Running specs for a plugin - undefined method ''define'' for object
I''m trying to write specs for a plugin I''m developing named audit_fu, and I''m running into a problem which I can''t get past it. I''ve got the same specs setup in the main rails app, and everything works fine there, it''s just running the plugin specs that I''m having a problem with. My setup is: - edge rails - edge rspec (in

problems with textmate and rspec bundle
Folks, I saw David''s tutorial yesterday at RailsConf and started working on RSpec lastnight and am having a *ton* of trouble with the bundle for TextMate. I''ve made *some* progress, but thought I''d throw it to the list * I run ruby, including rb-rubygems using the MacPorts install (per JDD''s Sandboxing Rails) * installed rspec 0.9.4 (also rcov 0.8.0.2 and

shared descriptions -- a couple of issues
Hello All, I''ve just upgraded to rspec/rspec_on_rails 0.9.3 and am very excited about shared descriptions. They couldn''t have come at a better time: I just finished refactoring some REST controllers so that the bulk of the actions are inherited from a superclass. Now I can write the specs once, too. :) I''ve hit a couple of snags, though. I thought I''d

Does mock_model''s :null_object option work?
Please understand in the following that I am making relatively minor changes to legacy (non-TDD/BDD) code in Substruct and don''t have the time to refactor nicely right now. I''m just trying to get past the untested/un-speced cruft quickly to write the spec for my new code, so I''m looking for expediency over prettiness. I''m specifying before( :each ) do

PUT- or POST-ing xml
I''d like to write a test of a REST service wherein XML is submitted as the request entity. In Test::Unit on Rails, this seems to be possible in an integration test, but not in a functional test. RSpec uses the Rails functional test framework, as far as I can tell, so it suffers the same result; it tries to symbolize the keys of the ''parameters'' hash, except the

I can''t make RSpec 1.0.8 run in Rails 1.2.3
I followed the directions on the site: ruby script/plugin install svn://rubyforge.org/var/svn/rspec/tags/CURRENT/rspec ruby script/plugin install svn://rubyforge.org/var/svn/rspec/tags/REL_1_0_8/rspec_on_rails ruby script/generate rspec And apparently everything was ok. But when I do a "rake spec" on the app folder none of the Rails models are visible. Here is the error: (in

RSpec view spec writing problem (unable to generate url_for in RESTful resource link_to)
Thanks, first, to everyone who''s asked and answered questions on this list, and to the creators of RSpec - it is all very helpful. I''ve searched the mailing list, and had a couple 2hr googling sessions that didn''t help me find an answer. I''ve run into a problem getting my first non-trivial view spec to run. I get an error when trying to generate a link_to()

How to test views with Nested Resources and Partials
Hi everyone, I am relatively new to rspec and I am running into a wall in testing my views. I have a RESTful resource Contracts with a nested resource of Line_items. I am trying to figure out how to test the "edit" form of the Line_items. What complicates this is the nested routing and how to account for it, and that there is a partial form (_form.haml) that both the edit.haml and

Could anyone please help with rspec/nested resource behavior checking?
My problem has been listed here: http://railsforum.com/viewtopic.php?pid=25439#p25439 Don''t think it would be required to completely re-type it here :) Thanks! -- -Daniel Fischer http://danielfischer.com - Geek Blog http://abigfisch.com - Portfolio http://writersbeat.com - Writing Community

mocking errors
What is the correct way to mock out the errors on a Rails model? I''m assuming i need to say @mock_thing = mock_model(Thing) @mock_thing_errors = mock("errors") @mock_thing_errors.should_receive(:full_messages).and_return("An error") @mock_thing.should_receive(:errors).and_return(@mock_thing_errors) Just wanted to check the best practice on this kind of thing and how

Am I missing something with Heckle?
Hi I can''t get heckle working. In fact, I''ve built an example so simple that it either shows a bug, or I am being really, REALLY stupid. Heckle does not appear to support RSpec directly, so I''m trying to use spec --heckle (RSpec trunk as of 10 mins ago, Heckle 1.4.1). I''ve constructed this pair of sample files: 18> ~/Desktop/heckle_test % cat

Fresh rspec on rails install blows up
Hi there, I installed the rspec on rails plugin for a new project today and guess what -- it blows up! All by other rspec on rails projects are working fine. I updated all gems & still no joy. Any ideas how I can troubleshoot this one ? Here''s my setup: - ruby 1.8.4 (2005-12-24) [powerpc-darwin8.7.0] - Rails 1.2.5 Installed with svn: ruby script/plugin install

Mocking Models in Controller Specs...
I find myself doing this kind of thing a lot in Controller Specs: @vacancy = mock_model(Vacancy) @vacancy.stub!(:reference) @vacancy.stub!(:title) @vacancy.stub!(:created_at) @vacancy.stub!(:updated_at) @vacancy.stub!(:body) @vacancy.stub!(:contract) @vacancy.stub!(:location) @vacancy.stub!(:salary) @vacancy.stub!(:benefits)

textmate bundle
Does anyone else have issues running rspec textmate bundle? I''ve got revision 2997, but the blasted thing just won''t run. It is checked out to my /Users/zdennis/Library/Application Support/TextMate/Bundles/RSpec.tmbundle When it runs I get the below error... "textmate" is not a valid class name

template.expects_render?
Hi All, I''m trying to make use of template.expects_render, is outlined in David''s post(http://blog.davidchelimsky.net/articles/2007/06/28/ template-expects_render). I get an undefined method error on expects_render. I made sure I had the 1.0.8 gem as well as reinstalling the plugin and redoing the bootstrap. Still no luck. So I created a clean project, installed the

RSpec seems to be having a hard time loading Helper classes
I am getting the error when I run the command: rake spec This is a new project with not current test written besides the ones auto-created for me. +++++++++ $ rake spec (in /Users/chrisolsen/Projects/Rails/chrisolsen/trunk) /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activesupport-1.4.2/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:266:in `load_missing_constant'': uninitialized constant ProjectsHelper

Rspec not loading fixtures
I am taking over a code base and am trying to run the tests. I am somewhat new to RSpec so this might be a trivial problem. Basically I can tell that the fixtures are not getting loaded. All 100 tests fail with a similar error. But I don''t know why. Below is the code, with my narrative with *** before it... Can you see anything or give me a clue where to look. So far I am coming up

How to define request.domain in when testing
Hi, My application relies on request.domain for doing its job. The problem I am encountering, is that when running tests, request.domain returns "test.host", how can I change that so that it returns "mysite.com"? Thanks in advance. -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

1.05 to 1.08
Hi We are looking at moving a project over from 1.05 to 1.08 but have a problem with some of our helper specs They work fine in 1.05 but error in 1.08 and it is the calls to route helper methods that seems to be the problem. I did some playing around .. because the code being tested is reasonably large etc ... but this sample (using the peepcode app) seems to boil down the problem
