Problem with dump stalling
Hi
If I have the wrong list please feel free to redirect me.
I'm running 7.0-RELEASE-p4 and trying to backup to an external USB
drive.
I'm using the following command
dump -a0Lf /backup/diskimages/root /dev/mfid0s1a
Where df:

/dev/mfid0s1a 507630 208436 258584 45% /

UNEXPECTED SOFT UPDATE INCONSISTENCY; RUN fsck MANUALLY

Sep 21 08:57:54 belle fsck: /dev/ad4s1d: UNEXPECTED SOFT UPDATE INCONSISTENCY; RUN fsck MANUALLY.
Ok, so I ran fsck manually (even with -y), but yet it refuses to clear/fix
whatever to the questions posed as fsck runs. What does this all mean?
Thanks,
-Clint

Multi-machine mirroring choices
With the introduction of zfs to FreeBSD 7.0, a door has opened for more
mirroring options so I would like to get some opinions on what direction
I should take for the following scenario.
Basically I have 2 machines that are "clones" of each other (master and
slave) wherein one will be serving up samba shares. Each server has one
disk to hold the OS (not mirrored) and then 3 disks, each

mystery: lock up after fs dump
I wouldn't report this if not for one coincidence (which is described
below). I have too little facts, so this is more of a mystery problem
tale than a real problem report.
There are two systems:
1. old, slow, i386, UP, 7-STABLE
2. new, fast, amd64, MP, 6.3-RELEASE
Systems are located at different physical locations.
What is common between them:
1. they both have the same backup strategy

System deadlock when using mksnap_ffs
I've been playing around with snapshots lately but I've got a problem on
one of my servers running 7-STABLE amd64:
FreeBSD paladin 7.1-PRERELEASE FreeBSD 7.1-PRERELEASE #8: Mon Nov 10 20:49:51 GMT 2008 tdb@paladin:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/PALADIN amd64
I run the mksnap_ffs command to take the snapshot and some time later
the system completely freezes up:
paladin# cd /u2/.snap/

Problem with /boot/loader
Hello,
I have a problem with loader. I recently upgraded from 6_rel to 7_rel.
Now when I install world there is a problem booting.
Here is what I do:
cd /usr/src
make buildworld
make buildkernel KERNCONF=BLACK
make installkernel KERNCONF=BLACK
At this point I can reboot and all is good. After boot I install the new world:
cd /usr/src
mergemaster -p
reboot into single user mode
cd /usr/src
make

dueling (s)printf()'s - what's the cure?
Hello All,
I mentioned a problem with this once before, and was referred to
other threads that also talked about this. But I believe a recent
problem I was experiencing, may have been related to this:
[: -le: argument expected. So I'd like to bring it up again, in
hopes that someone might have a cure. Specifically, two printf()'s
are sent to the same line, which results in a /very/ hard

fxp multicast forwarding problems
Hi,
Whilst doing some QA work on XORP on my desktop, which has fxp0 and
msk0, fxp0 got totally hosed.
I was running PIM-SM and IGMPv2 router-mode on the box at the time.
I wonder if this is related to the problems with fxp multicast
transmission I saw back in April.
I'm a bit concerned about this as fxp is still a very widespread and
useful network chip.
I am running

Hardware monitoring for Intel Atom D945GCLF.
Hi,
Is there a way to make use of hardware monitoring on Intel 945GCLF
(with Atom 230 cpu)?
It is relatively new child of Intel, but maybe someone figured it
out yet.
pciconf -lv shows this:
ichsmb0@pci0:0:31:3: class=0x0c0500 card=0x464c8086 chip=0x27da8086

Suspend/resume on IBM X31
Greetings
I am having trouble with suspend/resume on my Thinkpad X31, running
7.0-STABLE as of April 23. Any help would be appreciated.
First problem: When I run "acpiconf -s3" from mulituser mode, the
system suspends immediately, without executing /etc/rc.suspend (which
has mode 755); then on resume, I get a panic.
Second problem: When the system panics, I don't get a dump (or

[PATCH 001/001] Add UFS1/2 support to Extlinux installer.
It's needed to enumerate both UFS1/2 since they have different magic numbers
and super block offsets.
Besides, UFS2 can be installed in the 0-64k range like BTRFS, whereas
UFS1 can't.

nfe driver 6.2 stable
Hi I installed the following driver.
http://www.f.csce.kyushu-u.ac.jp/~shigeaki//software/freebsd-nfe.html
Before I had the nve driver which was unstable on this server and on a
prior server in both cases causing either spontaneous reboot or just a
crash when under load.
So far touchwood the nfe driver has stayed up and running at almost 3
days uptime and has had some stress.
I know the driver

[PATCH v2 0/2] UFS1/2 support series
From: Raphael S. Carvalho <raphael.scarv at gmail.com>
Change since v1:
* Fix bug on dentry structure (thank you specification; btw, sarcasm), and
consequently a bug on ufs_readdir.
* Add readlink support (applied tests for symlinks whose destionation path
were stored in blk pointers and the file itself).
* Several improvements.
Wrote the documentation below. I think it would be good to
