Kernel panic - em0 culprit?
Hello, My server is experiencing occasional kernel panics when under moderate load. I'm attaching a crash dump and the dmesg output. I'm not sure how to read the kernel backtrace but it looks like the Intel NIC (em0) caused the problem. Occasionally, I used to get a "em0: watchdog timeout -- resetting" error message, but I never had a kernel panic. The problem started last

vlan0 on em0 has mtu 1496
Why does a vlan created against em0 have a mtu of 1496. This is on 4.8-STABLE (cvsup'd this afternoon). em0: watchdog timeout -- resetting
I am getting these messages every 30 seconds or so. I searched around and found a few other post about this problem with other devices, but no answers to the problem. I didn't notice any of these message until I upgrade to 4.8-RELEASE the other day. This is a dual processor machine. It happens on all my machines that have em devices, which all happen to be dual processor machines. I

shutdown -r / shutdown -h / reboot all hang and don't cleanly dismount
Hello -STABLE@, So I've seen this situation seemingly randomly on a number of both physical 9.1 boxes as well as VMs for I would say 6-9 months at least. I finally have a physical box here that reproduces it consistently that I can reboot easily (ie; not a production/client server). No matter what I do: reboot shutdown -p shutdown -r This specific server will stop at "All buffers

thread taskq / unp_gc() using 100% cpu and stalling unix socket IPC
Hi there We have a pair of servers running FreeBSD 9.1-RC3 that act as transparent layer 7 loadbalancer (relayd) and pop/imap proxy (dovecot). Only one of them is active at a given time, it's a failover setup. From time to time the active one gets in a state in which the 'thread taskq' thread uses up 100% of one cpu on its own, like here: ---- PID USERNAME PRI NICE SIZE

dovecot 1.2.9 crash on subscribe with shared namespace
Hi all I'm testing dovecot to migrate from a cyrus 2.2 With TB2 if I use "subscribe" dovecot crash but only if I enable a shared namespace. Without explicit namespace or only with private namespace "subscribe" works Is this a problem already fixed in 1.2.10? is it a problem of my configuration? I tried different value for location in shared namespace but without any

Optim function with meta parameters
Hi guys. I have a dataset with 4 columns. In the first and second column I have the same qualitative variable referred to different teams of people. There are 10 teams in total and they compete against each other to perform a certain task whose result is stored in the third column for the team recorded in the first column, and in the fourth column for the team in the second column. ZFS Locking Up periodically
I''ve recently re-installed an X4500 running Nevada b109 and have been experiencing ZFS lock ups regularly (perhaps once every 2-3 days). The machine is a backup server and receives hourly ZFS snapshots from another thumper - as such, the amount of zfs activity tends to be reasonably high. After about 48 - 72 hours, the file system seems to lock up and I''m unable to do anything

em watchdog timeout on UP, 6-stable
Updated my Athlon-xp 6-stable system last night, got an em watchdog timeout for the first time a few hours later, during a fairly high-traffic period. System is UP but does have device apic in the config. Any chance this is the recent race condition? Workaround? ifconfig em0 down, ifconfig em0 up seemed to cure it, at least for the moment. Thanks, Barney Wolff -- Barney Wolff I never

em interface slow down on 8.0R
Hi, I noticed that network connection of one of my boxes got significantly slow just after upgrading it to 8.0R. The box has an em0 (82547EI) and worked fine with 7.2R. The symptoms are: - A ping to a host on the same LAN takes 990ms RTT, it reduces gradually to around 1ms, and then it returns to around 1s. The rate was about 2ms/ping. - The response is quite slow, but no packet

gzip compression throttles system?
I just had a quick play with gzip compression on a filesystem and the result was the machine grinding to a halt while copying some large (.wav) files to it from another filesystem in the same pool. The system became very unresponsive, taking several seconds to echo keystrokes. The box is a maxed out AMD QuadFX, so it should have plenty of grunt for this. Comments? Ian

samba-3.0.24 on openbsd: low throughput
greetings list. am serving SMB using the samba-3.0.24 package on an openbsd 4.1-release machine and am seeing really low throughput from the server, even when both the server and client are on gigabit ethernet. the maximum throughput i've been able to attain is ~6 MBps, which is pretty slow, both on 100 Mbps and 1 Gbps segments. this top speed is identical on both 100 Mbps and 1 Gbps.
