samba on distro...
Hi,
I have to setup a samba-server (and a bit intranet) for a school.
There are about 200 client-pc's for about 1000 people.
Now I wondered which OS would be best for us. Should we pay for a
distro, or would a free distro be enough? And which distro should we
use? Please keep in mind that schools like quality and don't like big
bills! ;-)
thanks in advance for any answer,

hardware question
I recently asked this question, but I didn't get an answer on this part
of my question:
What hardware would be able to do this with ease:
I must install a samba server as PDC for my school. The server would
authenticate users using openldap (on the same server). And if possible,
I would also run an intranet on it (apache, php, mysql).
There would be about a hundred (maybe 150 later on)

Help with error - uninitialized constant AuthenticatedSystem::Base64
I am using restful_Authentication plugin combined with the built-in
http_basic authentication Rails 2.0.2
The following code in my controller seemed to work fine,
1. before_filter :authenticate
2.
3. def authenticate
4. case request.format
5. when Mime::XML, Mime::ATOM
6. if user = authenticate_with_http_basic { |name,

[Stories] Login and subdomain
I''ve just begin using rspec stories, and i m encountering some
problems. In my application i have different subdomains in which
specific users can log in, for example an admin will go to
admin.myapp.com/authenticate/login, and an user belonging to a
specific company will log in company.myapp.com/authenticate/login, and
of course both have a different login process.

should_receive twice and arguments
Hi all, I have a method calling Klass.create! two times with different
arguments (this happens in a class reponsable for reading in a csv file)
I want to test those like this:
in one test: Klass.should_receive(:create!).with(:name => "foo").once
in another: Klass.should_receive(:create!).with(:name => "foo2").once
This doesn''t work because the

be_success misleading
Just wondering if anyone else thinks that ''response.should be_success'' is
potentially misleading. If you''re writing a spec for an action that is
failing in some way it can still have a status 200. So while the
HTTP request was technically successful, something in the action
was not. Perhaps something like ''response.should have_success_status''?

RSpec, RESTful nested routes and :path_prefix
Dear list,
In the app we are making we have a rout something like this:
map.resources :projects do |projects|
projects.resources :pages, :controller
=>"Wiki::Pages", :path_prefix => "/projects/:project_id/
wiki", :name_prefix => "project_wiki_"
end
But I can''t get RSpec(I''m very new to it) to accept this. It keeps
throwing errors:

testing authentication with basic_auth
hi, I''ve got an api which is using
authenticate_or_request_with_http_basic
What are you guys using to test this? I''m using rspec, and before I
was using rspec-rails, I was using authorize from Rack::Test to do the
authentication. However, authorize clearly doesn''t work when using
rspec-rails, so I''m wondering what everyone else is doing?

"No route matches" error?
I am new Rspec and just started by generating a new controller on
Rails 3. It generates some Rspec tests by default. I have a question
about how to make them pass though. As it stands, I see this test in
my terminal"

rails 1.2.1, locomotive and backgroundrb
Hi
I just tried to move my project to rails 1.2.1 on my locomotive
development setup. It seems that backgroundrb is not willing to start
up anymore. If I switch locomotive back to 1.1.6, everthing is fine.
This is the error I get while attempting to start backgroundrb:

Getting past my login system
Thank you in advance for your help. I am relatively new to both Rails
and Rspec and I am hoping for some insight from some experienced veterans.
Right now I am using Rspec for code that has already been written so
that additional functionality can be developed using the BDD method. My
problem shows up when I try to spec controllers that are behind the
login system. Each page checks for the

Hello,
I''m working with scaffold generated controller test code for handling GET

Company has_many addresses.
In my addresses_controller I have:

mandatory profiles?
I would like to setup a samba PDC with mandatory profiles for my school.
I know that I can easily use them for XP (centralized) and that for Win
98 I have to put them in the user accounts. Now my question: do I have
to put a profile in the user account each time a new user is made? Or is
there a simple way of doing this. (off course I would link it to one
profile, but this way I still have to

Story Runner, autoincrementing
I''ve written a story and I run into a snag.
I''ve written the create_forum method and told it to set the id to 1
but when it creates the forum the id is autoincremented.
My forums table is empty but the id keeps incrementing the newest record on
creation.
When I run the story it comes out as something like 59 which fails my story
because I''m asking it to look at /forums/1

Renaming RailsExample to RailsExampleGroup
Fyi, I made the following renames:
* RailsExample -> RailsExampleGroup
* FunctionalExample -> FunctionalExampleGroup
* ControllerExample -> ControllerExampleGroup
* ViewExample -> ViewExampleGroup
* HelperExample -> HelperExampleGroup
* ModelExample -> ModelExampleGroup
This was done to keep the naming consistent with ExampleGroup.

I looked everywhere but I can''t understand what I am doing wrong.
