variables - data-structure
dear R-friends,
i`ve got a large dataset of vegetation-samples with about 500
variables(=species) in the following format:

1 spec54
1 spec63
2 spec1
2 spec2
2 spec253
2 spec300

this means: sample 1 (grassland) with the species (=spec) 1, 23, 54, 63

data transformation
Dear all,
how can I, with R, transform a presence-absence (0/1) matrix of species
occurrences into a presence-only table (3 columns) with the names of the
species (1st column), the lat information of the sites (2nd column) and
the lon information of the sites (3rd column), as given in the below
example?
Thanks a lot for your help!

reshape dataframe to array (pivot table)
Hello,
I would like to reshape a dataframe into an array. This is kind a similar task as Excel performs with a Pivot table. To illustrate it:
LOC <- factor(c(1,2,2,3,1,1))
SPEC1 <- c(0,0,23,0,12,11)
SPEC2 <- c(1,2,0,0,0,4)
df <- data.frame(LOC,SPEC1,SPEC2) # original dataframe

Randomizing a dataframe
Hi R-helpers,
I have a dataframe (called data) with trees in rows (n=100) and insect
species (n=10) in columns. My tree IDs are in a column called TREE and each
species has a column labeled SPEC1, SPEC2, SPEC3, etc...
I wish to randomize the values in my dataframe such that row and column
totals are held constant, i.e. in my randomized data each tree will have the
same number of individual

Adding header lines to a dataframe that is exported using write.csv
I would like to export a dataframe to a .csv using:
>write.csv(dataframe,"dataframe.csv")
but I need to add four "header" lines to the csv that are not part of
the dataframe (which itself has a line of column headers).
The difficulty (for me, at least!) lies in the requirement that
certain elements of the header (X, Y and the number of "Q"s - please

conditional plot
Hi,
Can anyone pls help me in plotting the following data?
The data-set contains company name, specification-1, specification-2.
The graph would basically plot company name with specification-1
on x-axis, & specification-2 on y-axis.
Simply put - company name should get classified into one of the
four quardrants created by specification 1 & specification2.
Thanks.

Quick start configuration sample for "chan_dahdi.conf"
I am really a beginner of PRI ISDN board, I am wondering if there is a "quick start" chan_dahdi.conf configuration I could use.
I tried to install two "FreePBX" boxes follow the instructions from "http://www.cadvision.com/blanchas/Asterisk/DahdiT1trunk.html" connected them between PRIs, It worked. And now if I refer the FreePBX "chan_dahdi.conf" it looks

Different freq returned by spec.ar() and spec.pgram()
Dear list,
I've recently become interested in comparing the spectral estimates
using the different methods ("pgram" and "ar") in the spectrum()
function in the stats package.
With many thanks to the authors of these complicated functions, I
would like to point out what looks to me like a bit of an
inconsistency -- but I would not be surprised if there is good
reasoning

Proposed speedup of spec.pgram from spectrum.R
Hello,
I propose two small changes to spec.pgram to get modest speedup when
dealing with input (x) having multiple columns. With plot = FALSE, I
commonly see ~10-20% speedup, for a two column input matrix and the speedup
increases for more columns with a maximum close to 45%. In the function as
it currently exists, only the upper right triangle of pgram is necessary
and pgram is not returned by

Problem with ode
Hi,
I am trying to run a 1D nutrient-phytoplankton-zooplankton model in R

P <- state[1:NB]
Z <- state[(NB + 1): (2*NB)]

nested design in lme, need help with specifying model
Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help me with specifying a right model for my analysis. I am a beginner to lme methods and though have spent already many hours studying from various books an on-line helps, I was unfortunately not able to find a solution to my problem on my own.

Problem with zcat uncompressing man pages
Hi
When I read 'certain' -- not all -- man pages zcat writes a small error to stderr when opening the man page; however, the man page does actually open. The message i get on the terminal is:
zcat: error writing to output: Broken pipe
zcat: /usr/local/man/man5/muttrc.5.gz: uncompress failed
When closing the man page, another message is shown on stderr:

lme model: Error in MEEM
Hi,
We have data of two groups of subjects: 32 elderly, 14 young adults. for
each subject we have 15 observations, each observation consisting of a
reaction-time measure (RT) and an activation maesure (betadlpcv).
since we want to analyze the influence of (age-)group and RT on the
activation, we call:
lme(betadlpcv ~ RT*group, data=our.data, random=~ RT |subject)
this yields:

a different ssh::auth problem

I am very new to puppet.
I installed puppet 3.2.3 (open source) on Debian Wheezy. Everything seems
to work fine.
Now I want to setup ssh::auth on the puppet master. The documentation
states that:
"To install ssh::auth, place the file auth.pp<http://projects.reductivelabs.com/attachments/935/auth.pp> (attached

Virtual devices disappear in dladm show-link
Using OpenSolaris 2008.11 build 110.
Created vnic''s and etherstub''s and they are displayed using dladm show-links but when the server is rebooted a ''dladm show-link'' is empty although the vnic and etherstub devices are still there and function properly.
That is a real inconvenience, so why do the no longer show after a reboot or shutdown/start?

dlstat for data link statistics
(Bcc''ed to networking discuss).
Hi All,
Have enclosed man page draft for dlstat(1M) herewith.
This is part of the effort to gain better visibility into network traffic in light of crossbow features like virtual NICs, interrupt vs. polling modes etc. This in turn would greatly assist network performance analysis. It is also aimed at segregating link/flow configuration from
