Diagnosing into server crash
Hi all, can anyone point me to a document that descirbes how to trace into an OS crash under Solaris 10? My hope is to get target-oriented description to figure out the system call and the process/thread that lead to the crash. Regards, Andreas

[GE users] Apple Leopard has dtrace -- anyone used the SGE probes/scripts yet?
Hi, Chris (cc) and I try to get the SGE master monitor work with Apple Leopard dtrace. Unfortunately we are stuck with the error msg below. Anyone having an idea what could be the cause? What I can rule out as cause is function inlining for the reasons explained below. Background information on SGE master monitor implementation is under http://wiki.gridengine.info/wiki/index.php/Dtrace

SMF/process contracts in Solaris 10
I've searched the archive for this mailing list and the bug list for OpenSSH for this, and I'm finding nothing. I'd appreciate it if somoene could point me to an existing thread about this. (I know that other people are aware of the problem, though, so I'm a bit surprised to find nothing.) We're running OpenSSH under Solaris 10 using SMF instead of a legacy init script. SMF

dtrace: failed to grab pid 16537: process is traced
I''m getting an odd behavior while trying to trace a mysql process using the -p flag on a Sun Cluster. This fails # dtrace -n ''pid$target::*mysql_parse*:entry {}'' -p `pgrep -x mysqld` dtrace: failed to grab pid 16537: process is traced Yet this works # dtrace -n ''pid$1::*mysql_parse*:entry {}'' `pgrep -x mysqld` dtrace: description

"\0" gives no warning "unknown escape sequence" (PR#11107)
Full_Name: Volkmar Klatt Version: 2.6.2 OS: linux Submission from: (NULL) (84.147.0.178) Hello, the documentation article ?Quotes from package:base could be improved by discussing the meaning of "\0" escape sequence. In R (currently used: R-2.6.2), a "\0" in a string will silently terminate that string, just as it would in C code. There is no warning about an unknown escape

profile provider: is it me doing stupid things?
Just showing someone how great DTrace is and then we spot something I do not understand. Of course it can be a major misunderstanding of myself. Would appreciate another (expert) look upon this. The goal we try to achieve is trying to get insight if there is a bursty nature in the time slot when system calls are done. Following DTrace snippet is tried: dtrace -q -p 3173 -n

Dtrace starts very slowly on T5440
Hi all, We just got a shiny new T5440, and one of the first things I noticed (besides the insane number of hardware contexts), is that dtrace takes 30 seconds to a minute to fire up scripts with 5-6 probes, where our T5220 usually takes under a second. Shutdown is similar, though slightly faster. This is mostly annoying because it takes so long to attach that it''s hard to tell when

ustack()s of SIGSEGV''ed programs
Hi all, I am trying to write a D script which would print ustack() for every program in the system receiving SIGSEGV. All the stacks printed in trap()/sigtoproc() context do not have meaningful symbols. The following solves the problem to some degree but I''d much rather have a self-contained D script. dtrace -w -n ''fbt:genunix:sigtoproc:entry/arg2 == 11/ {

DTrace as a security tool / http://systrace.org
I''d like to see if we can use DTrace to as the kernel implementation of the BSD systrace security policy system (http://www.systrace.org). I don''t really want to port systrace to Solaris because I think with DTrace we already have all the necessary in kernel hooks to do this. With systrace you express things like: "httpd can bind to port 80 but not any other port, it

Hello, I try to write a bash skript and I want to use the variables from my bash skript into R. Ist that possible? My bash skript creates lots of *.data files. I want forward these files directly into R (in x.data.bz2), so that R creates a few data automatically also in PDF. For example: bash created files: hello.data , world.data how R created these files in pdf? please look my plot.R

ZFS Storage Pool advice
This question is concerning ZFS. We have a Sun Fire V890 attached to a EMC disk array. Here''s are plan to incorporate ZFS: On our EMC storage array we will create 3 LUNS. Now how would ZFS be used for the best performance? What I''m trying to ask is if you have 3 LUNS and you want to create a ZFS storage pool, would it be better to have a storage pool per LUN or combine the 3

Analyzing java class loading with dtrace
Hi there, I am trying to diagnose a performance problem on a Sun T5120 running Solaris 10. I see general poor performance using Java and, in particular, loading classes. I have developed a simple java test that loads all of the classes in a Crystal Reports JAR file (around 7000 classes) which takes much longer on the T5120 (40 secs) than on a Core 2 Duo windows PC (5 secs). I recognise that this

execute command/skript on connection?
Hi all, Is there any way to get a skript or some commands executed on connection(!) of a host (OS is Linux)? I'd like to set a host route on my router (my LAN server running Debian Linux) when my notebook (Debian Linux, too) connects to it. As I understood tinc-up is executed on startup of the tinc-daemon which doesn't fit for me. The hostroute is ONLY to be set if the Notebook is

Clustered standard errors in a panel
I want to do the following: glm(y ~ x1 + x2 +...) within a panel. Hence y, x1, and x2 all vary at the individual level. However, there is likely correlation of these variables within an individual, so standard errors need adjustment. I do not want to estimate fixed effects, but do want to cluster standard errors at the individual level. Is there an automated way to do this? Nothing in
