self signed ssl cert on C5
Hi,
Does anyone have a pointer to correct documantation for generating and
installing a self signed ssl cert for use on httpd on a C-5 machine?
The docs say to use genkey but AFAIK upstream rm'd crypto-utils from the
distro and as such it is not available. I tried generating the cert on a C-4
machine using genkey and installing on the C-5 machine but I get the following
error when I try to

wbinfo problem
Hi all,
I am trying to setup a samba pdc using the "making users happy" example from
Samba-by-Example. Everything seems to check out fine except that I cannot get
wbinfo -u to work. When I do wbinfo -g I get a list of the groups. If I do
wbinfo -u I get the following:
(pocono pts4) # wbinfo -u
Error looking up domain users

I tried turning up the logging for samba but

hardware raid vs fake raid
Hi,
Does anyone know how I can find out if an ibm serveraid 8k sas storage
controller (zero channel RAID) is a real hardware RAID controller and
supported in the standard CentOs kernel or is it a fake raid controller.
I am trying to decide if I should get the serveraid controller or go get
a 3ware controller.

centos and apache DOS question
Hi,
I have a centos 4.4 box running Apache serving up web pages. One of my customers
has a marketing firm that once a week pulls all of the content so that they
can do their thing.
When they do this the box stops serving web pages. The load goes to 0.0 and
top shows almost no memory free. The box does not swap nor do I get OOM to
kick in. Normally the box has about 20-30 httpd processes running

Quota question.
Hi,
I am trying to get quota working properly on dovecot 1.2.3 with postfix admin,
amavisd-new, mysql, and postfix.
So far I can see the db getting updated when messages are added and deleted
from the mailbox. The problem I am having is that I have imported a bunch of
messages from the old mail server that was running uw-imap and mbox to the
doevcot machine using maildir++. As a result the

5.2-5.3 Xen upgrade weirdness
Hi,
Has anyone tried upgrading xen domu's from 5.2 to 5.3? I just did a
yum upgrade glibc & yum upgrade yum. All appeared to go well but when I
rebooted and tried to connect to the network, I could not. Looking at
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts I see that the that there is now an ifcfg-eth0
and an ifcfg-eth0.bak. ifcfg-eth0 now contains configuration for a dynamically

CentOS 4.4 on mini-itx
Hi,
I have a EPIA mini-itx board that I have been running Fedora 4 on. I want to
install CentOS 4.4 on it since FC4 is no longer supported. The install goes fine
but when I reboot the machine after the install I get errors like the following:
hda:<4>hda: dma_timer_Expiry : dma status == 0x21
There are other errors about not being able to access the disk and eventually
the kernel panics.

Centos-release srpm
Hi,
Does anyone know where I can get centos-release-5-4.el5.centos.1.src.rpm?
I have looked on several mirrors and that one seems to be MIA. Even Google
does not seem to know where it is.
I need it so I can rebuild it with my local yum repos in it.

SSl Certificate problem
Hi,
I have a c4 server that I am trying to migrate an ssl site over to a new C5

as advertised on the C4 server. When I move it over to the C5 machine I get

VT-x or AMD-V capable machines
Does anyone know how to tell if a machine is VT-x or AMD-V capable before I buy
it? I have read some mailing list stuff that even if the processor is capable,
sometimes it is disabled in the BIOS, with no way to enable it. I think HP
was/is doing this.
Can anyone shed some light on the current situation wrt this?

Resize iscsi partitions?
Hi,
I have a c5 machine with a 3ware controller in it that I am using for iscsi
targets. The iscsi target is built on lvm. The client then sees it as /dev/sdb1.
If I put a gpt partition on it and try to shrink it I loose the partition table.
If I expand it gparted complains with the following warning:
"Not all of the space available to /dev/sda appears to be used, you can fix the
GPT to use

NTLM auth fails after upgrade to centos 5.6
Hi,
I upgraded a working centos5.5 with squid using ntlm auth to centos 5.6 today.
After doing so squid failed to authenticate. Downgrading samba3x to
samba3x-3.3.8-0.52.el5_5.2 got things working again.
In the squid config I have,
auth_param ntlm program /usr/bin/ntlm_auth --helper-protocol=squid-2.5-ntlmssp
in the squid config and this was working until the upgrade.
testparm shows no errors

Dovecot 1.2.5 segfaults.
Hi,
I just updated to dovecot 1.2.5 on centos5.
1.2.4 did not show this problem. I am going to roll back for the time being
but I am willing to do whatever I need to to fix this.
This is an x86_64 system. filesystem is ext3.
I am now seeing the following in the logs:

Problems connecting to APC/Smart-UPS 3000 RM
Hi all,
I have an APC/Smart-UPS 3000 RM that I am trying to connect to nut via the usb
port. I have nut running just fine on several other machines using APC ups's
via the serial ports but this usb thing is making me crazy.
If I do a "/sbin/newhidups -u root -D -a PS1" it recgonizes the ups and dumps
a bunch of information like below:
(porky pts12) # /sbin/newhidups -u root -D -D

Dovecot stops talking to the auth server.
Hi,
I have an RHEL4 machine running dovecot-1.0.3 + postfix-2.3.2 +
postfixadmin + mysql-4.1.20-2.RHEL4.1 + amavisd-new-2.5.2-1.
The machine only has a gig of memory in it, I am trying to keep it
running until I get new hardware to replace it in a couple of weeks.
For the most part it works as advertised but every once in a while it
stops talking to the auth server. I think I have tracked this

lost+found missing, Bug or feature?
Hi,
I noticed that some of my ext3 partitions have a lost+found directory
and some do not. Which is correct? mke2fs -j makes the lost+found
but after a fresh install of 7.2 there are no lost+found on
partitions that were formatted. I want to make them all the same but
I am not sure which is correct. I do not plan on going back to
ext2 but.........

setroubleshoot w/o X?
Hi,
I recently discovered setroubleshoot, a wonderful tool that helps
diagnose and resolve selinux problems, even if you really do not
understand selinux. I need to read up on selinux and get to where
I understand it much better.
I'm wondering if there is a text only version of setroubleshoot that
runs on a minimal server configuration without X installed?
