Controller/View Organization (Newbie Question)
Good afternoon all...
First, let me apologize for asking a potentially dumb question. I''m
new to both Ruby and Rails, but I do have a long background in OO
programming and web development.
My question is about how to structure controllers for the various
models which I will need in my application. My data will look
something like this:

Error when adding lines to a plot using the mixed-effect model and metafor package
Hi,
I am a student using R for my final year project, with the metafor package being particularly helpful. I have been following the steps laid out in the manual 'Conducting Meta-analysis in R with the Metafor package' (Viechtbauer, 2010) and applying it to my own data of infected Anopheles mosquitoes across Africa.
In particular, I am attempting to apply a mixed-effect model to my data

symlink and 0.14.3
Hi!
I have a little problem with 0.14.3. I followed the
http://wiki.rubyonrails.com/rails/pages/HowtoUseSymLinksToGraftRailsOntoYourWebsite
but it''s not work.
My rails directory is /home/boci/ujautoszalon and I symlinked the public
dir to /home/httpd/htdocs/ujautoszalon2, but it''s not find the
database.yml file.
Here is the whole log:

Errno::EACCES in Controller / Permission denied
Hello,
I did a seemingly smooth install of ferret, but when I try to add it to
my model, I get an error.
My info:
My rails site: shelikes (a restaurant review site)
My controller: Display
My model: Review
My only line of code added for ferret is:
class Review < ActiveRecord::Base
acts_as_ferret
...( more stuff not related )...
end
Below is the error information. Any thoughts on how

respond_to causes DoubleRenderError?
I have a custom authentication plugin that redirects users to a login
site if they aren''t already authenticated and their session hasn''t
timed out. I had things working fine with straight http requests, but
wanted to add support for ajax requests. I thought this would be a
simple matter of replacing all of my "redirect_to <blah> and return
false" calls with

installing hieraki help
Ahoy,
I tried to install hieraki and it was a big mess.
1) upload_progress module needed to be installed
2) no test/development server configured in the config file so i had to
add those
3) no log directory, had to add that
4) had to install 2 gems (ok fine)
5) once the server started, go to homepage and

Has anyone had any luck using the CalendarHelper plugin at
http://wiki.rubyonrails.com/rails/pages/CalendarHelper recently?
I''m scratching my head over the following error when I look at any page

What happened to mysql connection?
I''ve been using Rails for more than six months and until today I had
no problem with mysql connection.
It''s a Mac OS X 10.4 box having rails installed and updated by gem. I

Here''s my config:

Errno::ENXIO (Device not configured) when using net/https from rails
Cross posting this to the rails list in case it might be rails
specific. I really have no clue on this one. OS is Freebsd 6.1.
I have the following code that creates a https connection from within
a rails controller. Works fine except that if it doesn''t get called
for a few hours it starts throwing an exception until I restart rails
(apache1.3 + scgi). I wonder if something here

inline_template private method `gets' called for false:FalseClass
Hi,
I am new to Ruby ERB and inline_template. Can anyone spot what''s wrong
with this inline_template?
$moddedContent = inline_template("<%= puts gets(nil).gsub(/one
two three/,\"\") /tmp/blah %>")

DRY? Converting Boolean to Yes/No
I have a database column given as:
t.column :change_address, :boolean
The user interacts with this using a checkbox, but wants confirmations to
read:
Change address: Yes
In an isolated case something like:
@obj.change_address ? ''Yes'' : ''No''
Would work fine but this is peppered throughout scads of forms and boolean
fields. The first step I took at DRYing

before_filter work around
Hi All,
I am working on a rails app that has facebook and non-facebook
portions and since facebooker seems to want to resolve to the default
route of "/" i''ve written a little before filter that seems to make
these two exist OK.
def is_facebook_request?
redirect_to(params.merge({ :controller => ''facebook_accounts'' }))

newbie before_filter question
I''ve successfully gotten acts_as_authenticated working. Currently the
before_filter line for my admin screen is like this:
class AdminController < ApplicationController
include AuthenticatedSystem
before_filter :login_required
Only issue I have now is that anyone logged in can access that screen.
I''d like to differentiate between a regular user and

before_filter question
Let''s say I''m using before_filter in my controller:
before_filter :setup
def setup
# do something here
end
Is there any way my setup method can know which action is really about
to be called? Let''s say I want to log out which action is going to be
called, how can I know that in the before_filter method? (My question
is not really about logging,

bypassing verify_authenticity_token before_filter when in facebook
Hi list,
Not sure if this is helpful for anyone but I am working on a Facebook
project where I need bypass the new CSRF protection (built into Rails
2.0) under certain conditions. However, since my project works
outside of Facebook I don?t want to disable the CSRF protection from
requests made outside of Facebook.
Here is a small extension i wrote for the ForgeryProtection module.

Using :except or :only on a before_filter block
Hi all,
How do you use :except or :only conditions on a filter block? I can''t
seem to work out the syntax!
I''m currently doing:
before_filter { |c| c.role_required ''admin'' }
Thanks a lot!

Passing parameters to before_filter methods
I have a method that checks for a given role. I want to write
something in my controllers like
before_filter :check_roles(''admin'')
Which will ensure the current user has the admin role. Is it possible
to pass parameters in this way?
