Problem with Install R on Linux Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial Xerus

Ubuntu 20.10
I made the mistake of updating to Ubuntu 20.10 from 20.04 before before debian repo supports 20.10.? This broke RcppParallel and plotly.? Any idea with 20.10 will be available for r-cran-* debian packages? Thanks Frank http://fharrell.com http://biostat.mc.vanderbilt.edu/FrankHarrell Twitter: @f2harrell

Ubuntu 20.10
Hi Dirk, Apologies for the html. I think I'm missing something simple.?? Ubuntu 20.10 uses /etc/apt/sources.list.d to hold repo information and I have this file there: marutter-ubuntu-rrutter4_0-focal.list with contents: deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/marutter/rrutter4.0/ubuntu/ focal main # deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/marutter/rrutter4.0/ubuntu/ groovy main I ran sudo apt

CRAN R 4.0.0 for Ubuntu repos missing r-recommend dependency
Hi Dirk, Thanks for the suggested workarounds. This was just a VM I had spun up so I could test R4.0.0. I'm happy to wait for Michael to fix it when he has time. Ubuntu 20.10
Hi Dirk, I didn't capture the output but using Focal I got an error with RcppParallel trying to open a file that wasn't found, and plotly::ggplot() would not render a ggplot graph. 20.10 is working well for me otherwise. Install R on Ubuntu with libcurl support
Hello, I'm install R from a package off of https://cran.r-project.org/bin/linux/ubuntu/. The install works fine but it does not support libcurl as indicated by executing "capabilities('libcurl')". As such, I cannot install packages from HTTPS sources. How can I install R from a package with libcurl support? Is this possible or do I need to manually build R from source and

Font Size for View()
Hello, I am using Ubuntu 16.04, using the default (Unity) window manager. The font size using View() is way too small on a high dpi monitor. I already use scaling, but View() doesn't seem affected by that. Any suggestions for how I could tweak the font size here? Best, Wolfgang

Please be careful with R 3.4.2 upgrades via CRAN, launchpad, ...
Corrected packages are now on the RRutter PPA ( https://launchpad.net/~marutter/+archive/ubuntu/rrutter) and soon on CRAN mirrors. If you have any issues or questions, please let me know. Ubuntu 20.10
Thanks Dirk - I think I turned off html now. That worked. I had actually "mastered" that a couple of years ago but keep forgetting how to get the latest and greatest r-debian repo. I just had to edit /etc/apt/sources.list.d/c2d4u_team*.list to change groovy to focal. I now see 4448 r-cran-* packages. I'll contact the debian package maintainer about the problem with RcppParallel.

Ubuntu cosmic support
Hi, We noticed that "cosmic-cran35" recently went missing from http://cran.rstudio.com/bin/linux/ubuntu/ (apparently in mirrors as well). Was cosmic support removed? It still seems to be in the readme file. Mark Walker, PhD Computational Biologist Methods Group, Data Science Platform The Broad Institute Cambridge, MA [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

a WSL question with allocation problems
Hello! Hope everyone is staying well. I?m not sure if this is the right list for this question, but here goes. I am using the new experimental WSL on my Windows laptop. It was going well until yesterday. I?m using Ubuntu 20.04. I am starting to get ? error: cannot allocate vector of size 1.3 gb?. I have 32 gb of RAM. I tried using ?unlimit -v 1600000000?, not working. Has anyone else had

Please be careful with R 3.4.2 upgrades via CRAN, launchpad, ...
Please be careful with upgrades to R 3.4.2. To cut a long story short, this has to do with minor internal changes in R 3.4.0 from April which require _some_ packages to be rebuilt. I argued for that approach (ie: incremental, careful, no side effects) within Debian, and lost. The _official_ packages in Debian now carry a new tag r-api-3.4 (as opposed to previous r-api-3) in order to force clean

elpa-ess fails to initialize after update to 18.10 on ubuntu bionic
Chris, For what it is worth, I made two more tests: - on my system 'M-x R' as well as the suggested-in-the-ESS-documentation 'M-x ess-version' both work whether or not I have my ~/.emacs -- so somehow system path must work - I have the .el files in the default directory: /usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/elpa-src/ess-18.10 - They are also symlinked each into

What do you have installed as far as libcurl goes? Would you mind listing your packages and greping for libcurl entries. Perhaps I need some libcurl debs installed when I install r-base? MRutter PPA versioning issue, again
Michael, ESS broke again on my laptop after I upgraded to Ubuntu 18.10. The elpa-ess package seems to be provided multiple times, sadly the one with xenial (16.04) in its name wins ... and breaks the setup. I one for cosmic, I had one from bionic (18.04), but because the names 'wrapped' the 'x' wins over 'b' and 'c'. We had talked about that in the past, it

CRAN R 4.0.0 for Ubuntu repos missing r-recommend dependency
I noticed that R 4.0.0 is now available for ubuntu on CRAN. I attempted to do a clean install on 18.04 using: sudo apt install r-base after adding deb https://cloud.r-project.org/bin/linux/ubuntu bionic-cran40/ to /etc/apt/sources.list. Unfortunately, apt reports that r-recommend is a dependency and it won't be installed. Upon inspecting the R4.0 repos r-recommend is missing not only for
