Named routes and current_page? incompatibility
Hi,
I have some named routes defined e.g. map.public and wish to use
link_to_unless_current() to disable link.
However, as I''ve seen from forum discussions and the API doc, the issue
lies with the fact that the named_route_url() method generated by a
named route does not default to only_path = true like url_for.
Therefore, the current_page? within link_to_unless_current() will not

newbie help re: loading data and relationships in migrations
Hi folks,
I''m new to Ruby & Rails, and have been reading the Agile Web dev &
Pickaxe books with much joy!
However, I need some guidance re: using migrations to load in data for
tables that have relationships.
For example, I have one products table and one product_photos table
(defined in separate migration files). The second table has a foreign
key associated with the

from a database?
I have this in my view:
<% @nav_buttons.each do |nav_button| %>
<li><a href="#" class="nav"><%=h nav_button.name %></a></li>

beginner: help using <select> drop down list
Hi, first time posting here. I''m in the process of learning ruby and the
rails framework and i''ve come to a road block. I started off by using
the Onlamp tutorial online and got a test database and all of the
generated scaffold pages. I am currently working on a drop down box
using the select tag. I figured out how to get values from a ''name''

handling navigation tabs - use sessions?
I think this is a fairly easy question done several times in several
languages, but on a traditional ''tab'' based navigation webpage, what''s
the best way to handle the active state?
I am using this in my view:
<% for category in @categories %>
<% if the condition is met to make this the active tab %>
<li><a id=''active''

Navigation techniques, everyone?
I''m rewriting the code to my first app. I want to reuse a lot of it,
but tidy it up a lot. The first thing I will tackle is my nav-bar.
Throughout a user''s experience on my app, I want it to reload as little
as possible (I''ll have about 7 or 8 controllers with about 70 actions).
So, I''ve thought of a few ways of doing it, and was wondering if you

Navigation menu
I have a navigation menu that contains a link per controller in my
application.
This menu is the same for all controllers, but I want this behaviour:
<a>Users</a>
<span>Statistics</span>
and
<span>Users</span>
<a>Statistics</a>
depending on the page you''re currently on.
I''ve put a <render :partial =>

Site Navigation With Polymorphic Has Many Through
Hi, seem to keep running into a wall here. I can''t find any resources on
site navigation that can deal with any model being in the nav, allow
nesting, and can dynamically update.
So I thought about it for a while, and decided on a MenuItems class, which
contained the position of the child in relation to it''s siblings, where the
parent and the child were polymorphic. Then a given

Navigation Helper
I am attempting to integrate a main navigation section into my web
application. Naturally the easiest and DRY way to do this would be to
either include it in a layout, or as a partial. The only problem is
that I want the link for the current page to have its own css id
("current"). The only way I can think to accomplish this is to just
include the navigation in every page, but this is

enhanced multidimensional scaling?
Dear R list
Would anyone be able to tell me whether it is possible to do "enhanced
multidimensional scaling" (enhanced MDS) in R? In other words, something that
goes beyond "cmdscale" by iteratively improving the fit between observed
dissimilarities and inter-object distances, using the KYST algorithm
(Kruskal, 1964).
I have found several implementations of non-metric MDS

Samba team,
I posted the following message on May 30 to comp.protocols.smb, but no one
has responded to the posting as of yet, so I thought I'd try this email

our UNIX box in samba (v2.2.3a). Winbind is working correctly. Wbinfo

When I try

the GUI crashes.

replacing values in a vector
Dear helpRs
Does anyone have an elegant way of doing the following:
For a given numeric vector, e.g. vec <- c(3,2,6,4,7)
Create a series of vectors where all but 1 of the values are replaced by
0's, e.g.
vec.a <- c(3,0,0,0,0)
vec.b <- c(0,2,0,0,0)
vec.c <- c(0,0,6,0,0)
vec.d <- c(0,0,0,4,0)
vec.e <- c(0,0,0,0,7)
I have looked at `replace', but can't think of a

error bars on barplots
Hello again
I'm trying to put error bars onto a barplot. I've tried something that
Bill Simpson suggested a while ago, ie:
x<-c(1,2,3,4,5)
y<-c(1.1, 2.3, 3.0, 3.9, 5.1)
ucl<-c(1.3, 2.4, 3.5, 4.1, 5.3)
lcl<-c(.9, 1.8, 2.7, 3.8, 5.0)
plot(x,y, ylim=range(c(lcl,ucl)))
arrows(x,ucl,x,lcl,length=.05,angle=90,code=3)
#or
segments(x,ucl,x,lcl)
but I can't get it to work on a
