LatencyTop
I see Intel has released a new tool. Oh, it requires some patches to the kernel to record latency times. Good thing people don''t mind patching their kernels, eh? So who can write the equivalent latencytop.d the fastest? ;-) http://www.latencytop.org/ -- cburgess at qnx.com

failed to resolve SS_TCP_FAST_ACCEPT
Folks, I came across an IPv6 snv_31 network driver problem during testing. I can "ping" an IPv6 address, but when I try and log on to the IPv6 address I get an RPC failure. Not knowing much about dtrace, I thought I would give some of the networking dtrace scripts a try that I found here: http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/dtrace/dtracetoolkit/ (tcptop or any other script in the

tcptop fail to run "Can''t find include file sys/tsol/label.h"
I try to run tcptop in solaris 10 x86 with patch level 125101-04 and I get the following error /usr/include/sys/zone.h line 16: can''t find include file sys/tsol/label.h error. Is there a work around for this problem? -- This message posted from opensolaris.org

DTraceTools Update
Is there any work on keeping DTraceTools up to date with the latest snv builds. These scripts are pretty useful and help get a novice dtrace user like me doing useful work quickly. Specifically the tcp stack tools like tcptop and tcpsnoop don''t work with later OpenSolaris builds. Thanks, Gary -- This message posted from opensolaris.org

expected system load from DTrace scripts/probes
Does anyone out there have any thoughts on the type of load common DTrace scripts would cause on a system if run 24x7? I know "common DTrace scripts" and their underlining probe calls a vague statement. So for the lack of a common and establish set of scripts in the OS, I''ll use the most popular right for my question...the DTraceToolkit from Brendan Gregg. Which by the

What is the 32 GB 2.5-Inch SATA Solid State Drive?
Does anyone know about this device? SESX3Y11Z 32 GB 2.5-Inch SATA Solid State Drive with Marlin Bracket for Sun SPARC Enterprise T5120, T5220, T5140 and T5240 Servers, RoHS-6 Compliant This is from Sun''s catalog for the T5120 server. Would this work well as a separate ZIL device for ZFS? Is there any way I could use this in a T2000 server? The brackets appear to be

iostat and monitoring
Hi gurus, I like zpool iostat and I like system monitoring, so I setup a script within sma to let me get the zpool iostat figures through snmp. The problem is that as zpool iostat is only run once for each snmp query, it always reports a static set of figures, like so: root at exodus:snmp # zpool iostat -v capacity operations bandwidth pool used avail read

Re: virt-v2v slow when running inside the VM
thanks Richard, The experiment was indeed done with nested VM enabled. I am not sure about the internals, but i thought once overlay is setup the 2 main processes are sshd and qemu-img convert (reading data from sshd and doing the conversion) I don't see any of the qemu process running. Initial overlay setup was pretty quick and rest of the time was spent in qemu-img convert operation Suresh

UV fastpath after Crossbow
Hi the Crossbow team, I am testing my UV fastpath bits and I found several issues that need your suggestion: 1. dladm show-usage won''t work if UV fastpath is enabled. Since the link usage data are collected based on the statistics of the mac_client_impl_t, and UV fastpath skips the GLDv3 processing, that won''t be available. I don''t see a solution for this except

Oracle 9 process on Sol 10 container, doing a pollsys, using high CPU
We''re running a Solaris 10 container, with an Oracle 9.2.0.4 database - every 5-10 min, an Oracle process shoots up (using 20% + CPU) and then goes down in CPU %, doing a pollsys (see it via dtruss). I tried using some of the trace scripts in the Dtracetoolkit to see what the process is doing, but without any luck - also tried with the following, but dtrace process goes up to 30%

Changes to HOWTO and maybe Samba Guide for Solaris patches
Sun has changed the organization of their web site a lot over the years, and I just noticed that a URL included in the HOWTO is broken now. Perhaps there are others as well. In section 39.6.2 "Winbind on Solaris 9" (p. 503), Solaris 9 users are directed to download a patch from the following URL: http://sunsolve.sun.com/pub-cgi/findPatch.pl?patchId=112960;rev=14 But the Sun

dlstat for data link statistics
(Bcc''ed to networking discuss). Hi All, Have enclosed man page draft for dlstat(1M) herewith. This is part of the effort to gain better visibility into network traffic in light of crossbow features like virtual NICs, interrupt vs. polling modes etc. This in turn would greatly assist network performance analysis. It is also aimed at segregating link/flow configuration from
