domains via
Virtual Hosts. I have all the software installed and "working". I want to
deploy two apps under my domain and have the following in my .conf file:

Mongrel HTTP Library 0.2.0 (Fast And RubyForgified)
Hi Everyone,
I''m happy to announce the 0.2.0 release of Mongrel -- the fastest
HTTP 1.1 library Ruby has yet.
http://mongrel.rubyforge.org/ -- ruby docs lame page.
http://rubyforge.org/projects/mongrel/ -- project page.
Special thanks to Tom Copland for setting up my RubyForge goodness,
and to Why for kicking in time to get the Camping examples up to snuff.

Mongrel_rails restart and sudo
Sorry for the newbie question but I''m stumped:
I have an app that requires sudo to run mongrel_rails. For my capistrano
recipe is do it like this:
sudo "mongrel_rails start -e production -p #{application_port} -d -c
#{current_path}"
Which works famously.
Now I have tried several things for my restart task. Here they are:
sudo "cd #{current_path} && sudo

Setup with Apache 2.2 proxy balancer : timeout during uploads
Hi all,
I encounter timeout errors during file uploads in my Rails application.
I think the problem may be in the Mongrel configuration. Here is my setup:
* Load balancer (Cisco CSM, my provider''s Catalyst 6509)
* Apache 2.2.3 with mod_proxy_balancer
* Mongrel 0.3.13.3
* Rails 1.1.6
* Ruby 1.8.4
* MySQL 5.0.22
* file_column
I host an application in which users may upload medium files

Error: Mongrel timed out this thread: too many open files
I just switched to Mongrel, and it''s been working much better than my
previous lighttpd/fastcgi setup. So thanks for the awesomeness.
My current problem: once or twice an hour, I get following error in
production
Mongrel timed out this thread: too many open files
I never get it in testing or on our staging server. Any ideas what would
cause that? It doesn''t *appear*

Mongrel 0.3 -- Runs Ruby On Rails
Hello Folks,
This is the long awaited release of the Mongrel HTTP library that
supports *Ruby On Rails*. I know tons of people have been waiting
for it, so I''ve got a few things to lay down first before you get all
excited:
1) It''s very very ALPHA support for Rails. It will run a Rails app,
and runs my simple apps, but it''s not fast or correct as it needs to

How do you run a rail app from a subdirectory?
I''ve looked everywhere and I haven''t been able to find a solution. I''m
running Apache and I have an app under version control (svn). I want to
be able to have multiple check-outs on one server, and I don''t have to
modify httpd.conf every time I do.
Basically, I envisioned that it would work like this:

Mongrel servers running in a subdirectory behind a proxy
I was able to find some information about this in the list archives,
but it ended with a possible patch being submitted for Mongrel.
I tried to follow a few of the instructions, but I''m still kind of
stuck, since I''m not sure if what I''m seeing is the proper results. I
have an application running on a cluster of mongrel servers, which is

comparison... why mongrel?
Hi,
I''ve recently deployed a rails app and our platform is Apache 2.2 + mongrel
cluster. It seems to be working fine... although no real tests yet. I just
recently found out that it is *quite* possible that the live server will not
be getting an update to apache 2.2, and the current version is 1.3. So...
I''ve installed Apache 1.3 + FastCGI on the dev server and it''s
