Creating Observation ID
If I have a data frame something like: Value=rnorm(30) Group = sample(c('A','B','C'), 30, replace=TRUE) df = data.frame(Value, Group) It seems like it should be simple to create an 'ObsID' column which indicates the observation order of each Value within each of the 3 groups. Somehow, I can't quite see how to do it without manually sub-setting the parent data

some basic questions
I'm seeking a small IMAP server, and dovecat was recommended by those more savvy than me. (The sign on my monitor is "My programming language is solder..") so I'll be getting help to deploy this, but first... I've read through the wiki docs but still have questions, ones likely too obvious for most readers.... There will be <100 users, the platform will Debian, and I

Anything like associative arrays in R?
Let me preface my question by stressing that I am much less interested in the answer than in learning a way I could have *found the answer myself*. (As helpful as the participants in this list are, I have far too many R-related questions to resolve by posting here, and as I've written before, in my experience the R documentation has not been very helpful, but I remain hopeful that I may have

FFT function
Hi, A very simple question. I know that the Fourier transform of a Laplace distribution, with zero mean and variance 2b^2, is equal to 1/(1+(tb)^2). Therefore, the Fourier transform is a positive function (actually is always between 0 and 1). BUT, if I use the fft(alpha) function of R, where alpha is a vector containing 128 values of the probability density function from -2 to 2, I get negative

Zaptel ztdummy module causes playback to fail
I'm using asterisk 1.4.11 and Zaptel version 1.4.5.1 with kernel 2.6.22. I have the ztdummy module loaded, which is using zaptel and rtc. When the ztdummy module is loaded, sounds are not heard when using the asterisk "background" command. When the ztdummy module is unloaded, which also removes zaptel and rtc, sounds are heard. I've also tested this under kernel 2.6.21 with the

Problem with asterisk 1.4.11 and playing files to meetme conference
I am using asterisk Version: 1:1.4.11~dfsg-1 as found in Debian. I'm using a call file to connect a meetme conference to an AGI script which plays files using the stream_file method. I have four files which should play in sequence, though only the first two files actually play. I get these errors in the CLI: [Sep 16 06:20:43] NOTICE[18424]: app_meetme.c:1911 conf_run: Audio bytes: 276 Buffer

portmap & tcpwrappers
I don't know if this is RedHat 5.1 specific, but be aware that the version of portmap distributed is the enhanced (Wietse Venema) version. That's great, except for two things. The first is documented, but easy to overlook: "In order to avoid deadlocks, the portmap program does not attempt to look up the remote host name or user name...The upshot of all this is that only network
