I assume you want the 'v' variable in panel.abline() to be interpreted in the context of your x-axis, which here represents a factor variable. Unless two factor variables have the same

Setting the colors of lines in a trellis plot...
With some help from those with expertise on this list, I managed to produce a plot using trellis that looked like I wanted it to look. Now, I need to take the same plot and make the lines on it color, but I want to specify the color for the lines myself. I've managed to make the key use the colors I want. I've managed to make the symbols of the actual plot use the colors I want. But I

SAS-like method of recoding variables?
Dear R-helpers, I am helping a SAS user run some analyses in R that she cannot do in SAS and she is complaining about R's peculiar (to her!) way of recoding variables. In particular, she is wondering if there is an R package that allows this kind of SAS recoding: IF TYPE='TRUCK' and count=12 THEN VEHICLES=TRUCK+((CAR+BIKE)/2.2); Thanks for any help or suggestions you might be able

maptools, filename writing shapefiles

label_wrap_gen question
Hi, all I am trying to use the label_wrap_gen function in this website. https://github.com/hadley/ggplot2/wiki/labeller I tried to make a long name like this Light and heavy good vehicles (diesel) -\nGVX f2 = facet_grid(vehicle ~ ., labeller=label_wrap_gen(width=15)) eventually, I got something like this in my label... *Light and heavy good vehicles (diesel) - GVX* I suppose the

right justify right-axis tick values in lattice
How can I right justify the right-axis tick values? They appear in the example below as left-justified. I have tried several different ways and all fail in different ways. The example below creates the right axis tick value with no attempt at adjustment. alternates I have tried are 1. formatting the values. This doesn't work because they are in a proportional font and the blanks are too

Plotting three time series on the same graph
Dear R Users, I would like to plot three time series on the same graph, two axis on the left and one axis on the right. The time series that I am graphing on the left do not share a similar scale: one has a range of 1:100 and the other a range of 25000:70000. How can I display the tick marks for both on the left hand side without superimposing them, i.e. one set of tick marks in black right

new versions of grid and lattice
Hi There are new versions of the grid and lattice packages on CRAN: grid 0.2 and lattice 0.3-0 These packages are still _under development_ (they are in CRAN/src/contrib/Devel) There have been some bug fixes and, especially in lattice, there are lots of new features. Descriptions of the changes are included below. If you have any grid code, it may break under the new version because of a

502 bad gateway on nginx with recv() failed
Hi, I''m serving the puppetmaster application with its config.ru through unicorn - proxied by nginx. I''m using unix sockets, 4 workers, and 2048 backlog. The clients - after their typical "puppet run" - send back a report to the master in YAML. Some clients whose reports tend to be large (close to 2mb) get a 502 bad gateway error and error out. nginx log: 2010/10/22

PROC MIXED RANDOM equivalence in R nlme
I am trying to reproduce some old SAS PROC MIXED code using R and nlme. The data consists of emission readings from vehicles and fuel properties. All variables are real numbers except "study" and "vehicle", which are character. Unfortunately, since the data are confidential, I'm unable to provide an example. The original SAS v6.12 code is provided below:

PROC MIXED RANDOM equivalence in R nlme
Dear Dennis, Your question assumes that people know both SAS PROC MIXED and R nlme. Only a limited number of people do. Add the mathematical formulation of the model. That will increase the number of people that can help you. Adding the number of levels in each categorical variable and the number of observation per group is useful too. Best regards, ir. R CMD check says no visible binding for global variable
I have written a function which returns an SQL query result as a data.frame. Each column of data.frame is a variable not explicitly defined. For every column name, R CMD check says ?no visible binding for global variable <name>. Status: 1 NOTE Is it possible to tell R CMD check that these variables are OK?
