ZFS/NFS/LDOM performance issues
[Cross-posting to ldoms-discuss] We are occasionally seeing massive time-to-completions for I/O requests on ZFS file systems on a Sun T5220 attached to a Sun StorageTek 2540 and a Sun J4200, and using a SSD drive as a ZIL device. Primary access to this system is via NFS, and with NFS COMMITs blocking until the request has been sent to disk, performance has been deplorable. The NFS server is a

OpenSolaris Sparc Xen boot problem
I am running OpenSolaris build 134 on a T1000 (Sparc). It has been an uphill battle getting this far. Many of the commands I find in the various documentation won''t work for me. ------------------------------------------------------------ steve@t1000:~# pfexec pkg install xvm-gui Creating Plan pkg: ''xvm-gui'' matches multiple packages

xvm no go
Hello all. We''re a pretty traditional old school sun shop w/a few dozen sun boxes from 1999-2004. We''re doing a try and buy on a sun blade 6000 with a couple of 6250 intel blades and a 6320 blade, looking to use multiple chassis to do a consolidation, using ldoms and xvm server with xvm ops center to manage it all. At least that''s our forward looking plan.... to move

zfs list improvements?
To improve the performance of scripts that manipulate zfs snapshots and the zfs snapshot service in perticular there needs to be a way to list all the snapshots for a given object and only the snapshots for that object. There are two RFEs filed that cover this: http://bugs.opensolaris.org/view_bug.do?bug_id=6352014 : ''zfs list'' should have an option to only present direct

Can a guest LDOM discover the identity of the host system?
That is...is there a mechanism provided to do this? As an afterthought, this also applies to non-global zones, although one can stick something in the oem-banner eeprom variable that is identically visible on all the zones, which is not the case on LDOMs. However, that''s not a supported mechanism. Having something that was would be better. Ideal if the same mechanism (on what might or

automatic forced zpool import with unmatched hostid
Hi, since hostid is stored in the label, "zpool import" failed if the hostid dind''t match. Under certain circonstances (ldom failover) it means you have to manually force the zpool import while booting. With more than 80 LDOMs on a single host it will be great if we could configure the machine back to the old behavior where it didn''t failed, maybe with a /etc/sytem

Best practices for zpools on zfs
Suppose I have a storage server that runs ZFS, presumably providing file (NFS) and/or block (iSCSI, FC) services to other machines that are running Solaris. Some of the use will be for LDoms and zones[1], which would create zpools on top of zfs (fs or zvol). I have concerns about variable block sizes and the implications for performance. 1.

Open Solaris on Sparc Virtual Server Options
Hello Everyone, My question is simply what are my best options for successfully installing virtual tools on an Open Solaris OS running on Sparc Architecture. My hardware is a Sun Blade 2500. From what I have read Virtualbox and Xen do not work on Sparc technologies. What options do I have? Thank you in advance for any advice, Dan -- This message posted from opensolaris.org

SXCE 121 Kernel Panic while installing NetBSD 5.0.1 PVM DomU
Hi all! I am running SXCE 121 on a dual quad-core X2200M2 (64 bit of course). During an installation of a NetBSD 5.0.1 PVM domU, the entire machine crashed with a kernel panic. GridEngine-OpenSSH integration
Hi, GridEngine (http://gridengine.sunsource.net, aka. SGE) is an opensource batch system for clusters. They have an integration with SSH: http://gridengine.sunsource.net/project/gridengine/howto/qrsh_ssh.html The idea is that instead of using a modified rsh/rshd, they wanted to OpenSSH. However, in order to provide full job control, they need to add a few hooks in OpenSSH. Question: - Is it OK
