"ea support = yes" and "map acl inherit = yes"
Hi, I'm running Samba 4.8 servers with Windows ACL enabled shares (following https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setting_up_a_Share_Using_Windows_ACLs). This manual demands to set map acl inherit = yes store dos attributes = yes and requires extended attribute support from the share file system. So far, so good. Now I shall upgrade to CentOS 7.7 which brings Samba 4.9 which changes

NT ACL preservation
Hey, hoping I can get some guidance on how this works. I've got a running samba standalone setup. On one of my shares, I want to preserve the ACL of files as they come from the client (Win 7), in essence acting as a file backup. My setup for this share is currently: valid users = @wheel public = no writeable = yes vfs objects = btrfs acl_xattr # acl_xattr: ignore system acls = yes # map

user.SAMBA_PAI and ACL inheritance
I have just enabled user_xattr on the partition where my samba share is on. Now when I use getfattr I see the extended attribute user.SAMBA_PAI on my files. But ACL inheritance isn't taking place... When I (from within Windows) click on Properties > Security > Advanced an then enable "Allow inheritable permissions..." on a certain file, then the attribute user.SAMBA_PAI

Use ACL over NFS4
I have an NFS4 server exporting a folder, and a Samba server importing that folder which it then turns around and shares over Samba. I would like Windows machines accessing this folder and its sub folders to be properly restricted according to ACLs. The NFS4 server is running CentOS 5.7 and is NFS exporting an EXT4 folder. The Samba server is running CentOS 6.0, and Samba 3.5.4-68.el6_0.2. On the

Samba and NFSv4 ACLs
Hello In the Samba Wiki page "https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/NFS4_ACL_overview" we can read the following: "If you use the Samba vfs module acl_xattr, you can use the full Windows ACL features but you will not be able to manage the ACLs on the OS of the Samba host directly and you will not have the permissions enforced by the filesystem. Samba is doing permission management in

ACLs on a directory on GPFS
Hello, I am using the vfs_gpfs samba module to map ACLs through samba. It works fine on files, but directory ACLs are ignored. Ex: getfacl /sb/share/myplace/ file: sb/share/myplace/ owner: root group: root user::rwx user:afrankel:rwx group::--- mask::rwx other::--- When I try to access this folder in Windows, I get permission denied. The same permissions on a files, I can open it / modify it

windows and nfs4 acls
Hi everyone We're really struggling with nfs4 <--> windows acls. Scenario Samba4 share --> cifs --> win7. No problem Samba4 share --> nfs4 --> Linux. acls not inherited Neither is there inheritance vica versa. e.g. It is not possible to create files with group rw on a umask 0022 nfs4 share. nfs4_setfacl cannot override umask. Using POSIX or windows acls this works

Samba4: use Posix-ACLs only? (ext4 - NFS4+CIFS - Fileserver)
I try to set up a Samba4-based Fileserver in an Samba3-DC enviroment. Filesystem is ext4, CIFS + NFS4 should be provided. The same ACLs should be used over both protocols. With Samba 3 this was possible (using POSIX 1003.1e DRAFT 17 ACLs only) . How can I do the same with Samba 4 ? Posix-ACLs set on the server with setfacl are recogniced on a windows-client. But every change I do on a

acl handling on delete (performance problem)
Hi all, I'm debugging a performance problem for a client. Needless to say, the organisation of their data is such that this problem is really annoying. Here's the situation: Samba 3.0.x PDC in a mixed 9x/nt/xp environment, using acls. When trying to delete a large number of folders from a folder, the 'preparing to delete' stage takes about half hour. It's simple to repeat:

Dealing with permission inheritance for CIFS Windows and NFS Linux clients accessing same data
How can I best handle file & directory permissions & inheritance when accessing the same data on a remote server from Windows clients through a CIFS share and Linux clients through an NFS export? I have Samba AD working and I believe Winbind is working because when I check permissions from the command line, whether locally on the server or a remote Linux client, with ls, getfacl,

ZFS ACL Support
Hello, I am running Samba 3.0.28 on a Solaris 10 8/07 x86_64 machine. Directory services and authentication are provided by MS Active Directory's LDAP and Kerberos. My problem is that, when attempting to add an ACE to a file from Windows (XP, SP2), I get an error saying "Access Denied". The share is a directory on a ZFS filesystem (NFSv4 ACLs). Below is the share definition:

backup posix-acl shares
good day... well just need some good input on how to backup a samba server, and to preserve the posix-acl's.. got 1 pdc and 1 bdc running, but it seems that there isn't a good way to make a backup with acl.. nfs4 doesn't have anny good support for acl's (yet) so i tried to mount a samba share with mount -t smbfs.. no acl's there ?? so please is there a protocol/service that i
