Has_many :through problems -- please help
I''m having a lot of trouble with has_many, :through and could really
use some assistance.
I''ve got a User and Group class. Users can subscribe to groups, and
groups should know who''s subscribed.
I''ve got a join table (group_subscriptions) with group_id, user_id,
and it''s own id element.
Users has "has_many :groups, :through =>

Self-referential many-many joins with :through
I thought I had this nailed but.. now I''m seeing spots..
I''ve included my models below, feel free to ignore them. I''m really
just after an example that works. I couldnt find one on the wiki...
which is fair enough considering Ricks patch:
http://dev.rubyonrails.org/changeset/4022 that fixed them only went
through 5 days ago..

has_many :through with has_many/has_many join models
It seems that using a join model that joins with two has_many''s will
fail to generate proper SQL

belongs_to :semester
has_many :discipline_records, :through => :semester
end
class Semester < ActiveRecord::Base

Self-referential has_many :through relationship
Hi,
I have a self-referential has_many :through relationship setup to
track relationships between users. Basically relationships are
modeled as a join table with an extra column ''relation''.
create table relationships (
user_id integer unsigned not null,
friend_id integer unsigned not null,
relation char(1) not null,
)
--- relations ---
f = friend

save trouble with has_many belongs_to relationship
I have a bit of code in a controller that looks like this:
@current_festival.monitor_preferences.each do |pref|
if pref.user_id == @me.id
pref.preference = params[:monitor_pref]
#pref.save
end
end
@current_festival.save_with_validation(false)
the Festival class has_many :monitor_preferences
the MonitorPreference class belongs_to :festival
In the configuration above, the

has_many :through and belongs_to
I have a relationship where a Show has_many Techs through People. From
what I understand that requires me to put belongs_to Show in the People
model. My problem is that a Tech can belong to many Shows. Is there
any way of solving this besides putting a has_many Shows relationship in
People

counter_cache, has_many and belongs_to
I am a bit confused about counter_cache here. The API docs
http://api.rubyonrails.org/classes/ActiveRecord/Associations/ClassMethods.html
say that only the belongs_to association can take the :counter_cache
option. When I try to use it on a has_many I get an "unknown key(s):
counter_cache" error.
Why would this be the case? belongs_to means that this model has a
field with an id

Creating an object with a nested has_many :through relationship
I have 3 models that define members, groups and the subscriptions: Member,
Group, and GroupMember.

> has_many :groups, through: :group_subscriptions
> attr_accessible :email, :password

belongs_to and has_many
I know this has been rehashed many times, but I don''t get it.
I can''t find it documented to were I understand all the parts. I can
make this work using Rails database design conventions, but in this case
I am not able to do that.
I find examples, but the ones I find do not follow the conventions.
They also do not give enough information to understand what is going on.

belongs_to, has_one, has_many question (again?)
Hi All,
Probably this has been asked numerous times, I apologize already!
Can somebody point me to a good tutorial on how Rails works with
relations?
I know about database design and normalization, I also know about
programming in general (and OOP for that matter).
Only thing I can say is that I''m following the "Four days on Rails"
tutorial by John McCreesh.
He writes

Problems with STI in has_many/belongs_to in Rails 1.1
I have a problem that surfaced in my attempt to upgrade my application
to Rails 1.1.
We have a STI model on the "belongs_to" side of a has_many/belongs_to
relationship. All my unit tests for this model pass, and the
relationships all seem to work fine.
But in my functional tests, I''m getting errors. I''ve traced it back
into the call to the has_many

habtm vs. has_many/belongs_to
In AWDWR David says (pg 232),
"When a Join Wants to Be a Model:
While a many-to-many relation with attributes can often seem like the
obvious choice, it?s often a mirage for a missing domain model. When
it is, it can be advantageous to convert this relationship into a
real model
and decorate it with a richer set of behavior. This lets you
accompany the
data with methods.
As an example,

has_many and belongs_to in rails 2.0.2 (child.Parent) is not working
Hi All
I have 2 models working well in rails 1.2.6 :
class TypeService < ActiveRecord::Base
has_many :Services
end
class Service < ActiveRecord::Base
belongs_to :TypeService
end
I was able to get the name of the service with Rails 1.2.3:
s = Service.find(1)
name_type_service = s.TypeService.name <<-- Now with rails 2.0.2
that doesn''t work
With rails 2.0.2
