Permissions issue on domain member server (samba as an appliance)
These are my notes. I?d rather use xattr and configure shares from windows.
http://samba.bigbird.es/doku.php?id=samba:configuring-shares
Also, have you assigned privileges ?
http://samba.bigbird.es/doku.php?id=samba:server-privileges
Using autorid as the idmap backend has some limitations. I recommend using rid.
Regards.

Permissions issue on domain member server (samba as an appliance)
Hey Rowland,
Hmmm. I may have misunderstood. I don't believe it explicitly said to do
that but I took it as that. Should I create a local Administrator account
instead?
Thanks,
Greg

Permissions issue on domain member server (samba as an appliance)
OK I found an account with RID 500 but it has another username. I
inherited this AD from 15+ years ago. Everything looks fine, all the
computer management stuff works and I can manipulate permissions and
security BUT running robocopy still gives "Error 1314 Copying N
TFS Security to destination Directory ********* A required privilege is not
held by the client". I just noticed it does

Administrator is a built in account in the AD. When you provisioned the domain with a password , that was Administrators password.

Choosing a backend idamp and example scenarios for each one
hi,
Knowing the 3 idmap backends (ad, rid and autorid) available to configure
samba as a domain member, could you give examples of scenarios in which
each backend would be more suitable?

Permissions issue on domain member server (samba as an appliance)
Hey Rowland,
Sorry, I'm thick. I understand why you would not want to create a linux
user called Administrator but then where will the credentials come from? In
my AD, I do not have a user called Administrator. I guess I must have a
user with RID 500 though, I'll look for that.
Thanks for your help,
Greg

Blackfin inline assembler and VisualDSP++ toolchain

I guess that's because speex has pretty big memory footprint.
So developers that integrate speex tend to have plenty of RAM and once one has plenty of RAM he could install biggish OS. And between biggish OSes for Blackfin the most popular choice is uCLinux. And ucLinux works best with gnu tools. Something

The whole idea behind the user map on a Unix domain member is to map
the Domain Administrator account (RID 500)

Files larger than 1GB fail to copy
I have a QNAP TS-410 NAS on which I have some CIFS shares. I'm trying to
copy some biggish files from a Lunix machine to the CIFS share on the NAS
but have runs into problems. I've created files of various sizes and I've
found that I can copy files up to size 1024MB to the CIFS share on the NAS,
but when I try to copy anything larger than that the copy command hangs
forever and nothing

function to filter identical data.fames using less than (<) and greater than (>)
Esteemed UseRs,
I've got many biggish data frames which need a lot subsetting, like in
this example:
# example
eg <- data.frame(A = rnorm(10), B = rnorm(10), C = rnorm(10), D = rnorm(10))
egsub <- eg[eg$A < 0 & eg$B < 1 & eg$C > 0, ]
egsub
egsub2 <- eg[eg$A > 1 & eg$B > 0, ]

I think that is significant, even if the routing is still going through the

File timestamp issue
I am not convinced that it's a Samba issue, but someone might be able to
answer anyway
We replicate directories and files from a Windows 2019 server to two
destinations, both are supposed to be used in case of a disaster, but are
also used for some specific tasks. One of the replication targets is a
physical Windows 2012 server and the other one an Ubuntu/Samba virtual
machine. The Samba VM

Choosing a backend idamp and example scenarios for each one
Thank you all!!!! Great content!!!
Speaking of scenarios... What would be the best backend for?
Scenario 1:
3 DCs and 1 fileserver
2800 users
Scenario 2:
4 DCs and 2 fileserver
2800+ users

rsync parameters errors
In my new bash script, I'm doing what I think is a very simple rsync
command the way I'm used to doing it. I just do a lot of setup and
checking before I get to it.
When I run it, it gets very unhappy with me. It's probably something
very simple.
I need to build the rsync command in a string so that some things can go
away - like if my variables DRY_RUN and DELETE are undefined,

Album art - requirements
Hi,
[ Was away the last few days, so this partly overlaps on things that
that have been mentioned in this thread. Since the consensus seems
that Vorbis comment encoding is the way to go, it's a bit moot, but
here it is anyway ]
Following up on the possibility to tag various images as different
types of album art, I thought of adding that tagging information in
a Skeleton stream. Since

Internal DNS strangeness in 4.1.16
Hi,
? I have just provisioned a new samba setup with 2 DCs running ISC DHCPd in failover and I?m trying to get it to play nice with samba internal DNS but I?m having some issues.
1) I?m using on commit, etc triggers in the dhcpd config to call a script that calls samba-tool to add, delete or update DNS. This script works fine when I call it from the command line as the dhcpd user but when called

loop over large dataset
Hi All,
I'd like to ask for a few clarifications. I am doing some calculations
over some biggish datasets. One has ~ 23000 rows, and 6 columns, the
other has ~620000 rows and 6 columns.
I am using these datasets to perform a simulation of of haplotype
coalescence over a pedigree (the datestes themselves are pedigree
information). I created a new dataset (same number of rows as the
pedigree

Robocopy, archive bit and ACLs
Hello,
I'm attempting to set up a daily Robocopy task on a Windows Server 2016
to duplicate a large directory tree -- including data, timestamps and
ACLs -- to a Samba 4.5.12 server.
This is my Robocopy command:
Robocopy.exe C:\source \\foo\bar /XA:SH /XJ /MIR /NODCOPY /COPY:DTSO
/A+:A /ZB
I noticed that for a significant number of files, Robocopy will
systematically identify them as
